The Power of Poop: Fecal Transplants

  • If the idea of fecal transplants seems momentarily disquieting, consider that they achieve a 90 percent cure rate for the devastating intestinal infection known as C. diff when antibiotics fail to clear it. Fecal transplants are also being studied as treatment for colitis, Crohn’s disease, and other inflammatory gastrointestinal disorders, and research into their value for urinary tract infections and even Parkinson’s disease is underway. By transferring stool in sterile conditions from a donor to the intestines of someone who is ailing, fecal transplants are designed to introduce a healthy mix of gut bacteria into the body and restore bacterial balance. What’s that good for?

Great talk. There are a lot of things I wish here easier in Western medicine, as the 2nd to last lady was attempting to relay in essence. I'm like her too. I've done everything and doctors don't know what to do with me for my gut issues. I'd sign off on an fmt in an instant absolving them of any liability but people don't have choices like that they can make. Instead you have to convince your standard dr. most of the time about darn near anything remotely outside of what they learned X number of years ago in med school... People should be able to choose more of what care they receive and not have to do so much convincing. People like her and I will die before we get stem cells or fmt or other things that might help us.

FYI: The two patients that died were apparently exposed to the same donor who had a strain of E. Coli that produced certain products that were not beneficial to the patients. Tests have been updated to now look for this kind of E. Coli. What is interesting to note is how the donor was apparently fine despite the problematic E. Coli strain.

With off-shore labs having such positive results, the point of "profit" has caused a lot of unnecessary delay and misery for treatable conditions for FMT. Hopefully, Sabine Hazan will make strides in her clinical studies.

Currently, where can I get a fecal transplant non-CDdif or autism related in the USA or any where else on the planet? The Newbery Clinic in Argentina appears to be closed. Can anyone please advise - much appreciated.
