Raised beds are very helpful for me and all my aches and pains. Helps to keep the dogs from trampling new seedlings and mature crops. Putting in 6-8 new beds this year!
I am 83 years old and have been gardening and preserving for over sixty years. We raised six children and most of them have the same passion for all the ways I have gardened and preserved. We actually still have family canning, ravioli making, sausage making and baking session. I love starting my seed for not only our garden but for the children and grandchildren. I am now teaching many of our adult grand and some of the friends how to can. Taking care of what the Good Lord has provided to us is my passion. You have a lovey family! I think these seed starting trays are a great new way to begin the new growing season. I will shop for a couple of them to add to my supply.
Just found your channel. Your awesome. I am 71 so my husband and I put in 5 raised beds and two green stalks. We grew so much food and loved the raise bed gardens. I have gardened for most of my adult life , 20x 40 garden but needed to prepare for my older years so I can continue. Thank you for all your tips. ❤
I will be starting my first garden this year. The plant and pop sounds idea for beginners. The seed starting bundle is definitely a must have. Thank you sharing!
This will be my 2nd year gardening, and I could use all the help I can get. I am a mom to 6 kids, 3 who are special needs and another who has several autoimmune diseases. We are slowly trying to learn how food and health all work together. Giving my kids the best quality food I can is very important to me. I feel like either of these amazing kits would be such a huge help to me this coming gardening season. Thanks for the opportunity.
I've never seen starter trays like these which are filled with possibility and solutions to other trays. I start my seeds under grow lights and often take them outside (Florida) to enjoy the sun and breezes. I have a tip for the kitchen but not the garden except DO NOT give up at your first try - takes time to learn your area, humidity, tempts, soil, pests. My kitchen tip is to use the back side of the knife instead of the sharp side when scrapping the food out - that way you save on sharpening! Do your oven trays glide? I've never seed that before but it looks so easy!
I’m not sure I really have a gardening tip except never give up. If something fails in your garden this year learn why it happened and do something different next year. The Vego seedling trays look and sound amazing. I didn’t have a lot of success last year in my garden last year so these would really help me to do something do and not give up. Thank you. Ok and I love your videos the way you do them.
I am in the beginning stages of homesteading in the city right now. The past two years I have had to delay the garden of my dreams due to pregnancies that took a lot out of me. However, I have new raised beds installed, and we have been working for over a year on building mulch into these beds by basically throwing all cardboard boxes, kitchen scraps, and even some logs as the base for our soil breakdown. This year we will attempt to buy some dirt from our city which is apparently really good for cheap and fill these beds so that I can begin the adventure of a bountiful harvest for my family not only this spring/summer, but also throughout the winter. I am newish to gardening, and the best advice I have been given is to not overthink it. Granted did I buy the adjustable planner so that I know when to start my seeds this winter, yes. I also bought a soul testing kit and am currently ordering my 2025 almanac. However, it is easy to overthink everything when really it's all about getting the seeds in their starts or in the ground and watching them grow. Then adjust your process based on how they respond.
This will be my third year gardening! I’ve been reusing old seed trays that plugs come in for seed starting, so this tray would be SO helpful! Especially for when it’s time to harden off seedlings, I wouldn’t have to carry so many little trays outside everyday!
It has been a few years since I’ve had a garden, and I’m planning to start again this year. Those trays look amazing! They would be so helpful to get the seeds going! I have so enjoyed watching your videos and learning more about homesteading from you. Thank you for a great channel!
Love gardening and regeneration, renewal and hope it brings! So excited to start teaching my granddaughter about gardening and healing benefit of getting hands dirty in the garden!
I always weigh dough. 😊 And I see you're a lover of Pampered Chef, too. I got my first PC products about 30 years ago and still love them. Stoneware is definitely my favorite. The seed starting press thing looks handy! I'll check in to it but I don't want to enter the contest giveaway. I buy all my supplies in bulk, so I have plenty of things on hand already. I'm starting onions and some slow-growing herbs inside this week, and winter sowing some herb / flowers outside for cold stratification. Maybe I'll get to it today. I'm also doing the pantry challenge but haven't made a video yet. It's been a hectic 2-3 weeks (not holiday related) and I think I'm almost caught up and ready to film. We'll see! ❤
My tip- as someone who put off gardening for years and only started last year- was not to wait for the picture perfect garden to start. Use whatever you have (we used old cinder blocks on our property) to make garden beds and start! And not to focus on the things that didn’t go great, but celebrate every small win!
