I dunno why but it really REALLY bothered me that he kept complaining about the ponies in the pic at 6:42 not being finished, failing to notice that it was a collab. They are unfinished on purpose, so that other people could put their OCs in.
@5:55 - in the artist's defense, there actually is a shirt like that. Normal and sleeved on one arm, off the shoulder and sleeveless on the other, supposed to be a stylish fashion. Sort of the fashion equivalent to a warrior outfit of a breastplate and shoulder guard plus bracer on the sword arm. There's still issues, such as all the ghosting around the edges making the lines around the edges look more like shadows and causing a bit of strain on the eyes, plus the shirt doesn't overlap properly with the pants nor does it seem to follow her torso naturally ... but the shirt itself is actually legit, just a strange choice for this picture.
6:47 it's collab, that's why they didn't erase these horns nor add hair. They left it like this for someone who would want to actually finish this with their own OCs.
I think this was unfair, I mean yes their art is bad, but they are not bad... as a person theh look nice to me, I can understand art thieves and stuff, but this user looked nice.
ITechnoKait 4005 I mean, their art can be bad but I feel sorry that they get treated like some kind of psycho... yeah I saw sooo much crap that this doesn't affect me anymore. :/
[TL/DR] I agree. I used to use bases all the time, but gradually grew out of it. I'll use some for references now a days but it's not often anymore. But I used to only post them on Wattpad (in fact it's still in my art book there but tbh I hate them now.) I completely understand using bases to help improve on clothing and colour theories. That's what it helped me with. Now I'm good at designing clothing but can't actually make any of the cosplays that I want to make.
This video is very cruel next video will be "How dare a kid use a coloring book ,get good at drawing or don't make art" Like F off , if somebody wants to use bases their whole life as long as they aren't stealing art that is their business and their right, they don't have to want to become a professional illustrator to be allowed to express themselves and do art. This video is just bulling somebody that likes to color bases that *they got freaking permission to draw*. How narcissistic and petty can you get telling people they can't express themselves artistically unless they learn how to draw? What authoritarian and shitty attitude to have about creative freedom and expression. Honestly I'm all for calling out art thieves but this innocent person that likes to color bases does not deserve a shitty video made about them. I unsubbed....I hope the person is at least not a minor they seem pure wholesome and innocent though
6:44 My dude, have you never heard of base collabs? It's where a person gets a group base and fills in one or more people. Then other deviants can join their collab by drawing their own oc into the base. The ponies aren't bald, they're just waiting to be filled in by other people.
@@aprioriontoast704 Yeah, but that doesn't take away that some people will do something that no one gave them permission to mess with and try to pass it off as their own creation
I’m glad someone agrees to the “bases can be used to help you learn” thing! I actually use bases sometimes, but nowadays I don’t even post them. Because I end up forgetting who made the base lol
New deviantArt user: How am I going to stand out and improve my skills Finds Pony Base New deviantArt user: I know I'll just use the bases, use the paint bucket tool and get really triggered when people say my art is shit
SylenDraws It's something to think about. Get the MLP community to like your 2 or 3 MLP works, then leave MLP, if the art is good you'll have many watchers that will get you more attention for your real work.
Some of the digital pictures were actually drawn by hand first. Like Elizabeth's reference and a picture between Laughing Jack and one of my Creepypasta OCs, the Shadow Ghost. And my gore picture titled, "I got a head start."
the sleeve on that one eg is on purpose and the image of the group of mlp characters is a collabration (the spare ones aren't finished im guessing?) PF anyway nice video ;o;
6:45 thats a collab, its where somebody puts their Oc(s) in one/some of the base ponies (i dont know what to call them) and posts it so other people can put their Oc(s) in the picture too; and about those "phantom horns", its so the person who wants to join the collab can remove the horn if their Oc doesnt have it
When I was a beginner artist, I didn't have any access to a drawing tablet or art software. I looked up the base I wanted on Google and drew it on paper, adding what I wanted to it. Does that count as using bases in a bad way?
Cyber, cyber... I love your bad DA videos, but this.. she's just using bases, she's not stealing art and she's crediting the bases, this isn't criticism, this is cringe culture, and that makes artists not want to continue art, especially if they're young.
IKR this video is really shitty and condescending "How dare you enjoy using a color book instead of getting good" Like some people like doing at without plans to be illustrators? Get over it and stop being authoritarian.
Even when I was a preteen just starting out with digital art, I don't ever remember using bases. I've always freehanded my art. Sure the lines were sloppy and shaky (and sometimes still are XD) but at least I tried to be original. Freehanding all my life is probably the reason I improve my styles so quick. Personally I don't see a problem with bases so long as they're used for practice.
The shirt, which was missing a sleeve was kind of fashion thing some time ago. It's not as popular anymore. But who knows if that person had that on mind.
7:43 Ok ok, deviantcringe, shes hosting a mlp COLLAB. Since its a collab, the people who want to collab with her will draw hair on the bald ponies and erase the horns or keep em if they want..
Actually, the reason why the ponies are naked and have phantom horns is because it's a base collab like it said in the art title. A base collab is where one person used a base and left out blanks of the character(s) for others to use.
Bases are okay to use. They help you get accustomed to proportions, help you practice hair, and looking at different bases help you with poses and proportions, but you also have to draw without bases from time to time.
DeviantCringe, please for the love of god, google the word COLLAB. The reason the ponies were unfinished is because someone else is to save the picture and draw their own ponies in it, and the horns are from the base. The transparency makes them easily erasible.
