When doing socks for other people - the Chevyrell sock worksheet is PERFECTION. I’ve literally had people just tell me their size, I worked to the length in the worksheet and they come out perfect EVERY SINGLE TIME. Could not recommend more highly. (And yes they have the UK sizes included 35-43 women’s and 39-49 in men’s)
As far as the Zings - I think it’s the coating on them that’s causing that issue for you. If you just changed to normal metal needles, I think you’d be good (though I don’t have direct contact with your brain so 🤷🏽♀️) my straight needles have coating like that and it makes a noise working on it

Yeah I think it’s a coating thing as well as I can work just fine with my chiagoos, just seems to be the zings that have the issue for me.