I suggest growing what you use and not getting into to many plants. The seed starting tray you should is amazing. It would be so handy for this year's seed starting.
My tip is to utilize all space available. Rotate planting and use.cinder blocks around raised beds to grow herbs in. Some herbs repel bugs and are edible. It also helps to keep them from spreading and getting overtaken by other plants.
My tip would be not to get gardening fomo and only grow things that you already buy or know you like to eat. (Speaking from experience in my first year gardening)
Thanks for sharing those trays, they look amazing. I could use them for my. Egret able garden but they large tray would be amazing for starting my flowers. I will definitely be checking them out.
Those are some awesome seed starting options. =) My tip would be to grow things that are hard or expensive to source locally. Herbs are so much more expensive in the store. I can’t find fresh locally or afford to order online many of the herbs/plants I like to use for tea like lemon verbena, pineapple sage, stevia, etc, so those make sense for me to grow. I most often grocery shop on foot and carry groceries home in my backpack. So I grow delicate things like tomatoes and berries that would get squashed in my backpack.
These vego trays look great. The drip irrigation style would be awesome, I always start out well but get inconsistent. These seem like they would help a lot.
One of my best gardening tips is to mulch any dirt paths between your beds with straw. It's inexpensive and easy. to do. This creates a soft surface on which to kneel without getting dirty while working the beds. More importantly, it keeps weeds from sprouting in the paths and blowing into nearby beds.
My favorite gardening tip is to use outdated milk in my garden. After watering my garden with regular water, I'll go back and lightly "water" my plants at soil level with the milk. It gives them a boost of minerals and vitamins and it helps in producing larger produce. I had a cabbage that was solid and weighed 5#. That's good for my area. My broccoli not only gave me large 1st heads but numerous side shoots multiple times. I'm well over 18 and live in Michigan. My trays will be used to start seedlings for my use which I can and share with my 4 grown children, grown grandchildren and elderly (90 years old) aunt. My trays are getting up there in age and I do replace them as needed but these that you've shown are a gardeners dream. Love the seed spacer/starter set. The 4 square with the automatic waterer in the middle is great for the larger seeds. Good luck to the participants. You have a great channel here.
@@sharonswisher7274 what a fabulous tip! Thank you for sharing, and I agree about them being a dream! I actually reached out to my contact at the company and basically said the same thing! These will last, so even if you don’t win, make sure to grab it. They’re solid and so helpful. Good luck!
I would love to have these amazing easy trays. im live in a studio apartment so i dont have much room. I would definetly start with onions:) Thank you for showing these items. Love your channel!!!!
Wow. Thos are amazing. A seedling tray is infinitely useful for us as we live where our growming aeason is very short ... We HAVE to start our seeds inside.
I have had to switch to raised bed gardening with my terrible soil here. I have had such bad luck in the past with starting seeds. Really I’m thinking it was the terrible soil I put them into after they were started. These trays look amazing. I think I’ll try seeds again.
I have only grown starts from seed once and was not very successful. Would love to start peppers, tomatoes and brassicas to begin with then the sky is the limit!
I’m beginning my 4th year as a gardener also. I live in North Pole, Alaska so starting early is important for many plants. I plan on using the trays for onions as well.
I use raised beds because I’m disabled and I have a disease in my hands that makes it hard to start seeds. That looks like it would be the great way for me to do my seeds and easier on my hands.
I can’t grow onions if my life depended on it. The idea of planting the seeds at just the right depth makes my heart want to sing. I’d use the tray with the top that makes the holes even and allows me to get the seed wgere needed to plant onions and hopefully find success for once!
These trays are sooo cool!! I’m new at gardening but I would say start with using what you have or can get used. I saved all my plant trays whenever I went to my local nursery and then asked on my local Buy Nothing group for their old sheet pan trays and used those when I started my seeds. I didn’t have a lot of money to begin and this helped me to still obtain my gardening goals.
