    In today’s video I am exploring this brand new and redesigned 2024 Hyundai Kona Limited to see if it is the best small SUV. Huge thanks to Gettel Hyundai of Lakewood for making this possible. You can shop their new and pre-owned inventory at www.gettelhyundaioflakewood.com/ or call 941-241-3627
    The vehicle tested was 2024 Hyundai Kona Limited FWD. It had no added options and a total MSRP of $32,985.00

    Currently driving my 2nd Kona (2019, 2022) and loving the new design. Both my Kona SUVs are/were the Limited model and I would get the Limited again. As I have a full year left of my lease, I'm looking forward to the 2025 Kona Limited, probably with AWD as the only upgrade. This time, I will wait and shop around for the best deal and the color I want. I leased my current Kona during the pandemic and had ONE Kona to choose from. Not this time! Only other consideration next year will be whether to even think about the Kona EV instead. But as a last resort, I will buy-out my lease and wait if the cars aren't available or priced right (take note dealers who add ridiculous markups)!

    • @MattTheCarguy

      Thanks for sharing! Smart move leasing as now you dont have to worry about being under water. Unless something changes in the near future, i think prices will come down. You can already negotiate a discount and cars are more readily available.

      @@MattTheCarguy I just watched your Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid video and am ready for a serious consideration of either Crossover in middle of 2024. Big differences will be the interior (Toyota is "cheap" plastic?) and which feels better (seats, driving, technology) during my test drives.

      @@Steve_in_NJ i think the interior of the new Kone is better quality than Corolla Cross but only on the higher trims. If you go for base Kona the plastic especially on the door panel feels "cheaper". Also as far as technology Kona has advantage over Toyota woth more advanced infotainment system and more standard features. If you opt in for the Corolla Cross Hybrid you will get better mpgs. Let me know your thoughts when you test drive them.

    The thing I don't get about the subcompact class... the turbo engine is rated 24 city / 29 highway. My turbo larger and tow rated compact class Rogue is rated 33 city / 37 highway. It seems you pay less for a subcompact up front, but actual cost of ownership is the same, and the compact is otherwise better in pretty much everyway from its subcompact counterpart. So unless a compact won't fit in your garage, go as big as you can fit.

    • @NCXDesigns
      @NCXDesigns 10 месяцев назад

      Subcompact combustion engine class, yes. The more compact an engine gets the more you're paying for repairs since the parts are more expensive. I don't miss owning a subcompact, they are the worst to own. Why I want the EV version of this. I love the design and it hits all the right notes for my needs.

    • @MattTheCarguy
      @MattTheCarguy  10 месяцев назад

      Depending on the year but now Rogue is powered up by the 1.5l 3 cyl engine and has a CVT transmission. It is a smaller displacement engine. Also CVT contributes to better gas mileage but takes away from the fun of driving. Kona even though on paper less powerful has much better pick up and is more resppnsive vs Rogue imo. But is get slightly worse gas mileage it is rated 29city/35 hgwy

    • @BoopSnoot
      @BoopSnoot 10 месяцев назад

      @@MattTheCarguy 35mpg would be perfectly acceptable! The Konda turbo is NOT rated 35mpg highway, that's for the anemic 2.0 liter engine with the CVT. Check the EPA site, the 2024 Kona AWD 1.6T with the 8-speed automatic is rated 24 city / 29 Highway and only 26mpg combined, a MASSIVE deficit over the more powerful and tow rated 37mpg highway and 33mpg combined 23 turbo Rogue like I said. If the Kona turbo did 35mpg highway, I would not open my mouth. ;)

    • @Matt2023
      @Matt2023 10 месяцев назад +1

      @BoopSnoot the Kona he was driving is FWD he said. That should improve the mileage slightly. The Rogue has better mileage but to get comparable amenities, you'd need to get the platinum, which is over $40k. I will say that I've seen this car fully loaded advertised for $35k so if you want to save a little up front and have more tech, real automatic, and cooled seats, the Kona is the way to go. If you need more space and want better fuel economy, go with the Rogue. The value of the Rogue greatly improves as you lower the trim as well.

    • @BoopSnoot
      @BoopSnoot 10 месяцев назад

      @@Matt2023 Not sure what amenities you're referring to, but if cooled seats are a must no trim has that in the Rogue but I would still shop in the compact class as they are better value than subcompact. For example, the Kia Sportage SX Prestige has cooled seats for $35K and does 25 city / 32 highway and is way roomier.

But unfortunately for most markets they removed the micro slot which is on the lower centre console. I am told due to so many markets having different privacy issues re cameras. A shame as I have the new Kona and really wanted that feature. I love the look of the '24 Kona and especially the specs of the 1.6T engine. What stymies me, however is WHY Hyundai has left out a plug-in hybrid (or even a mild hybrid) version of this car in North America, limiting selection only to either full ICE or full EV (the Kona-E). There is a hybrid version in Europe and Asia. In this segment, for the USA and Canada, one must revert to Kia's Niro, offered in both MHEV and PHEV versions, but simply, I don't care for the Niro, especially with those silly 'air blade' panels. Ironically, Hyundai offers a the Santa Fe, the Tuscon, etc. in ICE, MHEV and PHEV versions, but left out the Kona. I want a PHEV and this vehicle is a perfect candidate for the application.
