    I really love this video because it really shows the contrast with and without the cross poles, it convinced me to definitely get the poles, thanks!

    Looks sturdy with the additional crossing poles. I've got some for mine but not used them yet.

    Hi Dave, I really enjoyed this great video... Not just someones overnight camp (boring) but you made it much more interesting than that. Firstly you gave us a decent look at the Salewa jacket. I have had a number of Salewa pieces of kit and they are a great brand... Secondly you showed the increase in performance using the additional poles, awesome. I wonder why they are so far away from the tent body? Thirdly you got up off your ass and went out and checked the tent guy lines (most you tubers don't bother).. Fourth, you measured the wind speed to give real and accurate data (most you tubers claim much higher winds than they actually are). Lastly 46mph winds are pretty harsh and you took it all in your stride no probs at all and just got on with it. To me this detail lifts the level of your video above all but my own.... ha ha. Very well done, thank you and you will make 1000 subs in no time at all and well deserved too. ATB Tom

      Haha brilliant. Sadly and deservedly there are a whole raft of wild camping YTers including yourself that have the professionalism dialed in and are way above mine. But appreciate that you noticed my efforts to make it a little different. Just trying to entertain myself too. Thanks for taking the time Tom once more. Hope to see one of your camps soon.

    This has to be one of the best 'windy wildcamp' vids I've seen, you actually give us a true windspeed rather than a guesstimate. I just ordered a Scarp (they're back in stock now) and was in two minds about including the crosspoles. In the end I did, and having watched your excellent demonstration of the difference, I'm very glad I did!
    As for letting folks know where I've camped, with you all the way mate, I'd rather keep my own counsel. I tend to do roving 3 or 4-nighters so I just give the nearest and dearest a general indication of region and timescale, and if it's remote I carry a PLB.

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  3 года назад +1

      Hi David, I am convinced the vast majority exaggerate the wind speed massively. I even find myself measuring it and thinking, 'surely its more than this!' Yeah, the crossing poles ability is what makes the scarp stand out versatile. I am sure you will enjoy it. Let me know!

      @@Fellmandave1 Only the once thus far, and not in 'challenging' conditions. Watch this space...
      The crossing poles haven't yet been deployed. My Scarp arrived with the 'new' crossing poles, up to 436g from 340g unfortunately, so I have some lighter carbon ones coming.
      This Scarp is certainly a very different beast to the Hexpeak I've used over the last 6 years, which won't be seeing as much action now. My other recent 'find' is a 3F UL Lanshan 1 Pro, which I used in more settled conditions last year. £100 and 690g, it's a great fairweather option.

    Great video Dave, impressive jump in performance with those poles, 45mph is bloody breezy. I do like a midweek reset too. Tent Fish!

      Aye, thanks Andrew, getting there slowly with the subs. I learnt about the midweeker from you, left me a bit jaded for a bit though! Need to get fitter. All tents should have a tent fish, like a remora on a great white.

    Love a windy camp! I enjoy your videos and you’re right, sometimes it’s good to get out on a school night. I think I am of a mind to keep places I camp ‘secret’. One of the early camps I did I shared where I was and I just got grief for it, so I don’t feel the need to share anymore. To many armchair campers judging from the sidelines!

      Hi Josh, to share or not to share, that is the question. I think not, learning and discovering your spots is all part of the adventure. Sometimes there are no shortcuts.

    Nice one Dave. I walked up past those volcanic tors a few years back to do Hedgehope Hill and The Cheviot. Alas, I got hit with a torrential rainstorm on the summit of Hedgehope and was forced into a hurried abandonment 🙄. ATB, Chris

    Scarp 1 is a monster. Side by side with the Kuiu in my garden it felt weak in comparison but in the field it was superb and incredibly strong. Ref whether I tell anyone, my 11 year old daughter would kill me if I didn't check in but I ALWAYS camp alone. It's my quiet time 😊
    Oh and the karabiner along the crossing pole attachment looks fantastic.....how is it in real life usage?

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, I just felt the tape to slide the poles through on mine was far too stressed once you put the angle on. The alpkit krab just seemed to place them better and less stress. Great that your daughter cares for you so much. have great winter trips!

    I know this is a couple of years old and im looking into scarp1 ultra but connecting the pull-ups should go to trekking poles and not parallel to the fly sheet ☹️. Good example of failure with Tony nobles scarp 1 with crossing poles not connected correctly and trekking poles not connected . Quite important to follow the manufactures guidelines in pitching

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Steve, I am not sure what you mean by PULL UPS? Trekking poles are not a requirement by tarptent, but more of a way of solving a structural problem. Are you saying i had it pitched incorrectly? Cheers

    • @Treefrogging
      @Treefrogging 10 месяцев назад

      @@Fellmandave1 yes incorrectly pitched . The pull-up should not go straight to the ground . If the crossing poles are not connected to the top of the pitchloc, the corner bits then all the force is on the pull-up . The pull-up is only to stop inward deflection not exert extreme outward /upward force. I’m looking at scarp1 ultras and spoke to someone who knew design. You gave some excellent advice on backup survival using a bivouac in case of tent failure . Watching your video made my palms sweat seeing the pull-up connected wrong☹️

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  10 месяцев назад

      At 07:24 though does this not show the crossing pole being connected into the velcro at the top of the strut

    • @Treefrogging
      @Treefrogging 10 месяцев назад

      @@Fellmandave1yes sorry I don’t think I was clear enough . yes that is correct 👍 but I’m saying that if that connection is NOT made then the stress would go to the pull-up. having the crossing poles connected right but the pull connected wrong may start to cause a weakness in the material at the pull-up point, and this can be mistaken for a design fault . I’m looking at scarp 1 ultra and it would be of great benefit to the RUclips community for tenting to see the scarp 1 or ultra pitched with trekking poles correctly.
