Chase Bliss Brothers - Getting Vintage Tones!

  • This is recorded with an iPhone 7S and a Shure mic. It's not supposed to be hi-fi of course, but more as a quick reference on the Brothers pedal. Please forgive the PJ's! HA HA HA!
    Some people have said this pedal can't do "traditional" tones and I COMPLETELY disagree here!!! This is one of my favorite pedals and I believe nothing comes close in terms of flexibility, versatility, compactness and ease of use.
    There is a couple of accidental feedbacks happening here and there, but it's un-potted buckers facing the amp, 2 feet away. Sorry!
    I'm not using the dip switches at all! These are the basic tones that anyone can achieve in a matter of minutes.
    My Hi-Tone Hiwatt clone is a DR504, into a 1X12. Master is a little below noon, so the tones are not as big and bold as they could have been and it's a room mic only, so sorry! I'm playing a Gibson SG 1960 Reissue with Throwback SG short magnet pickups. Bridge pup is 7.6K A5, Neck pup is 7.4K A2.
    Again, this is a reference demo, NOT a full on attempt to shred fast complex licks in a professional studio environment. I'm NOT trying to impress anyone, it's ALL about the tones here, thank you!
    Sorry for the low volume on my commentary!

    Just got this pedal the other day and to say the least it’s my absolute favorite overdrive to date. It’s awesome at getting a great raw guitar tone and the flexibility is amazing.
    Great video, audio, and playing!

      Thanks so much Jake. I of course agree with you... I'm not sure why some people can't get those classic tones out of it. To me it's VERY organic and hairy, but all while being very musical and dynamic. I love it.

    I thought this just did OD and boost. The fuzzes sound damn good too. Not a bad sound in there and your playing is so tasty. Nicely done!

    The sound quality is great I reckon 'cause you kinda feel like you're actually in the room. More 'professional' sounding demos out there might sound very clear with no room ambience or whatever, but they don't actually make you feel like you're hearing what the guitarist is hearing as he's playing in the room.

    This is the only video that I like in terms of tone. I can't find my way with the Brothers yet, it's just so fuzzy. I reaaaallly would like to get these settings..

      I appreciate the nice words man. Thanks you. I was an idiot, and never copied the settings, ha ha ha!!! They're in there though. I start with everything at noon, then adjust to taste, then mess with the STACK toggle, then re-adjust the other settings accordingly. I mostly use channel A boost into channel B drive, I believe it was.

    1) Great 1st name Jacob
    2) Awesome tone. You've obviously put a lot of thought and time into achieving your sound.
    3) I'm considering purchasing the Brothers to replace 3 drives on my board and add fuzz to my available options. I'm running an OCD for low gain transparency, Plexi Drive Deluxe for medium gain and a Saucy Box as a boost. Do you think the pedal could serve all of these roles?
    Thanks for your help!

      Thanks so much Jacob. Hit me up here if you ever have any questions I may be able to help you with. I'm rarely logged into RUclips. Yes, I think the Brothers would satisfy, but it's a bit more organic and fuzzy than the OCD an Plexi Drive. Those are a tad tighter and brighter. But I do think it's absolutely worth giving the Brothers a try.

      MAn, I am so sorry. I never write them down. I didn't realize at the time the pedal doesn't recall settings like the empress's do with the led's. DOH!

    Jacob, what switching system are you using on the bottom left of your board?

    • @JacobPetersenPage
      @JacobPetersenPage  6 лет назад

      That is a midi controller from Disaster Area Designs. No tone is going through there, I'm using it to control the Empress Echo and Reverb, and the 3 Chase Bliss pedals. I can make presets and all that good stuff. Super useful, ESPECIALLY on a gig. I also have a 2 button favorite switcher from that same company top right, above the volume pedal. That allows me to store 2 favorite presets at anytime. Very convenient.

      Hey Jacob. Amazing sounds. Do you have the Empress midibox for the echosystem and reverb, or are they actually midi controllable via TRS? I can't really find concrete info about that. Considering buying a disaster Area switcher like the one you have, but i'd like to know if i should budget with or without the midibox :) Thanks

      I switched to an RJM Mastermind a few month back as it is more versatile, easier to program and has a lager more visible display. I am using 2 midi boxes from Chase Bliss(made by Disaster Area) that are located under the board.

    Hi Jacob. May I know what pedal you use to control the brothers via midi. Can that pedals store presets on the Brothers?

      Yes, that big midi pedal can store presets on the CBA pedals. If space is an issue, I'd recommend the Disaster Area midi switchers.

    so, the MIDI pedal you are using... it must be going to another box to plug into the Brothers pedal. is that the Chase Bliss modified Empress MIDI pedal? sounds fantastic.

    • @JacobPetersenPage
      @JacobPetersenPage  6 лет назад

      Correct. the box is underneath the pedal board. Thanks so much, man!
