The unlimited recording is a must if you want to film concerts or longer interviews. The fan also is a must for longer shoots. The S1H is weather sealed and shoots 5.9k internally. I just shot a feature, 30 day shoot, on the S5 into the Ninja. The image is pure poetry, 5.9k all day long, I never had to think about the camera once. But here is my point: I might move up to the S5IIX for just one reason: "redundancy." I shoot indi, I need to travel light and fast to keep the costs down. That said I would never shoot without a monitor, but if the Ninja takes a crap, I have a decent internal codec I can shoot in the S5IIX as back up. Same for the enhanced IBIS, if the Ronan takes a crap. Having back up redundancy is worth paying for.
I still have my S1H and do use it a lot but I recently purchased a Sony A7IV as the AF and photo capabilities is what I needed in a single camera. Sony is great quality and fantastic AF, but the S1H does have a lot more pro features and when I need the S1H features I'll still use it. Great to see you back and good luck on the YT creator front!
I'm most likely buying an S5 because its basically the quality of an S1H (without all the amazing functionality of the S1H or GH6). But I think there will be a successor within a year or 18 months. So the S5 is basically a place holder to snap up that successor that will probably be incredible.
That's a lot how I feel and it really is very similar to the S1H. The S1H is just more for professional productions and/or film productions. The S5 will become my B cam more likely when the next camera comes out

Had an s5, was wanting a b cam, got an s1. Loved the s1 over the s5 so I sold the s5. Then I wanted a c cam for weddings and got an s5. Buddy was wanting an s5 and had an s1h so we traded with cash and that’s how I ended up with my s1h. Love it! Recently got a Bs1h and for interviews it’s a killer setup and once both cams are rigged up clients always compliment the cameras. Good luck with YT man!
I too have a s1 and s5 I feel the same I like the s1 a bit more but I usually take my s5 out with my just cuz the size Bd "weight" and I'll usually use it on a gimbal and what not. The s1h Def was intriguing but I felt like the s1 was pretty good and so close to the s1h. Gonna ve waiting on the new cams from panasonic coming out next year
@@ShellyBHollis it’s definitely a great hybrid camera! Coming from Sony last year to me the s1 is like the a7iii where it does both video and photo very well. Since my business solely focuses on video 95% of the time, the s1h and Bs1h were good upgrades from the s1. To me, if I were a gimbal guy, the s5 would be the move but since I shoot handheld I’d pick the s1 over the s5.
I’m currently going between buying a used s1h for $2,000 or waiting for the s5iix to come out and buying it new for $2,200. What do you think is the better option?

Funny enough, I've been running & gunning with two S1H's and run multicam productions with six S5's and I've been waiting for the drop of the new S5 mark ii so i can pick up two more S5's for my multicam productions. I love my S1H's to no end, but... I most likely will jump to the Mark II of the S1H if and when that ever drops. I don't blame you for dropping the S1H for the S5. They're lighter, and come with many of the same features as the S1H but at a much lower price point
I had an S5 for my outdoor content. Lumix has to have my favorite image of all time, but i needed more reliable AF for my vlogs, so i got a fx30. but once i have the money, i’m literally buying an S1H 😭😂
I get you, I have an S5 with the Sigma 28-70 f2.8 (amazing lens btw) and the 50mm f1.8. I love my S5 apart from one feature, and every time I use it I get a little grumpier…. That’s the side hinged rear LCD screen. I much prefer the tilt screen as I never film myself and for general filmmaking the tilt screen is way better. I’m hoping when the next iteration on the S5 appears it has the same screen as the GH6/S1H.
Great video! Been following you for a while. Ah man, I’ve been thinking of the same thing with my S1H! I work for a commercial agency so I need timecode/over 30 mins 10-bit but 40% of the time it’s on a Ronin-S gimbal and it struggles. I think it’s too late for me to downgrade to an S5 with it most likely being at the end of its life cycle going into 2023. I’ll play the waiting game until the next S camera is announced!
It's my new thing. I think it looks kind of cool and more interesting than just punching in every time. I'm just stabilizing the motion of the clip by the movement of my eyes. You do it through after effects
The S5 corps 1.5x in 4K 60p, but lower framerates like 24p are in full sensor width. Micro Four Thirds is 2x crop, or in the case of the GH5S, 1.8x crop. The video quality of the S5, even in aps-c mode, is better than the GH5S. Dynamic range is higher, colors are better, and high ISO performance is better.
my s1h produces amazing quality but i want auto focus.. 120p .. full frame... pana should have been sent and update ,, sony been calling my name if the fx6 had ibis or even digital in camera stab id ship now... c70 to soft looking its 2023 ... where is the eva 2 ???

Should you buy an S1H? Yes and No. I love my S1H and it is my A cam to my GH6. The footage still rivals any camera on the market but it is overkill for just YT. I am hoping Panasonic releases a new version with 4K120 (NOT CROPPED) but I wouldn't change anything else.
S1h dynamic range is still better than all other lumix cameras if gh7 wont have 16 stop. When I change Panasonic camera lut to Arri lut on fcpx in the video settings, so S1h can handle it easly, but when I try this with Gh5s it works but not like S1h. Also you can use real industrial cine/aramorpich lenses on s1h, because it has pl mount, like arri cameras. Gh7 can use arri log but camera is small for bigger cine lenses. I bet s1h camera has more ability, of course updates depends on Panasonic. But its definitely not like the lumix Gh series.

The reason Sony mirrorless cameras sell is aggressive marketing and autofocus, which is what youtubers need. If you are filming narrative (both fiction and non-fiction), the Sony's are a joke. I have been with Sony for more than a decade and since I cannot pay for the Venice, I am thinking of buying an S1H instead. The S1H is a professional cine cam. Period.

For sure! That's a pretty good trade to be honest. There's like zero people I know that even use S series cameras so ebay is my best friend.

Yeah it's crazy how if you want to tilt, just the action of flipping it out then tilting gets a little annoying haha. I hope so as well

That's definitely an option as well. The timecode sync is better on the S1H I believe as well so maybe not worth it to go to the S5

I bring the clip into after effects, use a tracker on my eyes, then stabilize the motion according to the tracked keyframes. It's my new thing haha

I have my fucking S1H for All....if you need something, u have it in S1H. Only for travel vlogging it's a little bit heavy.
I don’t own either camera but i shoot 4k60 (8 bit only) on a GH5s bought used for $1000. With the S5 the crop basically makes it MFT.
Not really. APS-C is 1.5x crop. MFT would be equivalent to 2.0x crop

I got a S5 and S1 (with log). Only really used the s5, the one time i wanted to use the S1, battery was dead.
The S1 is close to the S1H now but it's just bigger more bulky than the S5
The S1 is great for big lenses like the Sigma 105 1.4, otherwise i prefer the S5 ♥

S1h has flicker free does the s5?
I don't think flicker free exists. It all comes down to the shutter speed and depends on the lights on the environment