I hear this completely! I started with red solo cups and a tiny light from Amazon with all of my starts in our kids' bathroom. Starting this way takes the pressure off because you aren't investing a bunch of money. Good luck, and thanks for sharing!
I save egg shells all year round, dry them out, and grind them into a fine powder. In the spring when I plant my cucumbers and tomatoes, I put a scoop in each hole. It's helped me with blossom end rot (as well as the consistent watering). I love new technologies for seed starting as I start all my own seeds and I am always on the hunt for a better system.
I don't have a grain mill or any kind of wheat berries, but I do make homemade bread all the time. When I noticed the bread I had been buying said Bioengineered ingredients, I said that was enough. I found a great recipe that works for me, and I make it ever week, or every other week, depending on how much we eat it lol. I make our own hamburger buns also. I also make homemade tortillas. I don't like the aftertaste that the store-bought ones have. We moved to a new home last month and I will have to start over from scratch to make a garden area. I will definitely need something to help with the seed starting. I already have 2 of their raised beds to start my new garden area with. I plan to buy more closer to Spring.
Making it at home is a great move, even if not freshly milled. Removing the preservatives along is a game-changer for health. I'm considering moving my garden this year, so I'll be starting over also. It's always an adventure!
Those Vego trays look so neat. I've never seen anything like them before. i'm hoping to start my onions too soon and would love a chance to win the first kind of trays you talked about in your video!
My gardening tip is to plan realistically for how much of each thing you like to eat , plant accordingly and in waves, so not everything ripens at once. Also have plans on how you will process/meal plan what you grow BEFORE you harvest. Those plnt n pop seed starters look very useful for starting my tomatoes..
Love your videos!!! And your tiniest helper is so cute helping you. Makes me miss my girl at that age. She is almost 22 now. I am going to get a mill soon. I hope I can make bread that looks like yours. I ordered onions last year. I have seeds but not sure when to start them. I would love to try out these trays. We invested in a grow station last year. We weren't as successful as I would have liked.
Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad the little one is entertaining. It's tough watching them grow so fast. As for onions, I'm hoping they turn out. If not, starts aren't that expensive, so that's my fallback plan. Thanks for watching, and good luck!
Fun video! I would use the seedling tray as a way to insure I would be able to continue growing food for my family and maintaining some independence first us. I’ve been diagnosed with ocular melanoma, a very rare, incurable eye cancer and as I go through treatment I have many struggles with depth perception etc. The trays would make it easier for me to not strain my good eye while seed starting. Thank you for your consideration! 😀
That’s amazing that you’re focusing on your own garden. I’m so sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but it’s inspiring that you’re still pushing for independence. Good luck with your treatment, and I hope you can use the trays this spring!
I would use the vego trays to attempt onions again this year. My onions flopped last year. Recently discovered your channel finding your videos very helpful. thank you! ☺️
We moved to a new house so this year will be about starting our veggie garden from scratch. It was difficult to leave my established raised beds. I'm excited to start, but intimidated by the amount of work!
We are "low-key" looking at homes and considering our next move. It won't be for a couple of years, but I already have fears of leaving what I'm building here. Good luck with your new space and thanks for watching!
The skill I chose to begin this year is to learn how to grow a vegetable garden from seeds. I’ve been dreading it because it looks difficult. The seedling tray would be an absolute blessing and take the stress out of it!
I fought with my onion seedlings last year and am really excited to us this astonishing tool. I plant 2000 onions yearly for my husband and our local food bank. Jean Colorado USA
Great meal preps!! I love how you feed your family with nutritional mindfulness, and in a financially conservative way. I teach and provide meals for 24 young children each day. Our curriculum includes nature-based activities, which involves gardening to provide some of the meal components as well as teaching the next generation life skills. Both of the new vego products, the "seed starting bundle" and the 'plant and pop" would prove worthy in our setting. The children start all of their plants from seed. Both of these are incredible guidance tool for young hands. Thanks for sharing this link.
