    Update for those watching. I keep getting questions on what you should do if you don't own a S series Panasonic. Still try and download this software and follow the instructions! It's still possible that it could repair the damaged file. Good luck!

      It works. It's in the details of this tutoriaI. My GH5 gave me a 90GB mdt file of a 1:20 hrs recording - and the magic happened. After more or less 1:20 hrs rendering along a perfect file from the same session all data were back and perfect.

      After shooting one of the files is mdt now. But I have a GH5 But when you have to fill in the model and the 11-digit alpha-numeric code what do I need to fill in? Because It's asking for a S model.
      I'm really stressing caus the deadline is tomorrow.
      I hope you can help.

      Thank you for sharing! Worked perfectly with a 60 GB 4K .mdt file from my GH5 camera. The only odd thing I encountered was that when trying to open files using the "..." buttons the software crashed. But when I dragged and dropped the file onto the repair tool it worked flawlessly! Panasonic really should make this software more easily downloadable, especially for owners of their other cameras too.

    Hi folks. I recovered a .MDT file that was almost 30GB, and nearly one hour in length. It was really important wedding footage so was super worried I had a disaster on my hands. Long story short, I downloaded the Grau Video Repair Tool, and paid £30 for it. It worked. You must change the .MDT extension to .MP4 and tweek another option or two but it worked for me, thank god. You can try it for free and save 50% of your video before going to pay for the full version. Thanks a mill for this video. Sooo helpful.

    I can highly recommend to use every detail of this tutorial, it took me a while to realise the point, but then it saved me from eternal embarrassement, as I discovered that my recording of a 1:20 hour dance show on my GH5 came out as my first mdt file ever, 90 GB sized. With Dustin's help and a close look how he deals with the original Lumix Sotware (PC only) I could recover the whole file in perfect video and audio quality without buying a S-Series Camera. Don't lose your patience while the software is working, the progress line was moving forward very slow and the software just stopped in the middle of rendering to inform me that the repair-file is finished. Three days leater I'm still unsure if it's real, that this lost video was resurrected. Thanks. Referring the reason for the mdt file I can only suspect, that it was the non orignial DC-Constant Power adapter I used. Recording was stopped properly, Camera shut off after waiting a while, SD card stayed in. Another crucial Detaill is on top that you have to use a working video file with the exact same session/file preferences. So do never hesitate to save a few testshootings to your card, to ensure you can repair afterwards.

  • @SaugusDispatch
    @SaugusDispatch Год назад +1

    Thanks for the tip, I realized that the camera was powered off too quickly. Once the SD card was put back in and the camera turned back on, it prompted me to fix the conversion and it worked perfectly. Well done, thank you.

    Thank you Bro for breaking this down perfectly! I've been recording with my S5 and S1 for several years now and haven't experienced this issue. Just did my biggest shoot to date and had this happen on the most important clip of the event 😖. I had a fully charged Lumix battery, didn't turn my camera off, and didn't take out my memory card. BTW, I use Lexar Professional V60 cards and like I said, never had any issue with my cameras writing to them. However this was my first time recording in 4k60p for an extended period. Maybe that was the culprit 🤷🏿‍♂️. Either way, I followed your instructions and was able to successfully repair the file! Thanks again.

    Thanx for this! I've been shooting on the S5 for a little over a year, and my trusty GH5 for nearly 5 years now. I've had a couple issues with the dreaded MDT files on the S5, and tonight it happened on my GH5 in the middle of a multi-camera shoot of a dance recital. I'm sure you know the feeling of terror when you realize that the last 20 minutes you've been shooting may be gone! 😵So I referred again to your instructions on this video, & voila! Just filmed a wedding yesterday. A 27 minute A cam ceremony file turned into a .MDT file 😢
    I watched your video but unfortunately because I had used 10 bit 4k 60 .mp4 with AAC audio the panasonic repair tool did not work. "Doesn't support AAC was the message".
    For anyone wondering how to deal with that issue then I have GREAT news. There's a program called Untrunk_x64. It recovered my 27 minute video with only one dropped frame.
    Panasonic really needs to step up their game with their .mdt file repair software. If MDT files are a known issue, Panasonic should offer a more user friendly robust software to recover said files. I basically had a panic attack and left the wedding early to work on recovery. Thank GOD for Untrunk_x64. It recovered the file AAC or not!

    Thank you for the video Dustin. This is a pretty unacceptable thing that seems to keep plaguing Panasonic for sometimes seemingly no good reason (I use fast expensive cards and OEM batteries). The poor repair tool seemed to always crash every time I tried to repair a file and I didnt realize you have to drag a correct mov file and the mdt file to the fields instead of clicking the folder search. Also not even compatible with mac. Just unbelievable on Pana's part. Along with the S5 rolling shutter and forced 60p crop (even in 8bit) I'm kind of over this camera. Not even sure I will be trusting this for an A-cam on a wedding shoot, instead using my GH5 classic. Panasonic I love your stuff, please fix these things. Super helpful as always Dustin

    Had this problem come up during an event I was recording last night on my new GH5M2. Was able to use the info in this video to download the tool, and it worked perfectly to recover a 42-minute video. While I did have 3 other camera recording the event, this was my A camera. Panasonic really needs to make this tool available for their other lines besides just the S-line. I have been thinking of upgrading my memory cards, even though they've worked well for everything in the past. Probably should just go ahead and do it to eliminate that possibility in the future.

