  • LHOP ~ School Mom
Caroline's special efforts to teach a shy, older boy to read while she is substitute-teaching for an injured Miss Beadle are ruined when mean-spirited Mrs. Oleson humiliates him in front of the class and he vows never to return to school.

    I also liked this story.
Somehow a romantic mood flowed through the classrooms and the city, and seemed to express the warm, family happiness that we saw in the Middle Ages.
I still look back many times.
I've watched it as many times as "Uncle Jones' Bell".
Also, I think it was good to see it when I was a kid.

Not long ago I was watching Bonanza also. I grew up watching Bonanza. You know I thought Abel reminded me of somebody and come to think of it he does favor his dad. I love the character Hoss; I love his warmth, friendliness and caring to others. Like lhop Bonanza teaches allot of good values.

I am somewhat surprised that Lorne Greene never did an episode of LHOP

I agree. I use to be a sub instructional aide and I noticed allot of stuck-up teachers. I noticed that teachers didn't have the same qualities (caring, concern, warmth) that Miss Beadle and Caroline have in lhop.

I didn't realize that Jimmy McNichol, Kristy's younger brother, was one of the children ( Harry ) in the class. I used to have a huge crush on him when he was a teenager.

I noticed Caroline (teacher) being commanding; you know firm but gentle.

If only the teachers of today were like Caroline and had a firm grasp on what it means to be a teacher, then maybe public schools wouldn't have so many problems.

Charles and Caroline seem so much like a real couple!

I endorse the entire commentary of ginlep.
I am also an ardent fan of Bonanza and I was very happy when I heard that Mike had invited the son of Dan to act in an episode of LHOP.
I have not watched LHOP in Brazil when he passed the first time because I did not know it was with Mike. Once I found out I went to watch, but are already passing on the sixth season.
I was delighted when I saw this episode and found Charles still quite young, much like my Little Joe! Thanks for posting it here!

I liked this épisode. Abel isnt dumb at all! He never had the opportunity to learn to read and write . Its not his faut! Poor boy. He is Smart and Caroline is so gentle and full of compassion. I love her . She is great! A great mother and wonderful teacher. She never laughed at abel and encouraged him. Very good! He did huge progress thanks to her .

I really like this episode because I plan to be a teacher. I want to be the kind of teacher that ma is in this episode.... :)

He's Abel, too bad she's not willing (only kidding). I completely get teacher infatuation, especially if the student feels like an idiot/worthless, and someone gives special attention to your insecurity. Thankfully (I guess) my teachers weren't like Caroline, although my 7th grade French teacher was to die for!

@thechaz83 Yeah and the teachers are compassionate too. I have a teacher like ma who is the best.

Dirk Blokker was mentioned in the opening credits ( is that how you say that? )

Thanks for sharing who Able was (you and ginl). I knew he looked familiar. May I share that Dan (Hoss) was a democrat and supported Democratic Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, of Minnesota, for the presidency against the Republican Richard M. Nixon. My mom and me desired for Hubert H to win. In social studies class looking at R Nixon's pic as a child I think I thought of him as a crook or something. In later years my mom was saying he did some good things as US President.

How come Dirk Blocker's name was not in the credits? He had a big part in this particular episode.