@@thehometownhomestead I have operated a childcare/preschool for more than 4 decades. Beyond writing, reading, and math, we encourage outdoor investigations on our 96 acre property, Numerous trails, a stocked trout pond, vernal pool, and 50 raised beds. Plus fruit trees and variety of berries. Lots of wild life. We have raised pigs, turkeys, meat birds, and have laying hens year round. The children play a part in it all,. About three decades ago, I created a preschool cooking program. When children plan, seed, water, weed, observe, harvest, and cook,,,,,,they eat! Their favorite, and most requested homemade pizza is swisschard!!
@ that’s incredible! I often get asked how I got my kids to love vegetables. I have found that whatever they grow, they will try, for one! Thanks for sharing, and congrats on a job well done. 💕
Every year I vow to start my seeds early and yet I’ve never done it. These look so easy and much better than the plastic trays from the box box store. It inspired me to start!
There is ZERO comparison between these trays and the trays from a big box store. You will be blown away when you hold them for the first time. Good luck!
Last year I went crazy when I bought seeds and wasn't able to plant at least half of them! I didn't have a lot of luck starting seeds, but that was on me.
I would work with my kids to plant some seeds for the garden. My biggest tip is keeping the soil fertile with compost and before starting a garden look at the sun/shade of that area…how close it is to reaching a hose to water.
I am starting a garden for the 2nd time & I think you plant what's liked for the family! I'm very excited for starting making our own bread. Thank you for sharing! ❤
Love your videos and I will loved to used these tray in my growing life now and my kids will be able to help me do it because, I think it's great to let my kids know where there food come from.
That’s the coolest thing ever. I never knew that existed or that company! My tip, is just to start whether it’s one container or one crop just start. I’d use these to help expand my homeschooling for my kids and use it as a learning experience for not just my kids but myself. Happy New Year 🎉
I agree! Years ago, I "planted" a salsa garden in a few flower pots and promptly killed them all within a month. I'm so grateful that I decided to give it another go. Gardening brings me contentment. Thanks for watching!
@ Me too! I lost my dad about years ago and my mom in July this past year and gardening has helped and continues to help. I’m growing as well as my plants and thankful for both 🙌🏼
I start all my garden plants from seed and absolutely love doing it. Those trays would be an awesome addition to my seed starting. I'm already chopping at the bits to get started but have to hold myself back. lol
I would use trays to get a head start on my seeds. We live in Ohio and can have cool weather pretty far into spring. This would give me peace of mind to get seeds going and keep them going inside my home! It would also be fun to let my boys grow some things for homeschool :)
I bought a bunch of Bootstrap Farmer trays last year too. I actually have one of their domes on the plant and pop tray right now. I will say the Vego trays are nicer. They're thicker and just have more innovation. That said, ZERO chance I would swap. When/IF you add more? Then look at the Vego options. Thanks for watching and the kind words! Hope to see you back soon.
I'm only a second year gardener so no tips but I would use the trays to start my garden. We live in upstate NY so if we don't start our seeds in the house early, we won't get a harvest. It also helps my kids understand the growing and gardening process, even with snow still on the ground.
@thehometownhomestead Yes! We are a few hours away from Buffalo but we usually get the same storms. We really only have from late May to Sept to grow outside, if we're lucky.
Those trays are SO cool! I would love to have those for this year’s garden. I’m planning on seed starting indoors for the first time this year and that first tray would be SO helpful! I planted directly outside last year and I feel like I lost a lot of grow time. I did all starts before that, so hoping seed starting indoors is a happy medium.
@@natashaheacox3328 starting outdoors is the easiest, but yes. You definitely sacrifice growing time. And starts? That gets costly, quick! Even if you don’t win, come back for the trays. They’re simply amazing!
@ for sure! I did a big expansion last year and starts just weren’t in the budget 😅 Dropping seeds in the soil is so much more cost effective and I know exactly what’s going on. I *might* be a control freak, too lol!
I have 2 different holders, so I'll link them both. amzn.to/3PuKlaZ and amzn.to/3DV3oZu I watch back my content and attempt to link anything that might be of interest, and I totally spaced this one! Thanks for watching, and I hope to see you back soon!
