In this video, I dive into the hotly debated topic of relic guitars. Kicking things off with a jam on my Fiesta Red Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster, complete with a stunning relic finish, I share why I love this guitar and the unique charm of relic instruments.
Relic guitars, also known as aged guitars, have their own distinctive appeal. I discuss the aesthetics, the feel, and the sound that make these guitars special. You'll get an in-depth look at how the relic process gives a new guitar that vintage, worn-in look, and why many players, including myself, are drawn to them.
Some guitarists adore the character and history that relic guitars seem to embody, while others see it as artificial aging. I'll explain my perspective on this controversy and why I believe a well-done relic job can enhance the playing experience. From the smooth neck feel to the visual impact, relic guitars offer something truly unique.
Join me as I explore the world of relic guitars and provide insights into why they have become a staple in my collection. Whether you're a fan or a skeptic, this video will give you plenty to think about. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more guitar discussions, demos, and gear reviews!

I love your playing and killer tone
Thank you so much! Much appreciated.
I do love my Road Worn Fenders! I have several legit worn guitars that I wouldn't dream of parting with either.
There is something about a broken in guitar!
To each their own. I don’t like relics personally, but if that’s someone’s thing, so be it🎸
I hear ya!
killer!!!
Thank you so much!
I think you can take a cheap Squier, work the neck, round the edges, sand the finish, and you can get a lot of the way there without spending thousands. I think the comfortable neck is the best feature of these relics
I agree with you there. It seems in some of these Custom Shop Strat's it's the Pickups that really seem to make the difference. Not sure what it is and I've had some that didn't sound as good but if you find a good one you will know.
@@badbrad Yeah, there’s really no way to make a POLY finished guitar look aged including Squire’s!! That paint is just way too thick let alone trying to get it finish check..MJT create some of the finest looking relic bodies out there..if it’s your “thing” It’s all good but there are a ton of haters out there. Your looks great it’s a light to medium relic!! Perfect!!
i play a guitar that gets asked if it’s a relic, and it’s not, nor is any of the wear fake- even though it looks worse than rory gallaghers. the *only* thing i think is lame af is when i see someone playing a blasted guitar in a way that makes the wear seem clearly fake. it’s pretentious. but some things- like paint gone from the back of the body and neck- id do just because it’s a functional thing.
I hear you!
Closet queens are great. And while I am a fan of relics. My rulw is; Find a guitar you love, and play the shit out of it !
This 💯
What pickups in the strat
Fender Handwound 60/63
Great color…but why have the fake worn off bs? Makes no sense. Earn that shit…most of my friends like relic-ing
I’ve got a lot of worn out guitars with real wear but I think the idea is to look like a vintage guitar For me it’s about the sound and feel and this one checks both of those boxes.
