Would have loved to see the engine setups. More under the hood shots. I was glued to this video from start to finish. This is my kind of entertainment.

Hey I'm the guy who built the 99 700 at 8:10. Built it as you see it here when i was 17. Cool to see the sled still kicking around!

Dang.. Imagine building a sled like that at the ripe old age of 17 ;)

    I loved Tony Applegat's 440 snowmobile.
I work shakily on lightening a trail from -88. The bogie is fully built, is made of cromemolly tubes.
I'm interested in how Tony did the steering in the front, in front of the engine. If there are more pictures of it, I would be grateful. Best regards Mike.

Wish the camera would show the sleds more - it just locks on the people talking when their discussing parts on the sleds

Couldn't agree more I always quickly skip through thier videos. First just to see if there is any sled action longer than a 5 second clip but 9 times out of 10 it's just some dude talking... nothing really interesting to keep me wanting to watch.

Love it! So many memories. My first mountain sled was a 94' 580 Mountain Cat that I dropped the track, tapered and chopped the tunnel. Narrowed the A arms. Didn't have any money for performance parts so it was all cut, weld, and rivet. It didn't look all the great but it moved through the deep snow very well for what it was. It's incredible how far the new sleds have come.

loved the video. iv got a 99 summit x with the 670 ho some guy built in 2000 to go to revy every weekend. shes all done up. Dropped and rolled chaincase, aftermarket tunnel and everything anodized that the dealer probobly sold then. would be a blast to ride it with some other sleds of the same era.

Got to ride Norm Ekholms fully modded vmax 4 back in late 90's...that thing was stupid fast and went anywhere...a total mountain rocket.....my sled was a fully modded 700 powder special with a huge 144, 2 inch ...lol...
these are machines you actually had to ride....miss those days...great vid...cant wait for ride vid to drop...

Awesome vid, awesome sleds, great interview with everyone, you have to do more of these whether it's old or new sleds, sled builds and story's make great content. Love those 90's sleds, it was the heyday of sleds, sales through the roof.

The kids mountain sled is the best one for me. A true kids sled! Not some underpowered can't go threw 10 inches of snow type. That is sick!
Beside the full custome sleds, I have either worked on, owned, or road them all. I picked up a 4 banger a few years ago for 500 bucks!! Had 1 smoked piston and I just replaced the one and still runs today.
P.s., I lived 8 miles from polaris from 1990 to 2000. I got so see and ride just about everything they made. But of course they were mountain sleds (not that they existed back then).
If you are looking for these old sleds, check out all the for sale stuff from MN and ND. They are out there, still in someone's barn out here. They are everywhere here.

I love vintage sleds much older than y'all are going to ride. Admittedly I'm a Yamaha guy. When that vmax came out, oh so wanted to hear it. Then the blue head. All the other side too. You're an icon promoting vintage sleds. What's not to love

Was fortunate to live in Sumpter, OR outside of Baker City. Great riding for my unsupervised 16 year old self and my 97 Summit 670. Had no idea I'd see someone from the area on here, but it is a huge snowmobile area anyways.

Agree with what you said about the challenges being enjoyable! I havent ridden in a few years now, but my last sled was a shorty skidoo XP 800 -10 and I had to push that machine really hard in the mountains, it was easy when there was spring snow here in Sweden though! Before that sled I had a rev 440 -06 and rode it in the mountains as well, that was fun.

I don’t know if Jim’s sled was there but State Line Polaris would run sleds on the grass near my house when I was young, when I heard them running I would pedal my ass towards the sound and watch them rip. Does my 2020 count as old iron now?

No, it’s not the vmax, it’s his 98 mountain max 700, with mad max hood. It’s been seriously neglected and going under a serious overhaul.