real quick :\ I don't think this user should have an entire video made on her. her art isn't horrible and at least she KNOWS how to use a base. I wouldn't call her cringe just base dependant. it's a don't call out one of them specifically kind of thing with me I guess
Mary Smith, I completely agree with your comment. And she mentioned, at the beginning of the video, that she had problems drawing humans so she's using bases to display what her characters look like, not to boast about how amazing her art is. There's a difference between boasting about how good your art is and claiming the bases to be your own work, and using them to show what your characters look like and to show everyone your interests. Doing a "Cringe", "Rant" video to try and call this poor girl out is just horrible. Just because you may not have used bases to start drawing, doesn't mean you have to get annoyed and "rant" about it. This is just a video where the RUclipsr is looking for content and picks on young artists. Everyone has to start somewhere and this is how she wants to display her passion towards her characters, then that's great! I defend this user like many others who understand!
Well, bases can help in some cases. When I was just starting out, I used bases alot until I decided to move on. It really depends on how dependent you are on them.
Maybe I know why that little gurl didnt add anything on that ponies. Just bc on that ponies there it were some popcorns and she was too lazy to remove them. Sorry fir the bad english i am 🍕 italian 🍕
When i was starting as an artist, I always traced a base and drew a character over it. Now i just look up different position and lightly refrance them. As long as youre improving, It doesnt matter where u start
I`ll sorta bash DACringe here for one thing. The collab piece. He didn't even read the title which sort of explained why some of those ponies weren't fully drawn. Like I`ve done collabs with other people before and that's normal. It's because the artist is leaving room for either a selected or random partner.
She doesn't seem to be harassing anyone, so what's the point? The only thing you seem to ranting on is her use of bases which she isnt even claiming as hers
Giving "constructive criticism" doesn't mean bash the characters names and insult how poor the art is. (bases and coloring In this case) if he was giving "Constructive" criticism he should have mentioned how to FIX or HELP the creator make their characters better, maybe something like "maybe next time you shouldn't use such a bright color palette, maybe go for something more natural." Instead of "Woah look at that pony, it looks like a Cow."
I use bases only to see how to position a certain stance for my characters I draw because I am normally not the best at making the stances for my characters/OC's. And my art is fairly decent :3 (Btw the art in my icon is fairly old, I will soon update it)
Thanks for the amazing video DC! My only wish for this video was that you had looked at some of her Yu Gi Oh "fanarts" considering that her very user name stays that she is a fan of the YGO anime. But I guess that the art that you did reviewed were horrible enough even without her masterpieces of YGO fanarts. But aside of that, as a big YGO fan by myself I had looked at her fanarts, and as expected they were completely and utterly terrible. Huge OC dumps with terrible designs, eye bleeding colors that even the canon characters of the show would had called trying way too much, and bases, bases everywhere! Oh, and there were a few recolors too, that were, of course, absolutely impossible to notice that they are recolors. And now, as a big YGo fan by myself, I'm ashamed for my entire fandom that it has fans like this Deviantart artist. The YGO fandom deserve to have far better artists in it that this particular fan.
So my friend on DA sent me the link to her, and she seems to have gotten better! She still uses bases, but it looks a lot better, and her attitude has really improved!
Oh, God, I died inside when I saw that last one. Because my main OC/online persona is named Nightingale. Granted, my Nightingale is a griffin, and not a... weird anime horse thing? But still, I don't think I'll ever be able to look at her without thinking of that picture. The blood didn't even look like blood... and the artist said they got attacked by wolves? Those look more like wildcat or bear claw marks.
i saw the favorites section with a guy with dark hair (a mullet) and my dumb ass is like "hey it's dima bilan" but i see him holding some smol guy in red and blue and i'm like "i'm a fucking idiot that's tony and its one of THOSE drawings too..."
Oof- Not to bash you on this, but the one with the "phantom horned" baldy ponies is a collaboration, meaning someone could edit those ponies, making them look like a canon character or an OC in order to collaborate with YugiohFangirl2 (If someone actually wanted to...). I'm not sure if someone already mentioned it, but I'm just putting it out there in the nicest way possible.
I used to trace in beginner years, I of course have stopped. Let me remind you that I did not share it on the internet and rarely in rl. During that time of being a tracer and a baser I developed my own art style and Oc.
I had to cut some parts out to not make the video too long!

the "uncolored" one is a collab thing, like "Add your characters in" deal. Also the one sleeve shirt is an actual kind of shirt.

A base collab is where one person used a base and left out blanks
of the character(s) for others to use.

I feel like DeviantArt has gone so far that now it has no redemption.

Oof-
Not to bash you on this, but the one with the "phantom horned" baldy ponies is a collaboration, meaning someone could edit those ponies, making them look like a canon character or an OC in order to collaborate with YugiohFangirl2 (If someone actually wanted to...).
I'm not sure if someone already mentioned it, but I'm just putting it out there in the nicest way possible.
the best part of waking up is devcringe in your cup
5:45 it's an actual fashion style lmao
*A collab means other people can join so they keep them bald and with horns and wings-*
It's all about the base, 'bout the bace, 'bout the bace.
I used to trace in beginner years, I of course have stopped. Let me remind you that I did not share it on the internet and rarely in rl. During that time of being a tracer and a baser I developed my own art style and Oc.
Can you do attack on Titan cringe? I haven't seen anyone do it yet
