This somg should have been officially recorded and released by BOTH artists. The world wasn't ready for this piece of jazz_R&B perfection during the disco era. Stevie's more raw recording is a better reflection of the lush jazzy orchestration of the song, but the pure beauty and innocence that MJ sang it with has imprints of Jazz_Pop_R&B_Adult Contemporary all over it. This song was literally decades ahead of its time
i know! i love both versions. apparently, it was originally made for Songs in The Key of Life, but it ended never getting on the album, along with other songs. so, i'm pretty sure Stevie just takes songs that never got on his albums or were never hits and gives them to other artists lol.
*Eastside Low Bottoms sh*t !* _Tappin' in from South Central LA_ LOVE THISSSS ! Listening to Mike's version right after he transitioned nearly brought me to tears. Rest easy MJ 🙏🏾 You were, are and will always be the King of Pop.
This is why i refuse to listen to this new generation of music..folks that were born in the 50s 60s 70s were fortunate to have real music..singers and producers back then raised the bar so high that its hard to listen todays music..wheres my 70s babies??? Lol
I agree with you. there's such a huge difference in actually putting time and feel into music rather than the copy and paste stuff we got going on now.
Not really born in the 70's (2000's baby here) but I listen to a lot of the older songs more then the modern only because the old ones felt like it had more passion and soul.
Love Stevie Wonder version and Michael Jackson version of I can't help it. This was originally supposed to be on Stevie Wonder's songs in the key of life album, but it didn't make it into the album and he ultimately gave the song to Michael jackson. When it comes to Michael Jackson's I can't help it, Stevie Wonder was credited as one of the writers of the song and Stevie was also playing the keyboard. If you check out Michael Jackson's original demo of I can't help it, you can literally hear Stevie Wonder in the background.
I heard this was supposed to be on Hotter than July... If this had replaced I Ain't Gonna Stand for It, HTJ would be my all-time favorite album. Still a top-5 album for me though
What?! To each his own but the HTJ was a classic on its own merit, with "stand for it" being one of Stevie's greatest works. The song SHOULD have been officially recorded and released by BOTH artists
Whatever happened to the comment from a woman was there as this was recorded? I believe she said that they had him on as a guest for a radio show and that's why there's the station shout out.
@@redhouaneboulechbak8316 probably Nathan and Stevie, you can hear the bassline being played on the Rhodes and then the bass guitar starts shortly afterwards
R.I.P. MICHAEL AND KEEP LIVING STEVIE
Could listen to this song all day.He or Michael.🔥🔥💯
I hear you man andredeon600! I'm almost 60 yrs old and I've been listening to this song almost daily since 1978!! A GREAT song never dies my brother!!

there is good music in this generation, you just have to search deeper, its not mainstream anymore
Try Hiatus Kayiote, Tom Misch, Thundercat, Alice Phoebe Lou, Steve Lacy

Never knew that Stevie wrote this. I love MJ’s version. ❤❤❤❤
I'm surprised that Stevie and Susaye Greene didn't cover this song following Michael Jackson's initial release.
Much Gratitude

@@romebrown awesome, thanks for info. I was worried that a part of music history was gone!
Have mercy!
wow 😯 who’s the bass player?
probably Nathan Watts or Stevie himself (since it sounds like a bassline played on keys)

Yo...I mean...damn!!
So Stevie wrote it...
@@scrap4777 he didn't lol, stevie shower the song to michael and he loved it, then stevie told him that the song was a gift
Stevie has lyricist and composer credits; so….
He wrote it for Michael
