    i know you declared your conflict of interest as an investor in microvision, but really, this is just a promo specifically for microvision which in actual comparison with other Lidars for ADAS, is not actually a front runner with anyone.

      I am an investor in multiple Lidar companies, but in Microvision I have the most. People would want to know which sensors have better specs than the Mavin DR sensor and I will HAPPILY show the proof if you can help me find it.
      I talked to people at the booths of each, and no one would make that claim and many don’t even post their specs.
      I want to make money; I don’t care who wins, I just want to make sure I back them.

    What worries me is it looks like MAVIN is not up to the spec they advertise. It's not running at 30 FPS, even in the live demo shown during the presentation. Each range seems to be updating individually every 3 frames of this video (which is 30 FPS), so it's actually running at 10 FPS.

    • @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE
      @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE  Год назад

      For one, this was being pushed out to a 20 foot wide screen; I doubt any of the demos in the show were running at their native speed. But two, it was for sure being displayed at higher than 10 frames per second and I shot at a mix between 120fps for the slow motion and 24fps for the real time footage.

    • @Handelo
      @Handelo Год назад +2

      @@SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE I don't know. If you go frame by frame at, say around 8:27, you see some pretty jarring ghosting and smearing in the output. I don't think your capture is at fault here, it actually looks like some sort of frame blending is happening on their side. And those are pre-recorded videos, not even the live demo. I do hope it's just a post processing issue of sorts, but considering the videos they put up on their channel share the same issues, I'm starting to worry their 30 FPS claim might be a 3 sensors times 10 FPS = 30 FPS, which is completely false.

    LOL lidar is not coming any time soon bro. I've been in tech for more than 20 years. Promises are easy, doing is not. And making it mass produced and affordable is really really hard.
    And how long has Microvision claimed it will have customers? Looong time. You aren't seeing sales this year, or next. And nobody is buying MVIS. Same promises, same results. Investors getting absolutely shunted.

    • @SPACEDESIGNWAREHOUSE

      This was the first time microvision has ever claimed they were going to have customers within a specific time period.
      I don’t understand how you could ‘be in tech for 20 years’ and think new stuff doesn’t come out. Perhaps you’ve heard of an iPhone. Or more recently, the HaloLens II, with microvision Lidar inside.
      Nevertheless, yes, Lidar is coming and quite soon. There will be 2024 model cars with it installed and MANY 2025 models will be using Lidar.
      I do hope you continue to follow the channel and the progress of this technology. Having such a firm belief against a sensor is an odd position.

I use these in my work, and they are pretty cool, but I'm hoping they come up with something higher resolution and frame rate, or that one of these startup's sensors actually manifests and is not just available for automotive. Considering the ouster sensors are up to 10k each, I find it hard to believe we will come out at a fraction of that for these new sensors.