I love the design of the seedling tray. It makes it so easy and uniformed when starting seeds. Then being able to pop out the starts is fantastic. Thanks for sharing some of the Vego Gardens products with us! Happy gardening!! 🧅🫑🧄🥒🌶
My tip is not to give up on gardening even when you have a couple years of crummy weather! (thanks a lot south central Alaska! 🙄) I have been trying soil blocking the last 2 summers and I can’t figure if that’s been my problem lately or just the 2 summers of massive rain we have had! Maybe those vego containers would work better! I’ve been on the fence if I’m going to start seeds this summer or go back to starts.
I had visions of soil blocking, but it looks a little daunting to get the mix right, plus, these trays are SO easy to use! Check them out before you go back to starts because starts are WAY more expensive for a full garden. Good luck!
You are wise, my friend! 😂 Funny story though, mine were dead after 4 zuccs each, 2 years running. We skipped them last year, and I was thrilled to not have to mess with them. You win some, you lose some! Good luck!
Buy open pollinated heirloom seeds and seed save! It's a bit of an investment up front (seeds $3-$4 bucks a pk add up!) but then your seeds get better year after year for your growing area❤
Gardening is so much fun! I'm glad you're starting your journey! I would start simple. For me that was tomatoes, peppers, onions, and cucumbers. Branch out from there. Check out the Vego Garden Academy page for more awesome info on starting seeds and gardening. They're a wealth of information, and make sure to hang around here because we're planning to move my garden this spring, so it will be like starting over! Good luck!

I love the seed starting tray! I would use that to get a few seedl8ngs started for the garden this year.
I love hearing about folks using their own resources! That's a great tip.
Always have FUN while gardening.
Same here! There isn't much like connecting back to nature!
These items would be a great motivation to start your seeds.
I agree with this for sure! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for another great video from your kitchen! Beautiful loaves of bread!!!
Thanks for watching!
My tip is just to enjoy the time you spend gardening regardless of the results!
Gardening tip- gardening a little is better than no gardening at all.
I have been wanting to start a garden. I am going to research how/when to start the seeds here in Texas.
I would use it to grow tomatoes 🌱 and flowers 💐 ❤
Love this ! Excellent meals! New subbie. You did great. Thank you❤
Welcome, and thank for you watching! I JUST finished editing the one for next week! More fun ahead, so make sure to turn on the bell.
I would use the vego trays to attempt onions again this year. My onions flopped last year. Recently discovered your channel finding your videos very helpful. thank you! ☺️
I would really enjoy trying the starter tray for onions. Love the idea of the tray popping them out so easily. That can get tricky.
That system would actually help my post brain injury manage starting a garden. So much of the thought process already done. I could start this year!
I keep trying to start seeds indoors. This sounds like a great system.
@@kellysummers4335 I started in red solo cups. Trust me when I tell you, that IS doable, but far from ideal.
Good luck in this contest!
I fought with my onion seedlings last year and am really excited to us this astonishing tool. I plant 2000 onions yearly for my husband and our local food bank. Jean Colorado USA
That's a huge commitment to onions, Jean! You're going to love this seed-starting system! Good luck, and thanks for watching!
This sounds like an awesome "school" setting(?) Is it a school, or more of a co-op? What a gift to be able to give them life skills like this!
Good luck!
My tip is to be okay if something doesn’t grow. Try try again and love the experience. You can only grow as time allows.
That is such a great way to look at it! You only get better with each try!
Those are great tips! Thanks for sharing!
My tip is for older gardeners is to try straw bales. The height is perfect and much better on the knees.
Yes. this is a great ideal!
I am starting a garden for the 2nd time & I think you plant what's liked for the family! I'm very excited for starting making our own bread. Thank you for sharing! ❤
@@ncmommy it’s exciting to work on new skills! Good luck, and I hope to see you back soon!
Love your videos and I will loved to used these tray in my growing life now and my kids will be able to help me do it because, I think it's great to let my kids know where there food come from.
That is awesome! I think it's so important to help kids understand where their food comes from. Thanks for watching!
That might just be the coolest seed started I have seen. Love it!