    • @alantuttphotography
      @alantuttphotography 2 года назад +1

      Just thought I should come back and let future comment readers know that the recover process didn't work "perfectly" in my case. For some reason, the footage from this file came out shorter than normal, and I had to jump through a few hoops to keep this footing in sync with footage from other cameras. As near as I can tell, it looks like we lost about 25 frames from the 42-minute clip. Perfectly usable, but not "perfect". Resolve's retime feature helped a lot, as did the slip tool for individual shots cut from the multicam clip. On a different, but related note, this was my first multi-cam project with Resolve, and it worked much better than Vegas, which is what I switched from. Being able to re-sync source clips after multicam cutting is a godsend!

    Got slammed with MDT files on my S1H last year. Over and over again with write failures. Panasonic supporttold me my Sony Tough cards were to blame. I didn't believe them but when I contacted Sony?...YES! All four of my 256, V60, first-generation Sony Tough cards were RECALLED! Evidentally, there is a memory controller chip that Sony was using that was defective. Sure enough, Sony replaced all four of my cards for free with their second-generation cards and I never saw another corrupt file again. I was also told that other SD card companies are using the same defective controller chip in their cards too but that other SD card companies are not doing recalls the way they should. I'm told this defective controller chip is (or has been) used in many different brands of SD cards. Sony is now putting an "*" in front of all their second-gen card serial numbers that do NOT use that bad controller chip anymore.

    I just, if you know. Will the s1H, always tell, with a warning, onthe time of recording, that the files is broken ?If so, its no big deal but.....starting amovie, I have to konw every detail about this.
    I just was thinking. If I record, and then start tehe record button very quick , for the next shoot, woulden that also be short of time, so to say. If the files need somtimes 5-10 sec. probably its best to wait, just some seconds, before pressing the record ?

Or is ti jsut a salespoint ? ...well I dotn have 3 years of study, to find out. But, What about the 24-70 Lumix lense, will it suck power on A. F ? will a XLR take musc power. I mean if its imprtant, then Panasoinc sould advice us NOT to stress the battery ( at leasast for 4k, 422, .MOV shooting ) and, is there any reseach, from Pana, that say maybe 4kUHD, not the DCI ? I hope for more precise information here .

      It states clearly on the Panasonic web site on the utility download page, that this only works for MOV and MP4 files recorded with LPCM audio. MP4 recorded with AAC audio is not compatible with the utility, nor is AVCHD recorded video. That is why you got the error message. Based on this, I will be reviewing recording formats that I use on my GH5. Knock wood, but I have yet to have a file that was not recovered in camera directly, and never had an mdt file to contend with and I've had GH5 cameras now since around 2018. It's probably not a matter of if, but when... eventually.

    Is there an L-Mont camera that has as good AF as Sony or Canon?
    I do not want to leave the L-Mount universe (I am already invested), but I need a B-camera L-Mount with excellent AF capabilities for certain events like using a gimbal.

      @@DustinArmstrongPro Then which camera and lens out of the L-Mount Universe would you recommend that is great AF, light weight, not expensive, in order to use with a Zhiyun weebil s?

      I mean as far as AF, using native Panasonic lenses are best. I like the 1.8 lenses. Small light and look great but they aren't all out yet

    Am from Singapore. Had same issue with my S1H 1-2yrs ago. No indication that video file was corrupted. Only when back in studio that i realised. Files corrupted on both my SD cards. There was no information on the issue on the net. Happened a few times. Finally, it came to faulty Sony Tough SD cards.. Went to Sony and exchanged a total of 11 Sony Tough SD cards... Since then, no issue at all. There was a recall on many Sony Tough cards.

      Yeah those old Sony Tough cards gave me problems as well. I returned them immediately and stuck with my cards. Glad they fixed it

      @@DustinArmstrongPro since then... i always mount the Atomos Ninja 5 on the S1H and set it to record as a 3rd backup just in case both SD cards ever fail again... once bitten twice shy... Had managed to 'repair' those corrupted files using some paid 3rd party software. Got back 90+% or so but the footages are largely unusable. Pretty jerky and look as if playing in 12-15fps..

      @@DustinArmstrongPro didnt know abt that tool then. This happened May 2020. Not sure if the tool existed then.
      Was an interview with some Minister; over 20min of video in total. S1H was main cam. 2nd cam was GH5s. Somehow that day, i setup a 3rd cam, GH5 for no reason. And I managed to pull audio from S1H and use most of the footages from the GHs.

      I don't think it did either, but you might be able to recover those files now that it exists.
      I forgot to mention, love having the support from Singapore 🙏. Really appreciate you being here
