R.I.P Tony Clarkin 24 November 1946- 7 January 2024. A fantastic guitarist that deserved to be as well known as the bigger names but any Magnum fan knows he was just as talented as the more famous fret-boarders. What a classy solo in this brilliant track.
Honestly, i admire Tony Clarkin as a composer and lyricist but as a guitar player... no. Not to say he was bad, far from it, but not especially outstanding. and that's OK, he had already more talent than so many that got much more fame than he had in the hardrock genre. And on this largely edited version of Vigilante, especially, there's nothing amazing in this tiny guitar "solo"... It's not even a guitar solo for me. I was indeed thinking he had done much better ones when I read your comment... For instance, on How Far Jerusalem.
Yeah, but Big Country had no use for synthesizers (much like the Irish rock band U2 in their pre-Unforgettable Fire era) instead relying heavily on the E-Bow.
I remember this being show on The Tube and introduced by Jules Holland as part off a " The Prisoner Special" filmed at Port Merrion. I've seen Magnum on many an occasion and almost ran over Tony Clarkin in Bath Street Glasgow. He walked right in front of my car, as we headed towards the Gig at The Glasgow Garage. It was only when he walked out on stage. I realized it was him 🎸🎶
Vigilante: A pure monster of a melodic rocksong!! MAGNUM, one of my alltime favourite bands. Saw them a few times live. They never dissapoint!! They always rock! 🤘🏻😎
@@ieltxumetal i think i do underrate them. I dont see anything special happening here. Not bad but noting special. Its not like Atomkraft's Total Metal song
My life has been standing on its head for the past 3 months...so I haven't been following much music news and stuff lately. Then I found out today that Tony Clarkin died on the 7th of january. I'm heartbroken, I have been a fan of Magnum since this song and album...Tony was a great guitar player, not much more I can say. R.I.P. Tony.
Muy dinámicos, y recomendables al 100% para todo el gusto, definitivamente una banda que a como un metalero le puede agradar, tambien puede encantarle a alguien qie ame el rock suave de los 80s!
So sad to hear of Tony's passing. I was 15 when I first saw them, opening for Blue Oyster Cult in 1979. Loved them straight away, bought Magnum II the following day. Saw them many times over the years. One of the great British bands. I think it's 23 albums and Tony pretty much wrote the lot. Remarkable. RIP.
I can't believe they cut a six and a half minute epic AOR song down to three and a half minutes. I know they had to create a single for radio airplay but there is a lot missing here. Sorry for the rant. This is awesome by the way.

Sad - he was the driving force behind Magnum. Thoughts are with his family. RIP xx
I never use the word genius too frequently, but for Tony, I believe it was apt!

My first Magnum song... still a classic.
RIP Tony Clarkin
Love Magnum. Underrated by miles. I collect underrated bands......being a Big Country fan. 🤡🐺

MacGyver: The Metal Years
R.I.P Tony. Excellent songwriter and guitar player
I expected them to be hardcore prog, all songs about goblins and stuff based on the covers, but this is a straight up 80s banger
That guitar player has 22 albums. He has riffs for days much respect
Fabulous 🤘🏻👏🏻
The first four or so albums are Prog Rock, and they often had at least one Prog Rock leaning song per album.
And Bob still does those moves to this day. What a frontman, amazing
What a perfect song
RIP Tony. Thank you for the music.
So good he can even chew gum and sing
He took lessons from Greg Lake ;-)
Halitosis was horribly rampant in the 80s
Thankyou Tobías sammet Thanks to you I know this band.
I got introduced to them via Arjen Lucassen, a.k.a Ayreon.
My favourite band with Asia, Bonfire and Scorpions.
Yes man this song is universally great

Great band. Saw them Wings Of Heaven tour. Hammsmith Odeon.

The video version only uses the single edit rather than the album version (which is clocked at 6 minutes and 40 seconds)