That's what I thought when I opened the box! I have loved every single product from Vego, but these are over-the-top good! Thanks for watching!
I’m growing as well as my plants and thankful for both 🙌🏼
I would love to start off gardening and this has truly been a life changer watching this video. Happy to subscribe!
I am so glad you’re joining us on this journey!
I start all my garden plants from seed and absolutely love doing it. Those trays would be an awesome addition to my seed starting. I'm already chopping at the bits to get started but have to hold myself back. lol
I'm SO DONE at the end of the season, but after the new year starts, it's game time again! Thanks for watching, and good luck!
I just bought a grow light and I'm excited to use it.
I would use the seed tray for my summer seeds... right now my seeds are taken up by spring starts.
The tray would fantastic for starting flowersl
That is a great idea.
I would use trays to get a head start on my seeds. We live in Ohio and can have cool weather pretty far into spring. This would give me peace of mind to get seeds going and keep them going inside my home! It would also be fun to let my boys grow some things for homeschool :)
I love the garden for homeschool purposes!
Thanks for watching!
I'd love to try that tray! I have all but given up on growing up onions because I can't get the seeds to start!
My tip, every year is a new experience. Don’t give up if you have a bad crop or year.
Completely agree!
Use companions flowers to help bring in beneficial insects!
Which are your favorites to plant? I have used marigolds with great success, but would like to expand this year.
@ We used zinnias, cone flowers, and marigolds this year with some luck!
I have bootstrap farmer seed/ micro green trays I love them great quality how ever these are some really nice looking seed trays . Love your channel
I have a good friend in Buffalo. Are you covered in snow currently? I can imagine that your season is super short!
@thehometownhomestead Yes! We are a few hours away from Buffalo but we usually get the same storms. We really only have from late May to Sept to grow outside, if we're lucky.
I plan to give this to my best friend. She is always frustrated with the kits her husband buys. These should be a homerun!!!!
@@Bearfence husbands are often well meaning, but sometimes we’d rather pick things out ourselves. 😬
This is a very kind plan. Good luck!
Love the spiral egg holder! Where can i find one pls?
I have 2 different holders, so I'll link them both. amzn.to/3PuKlaZ and amzn.to/3DV3oZu
I watch back my content and attempt to link anything that might be of interest, and I totally spaced this one! Thanks for watching, and I hope to see you back soon!
@thehometownhomestead ty so much!
If I were to win the seed starting tray, I would also start with onions because I never have very good luck with them.
Same
Onions seem to always be my nemesis too. I did have decent luck last year with starts. Good luck!
I love the design of the seedling tray. It makes it so easy and uniformed when starting seeds. Then being able to pop out the starts is fantastic. Thanks for sharing some of the Vego Gardens products with us! Happy gardening!! 🧅🫑🧄🥒🌶
@@jenmag0313 same to you! Thanks for watching!
Good luck!
My garden tip if you're getting started, start slowly. We want to grow all the things but overwhelm is a real possibility.
I agree 1,000%. Pick a few things to grow, and learn to care for them instead of overwhelming yourself from the start!
I have found grow bags to be helpful in keeping down the weeds.
I was gifted a bunch of grow bags and have considered them for potatoes this season to save all of the digging.
I enjoyed watching you!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
My tip would be is to grow vertically to save space especially if you have a small area for gardening!
I LOVE growing my cucumbers vertically! Great tip. Thanks for sharing!
I would start seeds to share even more with friends and family so they can fall in love with gardening too!
Just order 7 Vego raised beds for Christmas and now they have seedling trays!! Wow can’t wait!!
@@terryhuggins8529 what height did you get? I’m planning to do this before the spring!
Plant what your family will eat ❤ one zucchini plant is enough 😂 that is my reminder every year!
COMPLETELY AGREE! Thanks for sharing!
Those seedling trays are really neat. I’m new to gardening so I would love all the advice.
Good luck!
After loosing my garden last year in a hurricane, I am having to plant a lot this year. I think these seed starter's would make life a little easier.
It’s definitely a challenge starting over, but I'm sure you’ll get everything going! Good Luck!
