These three are my best friends out here! Their home they’ve created is the very best! Thank you for this lovely tour to show people what is possible in Slab city!
This is by far my favorite home that I’ve seen so far. How creative and functional!! The Slab City folks have a fighting spirit and ingenuity for survival that impress’s me so much.
While the rest of us worry about rolling blackouts and food shortages, these guys are thriving. I am very, very impressed by the home the 3 of you have made...just lovely and inviting. Live your best life guys, I really wish I new a few people who would homestead with me.
We don't worry about rolling blackouts or food shortages. We have air conditioning, running water, flushing toilets, refrigerators, a chest freezer, solar backup, supermarkets, minutes away, etc etc etc. You're statement "while the rest of us worry" doesn't apply to millions of us. 🇺🇸😜💪⚡💣😎
@@fckjb284 I was wondering about rolling blackouts...I have never experienced them here in SE USA, but we have been warned by our electric co-op that it may happen. It hurt my heart for some people from those 2 states who spoke about rolling blackouts during an intense temperature spike last summer. I was wonderng how it works. Anyway, it is good to hear that no matter where you are from, you are not worried about such things! Best wishes for an awesome New Year!!
Stunning homestead. At first, you think it is a chaotic mess but then you begin to see order and symmetry. Even the animals are well cared for and healthy. I love the macrame designs as well. They are definitely thriving in the desert. Good documentary.
That is just ah-mazing! Just goes to show that a person who is a go-getter who is on the ball can make a good life anywhere out of very little! Three of them together gets you a place like that. A place I would be proud to call my home! Thank you for this video!!❣️
Rosie, I can't believe what Ryan created in the desert. What awesome living quarters he has with so many flowers and vegetable plants. The cellar will be so cool in the hot desert sun. The macrame was so pretty. Thanks Rosie
WOW ! This guy is building his own little Ranch and Art gallery. Just goes to show what people can do out of necessity. I've seen people set themselves up here way out in the scrub and make a little oasis for themselves. It's amazing what they can do with a few scraps of this and that and if they are happy I say "Good on them"
I have such a fascination with Slab city, and I remembered you had a video on it, So here I am rewatching it. I have been watching Slab City videos lately when i have time, And your voice with these people I see in their own videos was so cool.
Rosie, thank you for taking us with you! This place is so cool and is something I'm sure I'd never have gotten the opportunity to see if not for your visit!! Thanks again! Enjoy the rest of your week my friend ❤️
They are amazing people, and some of my favorite people in slabs. My dog's sister and litter mate lives there. We all have matching tattoos. Slab City is definitely going to miss those three, but I wish them all the luck in the world on thier next adventure.
I don't mean this to be a negative comment but something you did not mention is the trouble that goes on in Slab City. It's full of drug addicts and tweekers. They come at night to steal things and if they don't like you, they burn down your homestead. It's common out there for camps to be burned down at night or when left. The fire department doesn't respond due to so many calls. There are people there with only a mattress to sleep on. They constantly go around to mooch and steal from other people there and if you don't give them anything, they come back and burn you down or steal things. I'm sure this guy has to guard his camp 24/7. When newbies come to visit Slab City to be cool and hang out with the homeless, they get drugged and then raped and robbed. It's true, look it up. There's a lot of bad stuff that happens out there. I'm just giving fair warning to anyone watching this and thinking it's some sort of utopia. Be careful.
A lot of what you say is true, except you’re a bit off with the fire stuff. Lots of camps burn down out here but 90% of those are accidental. Intentional camp burning is usually thief vs thief. The fire department will absolutely respond to all calls. They’re out here at every fire we see. Other than that fire stuff, you’re right though. There is a lot of meth out here and because of that, a lot of theft. We’ve been out here for about 5 years and don’t have any problems. We don’t need to fend off thieves and can go out and do stuff without worry. If you hang out with bad people and do bad stuff, bad things may happen to you. Stick to yourself and don’t just trust everybody, and you can be fine. I think the reality of the place is right between the “slab city is hell!” And “slab city is heaven!” Videos lol
@@RabbitSide I'll bet you $1000.00 that you CAN NOT leave that place unattended for 24 to 48 hours without getting ripped off. Don't try to minimize how dangerous that "city" is. Tweakers, criminals, mentally ill homicidal misfits and arsonists is the MAJORITY of that "city". I always get a laugh reading the comments on Slab City videos...so many gullible people that think it's nirvana.😂😂😂💣🌡🌡🌡🔥 🔥
Wow 👍🏼 that's awesome 👌🏼! If slab city wasn't in California I'd be checking this place out! I live in a camper with 5 other campers 6 ft apart! Having more space no rent and potential like this place gives me some hope.
Not really. There are no resources out there. If the mail stops, or the power grid goes down, no gas, no water, no food other than a few chickens those people would be dead inside of a few months or less. Don't kid yourself...if the sheet hits the fan the have-nots lazy druggies in that "city" will take everything they have...and maybe their lives too.💣
Wow! What an attractive and functional home/compound .I love the ducks, chickens ,and turtles .The misting system is great .I didn't see any bathrooms, or kitchen, or sleeping quarters. The tube great! It really felt a a place to live and let live .Her macrame was beautiful.

It's totally amazing how some good people can create homes and not have to have all of the garage that we have to pay for in life with all of the stupid laws they come up with to force you to spend money you don't have, that's the kind of life I'd like to live like camping

I was wondering what everyone does with their human waste, there was one video i watched said they used a bucket, but what happens after that bucket is full? it will only hold so much.
We’ve dug a very deep “septic”!tank that our trailer’s black tank empties into. It’s near full but there is a tree planted next to it that is growing very fast!! We will soon stop using that hole and instead dig smaller diameter holes next to other trees in our gardens. We have a caddy on wheels for emptying the black tank and we will then empty that into the smaller septic hole in the garden. It’ll have a lid and vent pipe. Once it’s full we move to another hole and repeat the process. That way the waste going into the ground can be used up by our trees. As for the bucket thing, you’re supposed to then set that aside and start using another bucket. After some time the waste breaks down into “humanure” and it’s usable for compost. The bucket method isn’t very sanitary and there are other methods that are better. Look up “the humanure handbook” for more on composting human waste. We are fans of the “clivus multrum” design.
Every time he started talking about something interesting about his plants or gardening, he just cut him off and talked about tinkering with stuff. My grandfather had a pretty substantial garden when he was gardening. I literally learned no interesting or cool facts about what he was going to say. Sort of interested in homesteading myself; tinkering is not homesteading. Growing your food is homesteading... Not all of us have a black thumb… Super impressed with the pond and garden lol. Would have loved to have heard more from their garden.
Some very impressive innovations. My big question is where do you get water? Is the hot springs water OK to use for gardening without mineral or other compounds concentrating into toxic levels?
@@rosieokelly OK. How often do you need to do that? Your misting system seems like it is dual purpose. Simultaneously cooling the air, and keeping the dust down. BTW, I was wondering if you had ever considered growing Duckweed in your fish pond. It is not only a favorite food for fish and chickens, but is a plant high in Omega 3 fatty acids. Innovative agriculture ROCKS, and you are definitely in a place wide open for creative experimentation.
