  • The first Earth Day was in 1970. What's one of the biggest changes our planet has seen since then? Earth's population has grown by 4 billion people! We produce more than enough to feed everyone, but food is not distributed evenly. Shockingly, one-third of the food produced is lost or wasted. And that means so are the resources used to produce it, which add greenhouse gas emissions. Find out how you can be part of the solution.

My school works with a few local farms and gives our food waste to them to reuse as animal feed or compost.

If we have too many leftovers, we feed a poor neighbor. We compost any waste. We shop very carefully. And if we have food left over eating out, we bring it home.

Sadly, the hungry can be your neighbors and you'll never know it (or want to know it). And many obese can only afford calorie heavy foods that add fat but not much nutrition so they are dying of hunger while becoming fatter. It's time to wake up and take care of all of us and the world.

Considering I worked an overnight shift and got out this monday morning @ 7A.M April-22-2019
I slept all the way until 10PM as its my first of a couple days off.
Ive successfully evaded showering electronics, running the sink, or polluting for an entire Earth Day. What did you do to eliminate consumption today?

I 'eliminated consumption' the way I always do. Reading a good magazine, then wiping my tuchus thoroughly.

jx592 everyday, a T. rex goes hungry because the authorities refused to let us into a school to snack on the unsuspecting. Don’t let this keep happening, for just 1 dollar a day you can stop T. rex malnourishment.

people are celebrating this earth day but only as a fad. what have you done to the planet? did you bought electric cars? did you chose to use low wattage computers to play your games? do you fund green/blue energy products? don't just love to sound "politically correct". your decisions in your lives did not reflect your orientation towards earth.

July 2019 Who ever made this video seems to be 'preaching to the choir.' This video is not going to convince new people to celebrate Earth Day. Pizza is not the enemy!!! The cardboard box leaves much less trash in the street, parks etc., compared to the layers of packaging (with toxic lining, probably nanotechnology) from McDonalds, Jack n' the Box, Wendy's, Taco Bell, etc. Cans of Arizona tea are probably easier to recycle (and healthier to drink) than the billions of plastic lined (nanotechnology?) cups with plastic lids and plastic straws dropped everywhere, every hour, around the clock! Gourmet quality pizza and morning rolls (fruit inside a 'croissant' pastry)...It is the opposite! When students complain about being hungry after lunch because it is too much salad and not enough of anything else - you are sending an awful message about caring about nature. Put the salad on top of the gourmet quality pizza!!! Put the fruit inside the long, gourmet dough, breakfast roll!!! K-12 children and teens are rapidly growing, and most (especially those involved in sports) will burn off the calories rapidly. Every K-12 school (both public and private) should have a program called NEAT! (with the exclamation to promote enthusiasm!) Nature Entertainment Art Time! Every class hour should set aside five minutes to try to connect some aspect of the lesson into some aspect in nature. All students should be allowed, even ENCOURAGED! to doodle constantly as this will help keep them awake, keep them from dropping out (thousands drop out every day, and end up getting into expensive trouble). The above video was very...ugly...to look at, without any connection at all to nature. Every teacher could ask their class at the end of every hour, does anyone want to show a sketch on the topic we have been focusing on the last hour? No one should be forced to do this. After the students have shown their sketches, the teacher should be prepared with at least one book of photos of photos, drawings, paintings, sculptures, etc. involving the topic just discussed! This will help students gain interest in using their local library and getting involved in a book club. Every student should be taught how to use his or her local library (and encouraged to become a librarian); and how to form their own book club in a room at their local library! This could save money by helping to keep children, teens, out of trouble by forming healthy reading habits for their entire lives! This could be less patriarchal, authoritarian, boring and more democratic, creative, INTERESTING! as described in the book, 'The One World School House', by Khan. He was an MIT graduate and tested out this book in Los Altos, near Google Headquarters in Mountain View, California. Every K-12 teacher should read this book and try to use at least one idea every day! Every student should be allowed to read every book out loud, from cover to cover, on You Tube! This would quickly improve the quality of life for every person on earth! End the law of 'only four pages are allowed to be read out loud in public'! This is why tons of quality books and magazines end up in the garbage landfill every hour, all over the world, especially in America!
