The scarp 1 is proving a popular tent, I’ve seen many RUclipsrs upgrade to this tent. It really should come with all the pegs & guy-lines, if your spending hundreds on it then makes sense to have everything you need so it’s ready to use. However, it does appear very robust & sturdy. Great review. Thanks x
Hi Rachel, yes a very robust and sturdy tent, I'm very happy with the scarp. Yep definitely a shame that you got to spend extra money. Silly really. Thanks for watching. Atb dai
Hey Dai, cheers for the shout out pal 🙏 the pole goes in much easier with one side pegged down but in reality when it's raining and slightly raining the inside gets wet, which is why I showed pitching the way I did, and probably why you did too pal 👍👍👍 I also wrap my centre pole and pegs with the main tent, and slide the X poles in the side pocket of my rucksack. Great minds think alike with the seam sealing service, 100% worth the money eh 👌 we agree on everything about this tent pal 👍 the tent is a palace as we both say, anyone looking for a decent ten should give this one serious consideration, catch you soon buddy, atb Paul 🙏🏕️🏕️🏕️😁
Totally agree, this tent should seriously be looked at by other, I am very happy with my purchase. I pitched it on a mountain the other day and very windy and had full confidence in the tent. I felt save and didn't worry. It was like a brick stuck to the ground. Thanks for the other tip wrapping poles with tent, I have now done that. Thanks for watching Paul and speak soon buddy
Nice review, The scarp 1 Is a free standing tent when used with the two cross poles. The hook is to hold the fly up when you want extra ventilation. There is a loop of elastic by the fly tensioner that clips in to that hook.
Ha yeah did not think of that with the cross over poles. This was more of a look at video rather than a review. But I'm learning from others comments. Thank you for commenting and watching. Atb dai
Great review mate. Interestingly, Henry Shires at Tarptent is adamant that the crosspoles are only needed for snow loading, irrespective of wind conditions. It would appear many UK hill campers believe otherwise! For my part, I have the carbon crossover poles on order, which will save a fair bit of weight (and also be more difficult to confuse with the main pole, a potential issue you identified!). Like you, I got this 2022 edition, and the weight of the supplied crosspoles increased from 340g to 439g purely because Tarptent wanted to standardise pole gauge across its range. Carbon will be 250g. I think you'll find that with crosspoles deployed, the Scarp is a freestanding tent - Tarptent certainly claim so! A tip if I may - to get the arch pole in more easily and minimise damaging the sleeve, don't stake out both ends of the tent. It's sufficient in most windy conditions to stake out just the windward end (in calm conditions don't stake at all). This is in accordance with Tarptent's instructions, as there should be minimal tension on the pole sleeve when performing this operation. Also remember to slacken off the internal tensioners and yes, it helps to unzip the doors a bit as well. That bungee at the end is for holding the vent open, but if you want to use it as an additional tie-out, then why not? I agree that this tent should come with more hardwear, but the Tarptent ethos seems to be to supply with the minimum needed for basic use and leave the rest for the owner to customise. So far I've used mine on one 3-nighter in the Lakes - it was excellent, but its weather resistance wasn't really tested because conditions were fairly benign. I'm pretty confident it'll hold its own though. Really liked the internal space, the ease of pitching, and having dual vestibules is wicked. Less impressed with the uber-slippery floor, a level pitch was vital for a comfy night. Even though the Scarp is heavier than what I've been using (Hexpeak V4A and Lanshan 1 Pro), I can see it becoming my go-to option in all but the fairest weather. I'd be very interested to see how you think it compares to your Soulo when you've had the time to get used to it.
Wow I think that's the longest comment I ever had 😂😂😂. Definitely some really good advice here, notes taken. I have been getting worried about that arch sleeve. My mates from twin peaks used their scarp twice and it has already torn pushing the pole through. You are very correct to get all that tention out before installing the pole. Ha I definitely think the over poles will make a big difference when it comes to wind aswell as snow. I mentioned its not free standing, my bad lol. I did realise afterwards though. I'm going to get some of that carpet grip stuff from b&m for my next outing as lately I havent found tidy flat areas, gonna give it a go. Nothing worse sliding to the corner of the tent. It's a great tent, nice and lightweight, loads of room and great quality besides that arch sleeve. Not sure if they used cheaper materials on 2022 version for the arch. The soulo is more robust and the quality is more on point not saying the scarp is not good quality. The hilleberg tents are in a league of their own. Best tents ever made for sure. But definitely over priced
@@Camp-N-Wilddragon Greetings from the US. I've has a Scarp since around 2008. Great tent! Suggestion to make inserting the pole through the sleeve easier - wax it. I use a good quality car wax. makes it much easier. GREAT idea loosening the tension as well. Good review.
Great video Dai, really can’t wait for them to come back in stock thanks for sharing, those clips I believe are so you can lift the bottom up and fix in place to help with wind flow in summer
Hi Craig, yeah hopefully they will be back in stock soon. Thanks for letting me know what the clip is for. It is a good idea and nice feature. Thanks for watching. Atb dai
Hi mate, I love mine, it's a good tent. There are mixed reviews but I haven't done the long term review yet. Only used it 3 times as of yet 👍thanks for watching
Hi butty, this has the solid inner because will definitely keep you warmer in winter and better if your in the mountains. I also ordered with the seam seal already done. 👍
hi mate.. I’m going to order this baby today after weeks of pondering. When you say you ordered it Seam sealed, have you ever had any water ingress afterwards? Thanks for your time
Hello from the US! Want to buy another tent?? Take a look at the new Tarptent Dipole DW 1. Lighter, uses your trekking poles for support. According to tarptemt, it is much more aerodynamic than the Scarp. I'll be getting one, but it will take a LOT to get me to give up my Scarp!v !!!
Hi mate, I've sold my scarp 1 now and just purchased the Stratospire 1 trekking pole tent. Tarp tent does make some really good tents don't they. Did you purchase the dipole dw 1 after?? Let me know how you got on with it if you did buy it. Thanks for watching and commenting
Hi Rachel, 😂😂 I used to own 8 tents, I have sold most to fund my new tents. I now own the hilleberg soulo, scarp 1, helm 2 and a marmot tent. I'm very happy with what I got now so can't see me making many more tent purchases 😂😂
Dai, your subscribers can't believe you bought another tent, you have more tents than gooutdoors 🤣 That being said it was a good review 👍 until your next adventure atb Taff 🤠👊
Biggest negative is getting an order fulfilled by the company. Quality is not all there as other reviews have shown. For me the Fjallraven Abisko lite 1 ticks all the boxes!
I heard they were out of stock, got mine with no issues thankfully. I've been through many tents and can almost say it's probably my favourite. The abisko is definitely a good tent aswell. Thanks for watching. Atb dai
Erm it is free standing and the clips at the side are to hold the doors up. Most people would study their purchase and know this before doing a so called "review". Is this theeeeee tent as well? 🤣

