Hiking Sentinel Peak | CapeTown | South Africa

An old smuggler’s path takes you to the summit of the peak that guards Hout Bay. Known once as Goranchouqua, meaning to be ‘drawn by the hand of God from the waters’, the Karbonkelberg massif rises spectacularly from the sea in the shape of a giant wave frozen in time. From here you may see dolphins, whales, seals and penguins in the bay below. BASE jumpers have been known to take off from its 331-metre high summit - but that’s illegal. From another angle across the bay, you can see the sleeping rhinoceros shape of these mountains. The rhino was an important animal in Khoi history and mythology. This walk can also be done at the full moon with enchanting sunset views of the bay and the southern peaks of Table Mountain. This hike offers fantastic and unique opportunities for the perfect Instagram shot. Don't forget to bring your phone or camera! Tips: • Sunscreen and hats on hot days • Wind jackets & rain gear on cold days • Bring your own water & snacks • Proper hiking boots • Cash for a tip if you like your guide :) Duration: 3 hours
