@@xxx0ox0 and half the time the journeymen are stuck helping the apprentices do their job and as annoying as it is we all know it’s more the companies fault and not necessarily the apprentices.

    • @tiagodecastro2929

It's also a question of how much apprentices care. My company has some apprentices who pick up quickly and get good at the job, and others who are close to applying for license exams despite still being basically day 1 apprentices in reality. As far as my apprenticeship, I basically just got "I'll show you this once, don't screw it up or I'm kicking you off the job," and boy did it work lol

Truest vid on YT. Load the generator in the truck when it's dark in the AM. Roll out by the time the sun comes up. If the roach coach dosen't show up you starve all day. Roll up before you can't see you hand in front of your face. Stop for 18 hot wings a half pound of curly fries an 2 personal pitchers of beer on the way home. Once home start the laundry for work the next day. Some liquor shots of choice in the shower. Wake up in 5 hours, or 4 hours and 45 mins if you gotta get gas so you're not late. Saturdays are mandatory. You think you're making money, but it all goes to bills and the only reason you have any "extra cash" is you do nothing and have no time to spend money. If you sleep in on Sunday, you gotta be in bed in 12 hours. The American Dream. Only vacation you get is quitting and hoping you find a new gig before you loose everything. Suppose you could always work at a grocery store on sunday for some more "extra cash" Unreal.

The old equipment reminds me of some of the machines we use at work. We've got a thirty year old machine where the lettering for the functions of the various switches and buttons have long since worn off and every 6 months or so they have to go back and write in sharpie what they do for new hires so they don't fuck anything up. Could they just install a new operator panel for the machine? Of course. Do they? Of course not.

I just started this and it is so relatable. I did my best at work, worked for them for 2 years, and I still got fired all because I wanted to go into EMS instead of continuing to work in construction. They didn't even wait for me to finish school, which was crappy. I am working in EMS now and am planning to go to fire next and I can say this life is so much better than being a carpenter.
Edit: This video is so accurate it hurts. Construction/trades is an extremely important career field but dang does everybody that work in trades get treated like crap. It could be worse tho, it was better than my time in the Army, sometimes.