The last peg in center only use pole for that look at there setup document on their site is design for snow load

Great viddy mate does look the nuts very well thought out part from the lack of essential accessories! Huge inside result 👍

Hi Dai, looks like a nice tent for the ghost of the high places, i wisny even ere "Och Aye". Cheers Will.

Hopefully get back into it soon bud. Hope your well buddy
Nice. What tent did you order? Is this the solid and mesh inner, or just a solid?
Hi butty, this has the solid inner because will definitely keep you warmer in winter and better if your in the mountains. I also ordered with the seam seal already done. 👍
@@Camp-N-Wilddragon thanks mate. Just had a look, can’t justify the £164 import tax for it 🤯
@@Northern_Rockhopper they charged me £74 import tax. Its definitely a big decision.
hi mate.. I’m going to order this baby today after weeks of pondering. When you say you ordered it Seam sealed, have you ever had any water ingress afterwards?

The clip inside the door is for lifting the doors up from inside for more air flow.
Thanks butty, I did find out soon after. Great little feature. Thanks for watching and commenting. Much appreciated. Atb dai
I just bought one of these tents I’ll tell what,if you put on a set of tires it would look like a 1986 Ford Pinto
😂😂😂😂You got a point there lol
Out of curiosity, how many tents do you own? ☺️
Even he doesn’t know the answer to that lol 🤣🤣🤣

Man, not enough pegs.. no pullers.. no pole bag! Thats a bad start
No guylines and seam sealing as an extra pffft
That’s another reason the Soulo is theee tent
Want stability.. buy more poles lol
Says it all don't it 😂😂😂
Soulo is theee tent 👌
Doesn’t look aerodynamic in a big gale but spacious
Americans for ya a 😉 thanks for watching 👍

Review is click bait.if you listen and open your ears, I say at the end that I will give the real review in 2023 😂😂😂
It's good, but no way near as good as a hilleberg. I know! cause I own both 👍
