    It is also worth noting that in siege battles, bow warrior monks can engage most enemy archer units on the wall without fear of retaliation, and can bypass the defensive benefits of the arrow tower somewhat.

    • @TheVikingGeneral
      @TheVikingGeneral  2 года назад +2

      yup, but the enemy archers are still in cover, so you might end up wasting a bit more ammo.

      @@TheVikingGeneral Depending on accuracy bonuses one can take about two samurai or ashigaru bow users when they are in cover without losing a single man, so arguably they do beater in sieges than in open field, since open field I think they die in two on one combat?

    It was discovered that bow monks fire a different type of arrow in the coding. It is not entirely sure how it differs, but after testing, it shows that bow monks are more armor piercing than bow sams or ashigaru

    Something I really like about the increased range is that it makes the CPU charge you from further away. These monks combined with a Yari wall and some cavalry for flanking have gotten me some surprising wins.

      It’s not perfect. But the clan system, and legendary difficulty is some of the best most challenging gameplay for any seasoned total war player.
      It will literally force you to think smarter.

    They don't really beat all other ranged units. The Daikyu Bow Samurai wins the 1v1 against Chosokabe Bow Warrior Monks (both not upgraded). A possible drawback that both these units have is that they cost 2 turns to recruit, while normal Bow Samurai train in 1 turn from the T3 archery dojo.

  • @shingeovanny508

    I personally LOVE bow monks but it's the main infantry line that allows those monks to shine by holding the line. So units with high melee defense and armor play better with support units like bows, matchlocks, and cavalry since they buy you time to either flank your opponent or riddle them with arrows. Naginata will likely be your go to unit for holding the line and your front runner to absorb missile fire.

    The problem with going for the full nuke bow warrior monk is that you need way of the bow, essence of spirit, heaven and earth, AND chonindo. All these techs require a total of dozens upon dozens of turns, to the point that by the time you get access to gold accuracy bow warrior monks, the campaign is often basically decided. Going instead for silver is perfectly fine. I've never tried using them with base accuracy, but considering that their base accuracy is also insane, it might not even be necessary to recruit them from a crafts province. A holy site province will give them a huge amount of starting exp that effectively is accuracy bonus and other bonuses practically right away.

    • @TheVikingGeneral
      @TheVikingGeneral  3 года назад +5

      Yeah, that's true. But indeed, just their base accuracy alone is makes them pretty good. Also, it seems that archers have different arrow types, where bow monks get better at piercing/ignoring/reducing armour.
      I completely forgot about the increased ranks! That would've been a nice addition, thank you for pointing that out!

    • @GeraltofRivia22
      @GeraltofRivia22 2 года назад +1

      @@TheVikingGeneral I've found the best way to recruit bow warrior monks is in a province with a holy site and an armoury. You honestly don't need the accuracy boosts because of how high their base accuracy is, and the extra levels also improve their reload skill and melee abilities.

    I'd have to imagine whittle works best in a monk heavy army. Considering that the navigate monks outclassed most units in morale AND have their own debuff, a monk army should be very good a causing most armies mass rout very quickly.

    In Shogun 2, no units have shields. so Bow Units are very deadly even the most armored opponent without Wall cover or Forest Cover.
    *With exception of Bow Ashigaru, they sucked even early game and only use when you don't have any other alternative.
    Only in Shogun 2 It is plausible to have all Bows Army and still win against well-rounded army.

      I don't know about that, if your army is mid game or late game, or even early and it notices most of your army is ranged, it will charge you. This is an exception in siege battles. If you siege them, they're sitting ducks.

    Is it just me or does it seem that the bow warrior monks are extremely underwhelming? I've done tests where they would fire onto different kinds of units on flat terrain and even at higher levels they'd be lucky to get more than 7% of an enemy unit dead per volley. There was some battles with I had them fire at close range into a blob of units and they only managed maybe 50 kills, well the melee units got many hundreds in the same span of time.

    • @cole8834
      @cole8834 3 года назад +1

      They are highly accurate. You need to target high value units to get the most out of them. Or at least make sure they're always shooting without having to retreat, like a machine gun kind of.

      @@insaneweasel1 To tell the truth, one of my favorite "tricks" in multiplayer is to use 2 bow ash to kill my opponents bow monks. It works like a charm since the monks have low armor and numbers. The monks can't kill enough of my bow ash fast enough.
      But, bow monks are very good at focusing down units if you can keep them from getting shot themselves. Not only that, but bow monk's arrows have a modifier which makes them more effective against armor than bow ash arrows.
