Loved your commentary on this. It was so refreshing to watch someone talk about the game in a mostly positive light and appreciate some of it's aspects. I always did enjoy playing through those missions as they did feel quite varied, are well structured and have a good pace to them. Honestly makes me wish other Spidey games tried more unique stuff like how this game did with it's controls and missions. Plus, it's just cool to see Tobey's Spider-Man face off against these other villains that we don't see in the films. Most people didn't like the controls but I grew to love the way Spider-Man moves/traverses. It's one of my favorite games to control Spider-Man and actually enjoy way more than the TASM games. The vibe, the atmosphere, the music, the colors, the agility of spider-man, the feeling of chaos like in the comics with just an overload of villains that could appear any time, the designs. Great video Diego! I strongly agree with you, I always really liked this game and I never understood why it gets so much hate. I played the ps2 version first back in the day and upgrading to the Xbox 360 version felt like such a huge leap in terms of literally everything. People always look back at Spider-Man 2 and praise it to death yet this game just gets the short end of a stick for some reason when I feel like SM3 is basically the same game but much more bigger and ambitious with so many comic book callbacks and villains in it. Does it have jank and goofy shit in it? Definitely, but there's so much great Spider-Man stuff to do in the game that its not that big of a deal. Its just a fun Spider-Man game.
I think it's overhated but at the same time Spider-Man 3 got rid of some basic shit Spider-Man 2 had. For some reason you can no longer visit the Islands or swing from helicopters, momentum barely carries over when you transition from diving to swinging, Spidey somehow has fewer air tricks and the city looks so grey as opposed to Spider-Man 2 where it looked more vibrant despite being less populated Not to also mention that the dodge being replaced with a janky ass wannabe bullet time made several aspects of combat infuriating because it was tied to a timer and unlike Spider-Man 2, there weren't a lot of moves that let you counter multiple enemies like that one spinning kick Also several random events being absent, like saving falling civilians or fighting giant mechs, made the game feel basic cause you were always either stopping cars, fighting two opposing gang or beating a simple mugger If the game had kept most of this all whilst expanding on them it would've been received better

In my opinion no, it's not bad. Sure, it has not very good graphics but in general, it is a good game. It has very cool combat system with effective combos and cinematic animations. And flying across the New York city is actually fun, if you catch the momentum and actually learn how to web swing. My only complaint about this game is about bad camera, that acts weird, especially on PC, about bad graphics that looks cheap and about QTE, that sometimes can get annoying. Other than that, it is fun to play. I even enjoy flying across the city and find some building where you can actually enter and explore them. Sure, you can't access all of the locations but still. And then the gameplay for red and black costumes are actually different. And black costume feels more powerful and actually has new moves. So yeah, I think that this version is good. And if they fix the graphics and camera, and make QTE less annoying, it would be even better than just good. And hold on, what do you mean that Web of Shadows did not have sprint button? Cause it did! I played PC version and it had sprint button. For me it was left shift button.

I replayed it a few months ago and yeah, it’s a little janky and rough around the edges but it’s charming in a way. And yeah some parts of the game are kind of tedious, like a lot of the gang stuff (especially Dragon Tails holy shit those missions are boring) and many of the boss fights. But they don’t overstay their welcome as much as people make it out to be. Overall it’s a decent followup to Spider-Man 2 the Game. And hot take I actually prefer SM3 to WoS-mechanically WoS is superior (better swinging, combat & graphics) but I find the gameplay structure far more repetitive and tedious, especially in the second half when the invasion fully kicks in.
Yeah I also think SM3's open world is better than WOS but the latter is a more enjoyable title I also don't like how WOS got rid of the sprint button. Using Spider-Man on ground feels slow af even though he's canonically got enhanced movement
I remember seeing trailer commercials for this port of the game back when the movie trailers were trying to get me hyped up. It wasn't until five years later, I found out that this port was the PS3 port and I didn't have one at the time, so I was instead stuck with the original PS2 port. Only in the PS3 and 360 ports, New Goblin is playable, confirmed.
Even if it's not as HD as SM3, I feel like the art direction in the PS2 games were better. Something just looks off about this one, and it has a less impressive OST. Of course if we're talking outside of the Raimi trilogy games, Ultimate's untouchable visually compared to the others. As for the double jump thing, I like it in games since you can push your momentum further, it just has a good bit of energy to it, but I guess I get some not liking it much. Having side missions is nice though.
The pc port had it rough. Lots of shaders were missing or not correctly rendered. The building windows at night suffered greatly and the lack of motion blur during swinging. But the biggest disappointment was the locked 30 fps gameplay and wonky mouse support [it has deadzone in a mouse 💀]
Replaying the game recently twice it has issues for sure but I still think it’s a solid game, I do indeed love the combo combat rather than one button hits we got used to after awhile, the music is unbelievably great for a movie game, and I quite enjoy the mission structure. A lot I love I have for this game was later moved to games like WOS and 2018. They took what this game tried to do but polished it up. I believe Godzilla Mendoza once mentioned a few years ago that 2018 did that exact thing for TASM 2 but realistically every Spider-man game always takes something from the past and adapts it. Look at SM2 we have now with the black suit rage meter returning from this game and shattered dimensions, the web launch from this game (and comics), and the super move/abilities section Miles and SM2 have returning from the PS1 games. They always look back to what made these fun and this game is a part of it. I’ll always enjoy jumping back into the old style NY with Spidey and having some fun for a good few hours. No matter what people think of it, it’ll always be a favorite of mine
I never got Spider-Man 2 on the PS2 as a kid, but I did get 3 on the PS3 (and it made all the sense in the world with the console's font at the time)! For me, THIS was my Spider-Man 2 videogame. The first time I could truly go around New York in an open environment and just swing to my heart's content! Not to mention the combat being the best I'd seen in a videogame up to that point. It became my definitive Spider-Man game as a kid, and it kinda breaks my heart that people can be so harsh to it. Sure, better Spider-Man games have come after it, but I still think it's a fun one.
I had this game when I was in middle school and I had fun with it, but that is because as a middle schooler I had a lot of time and patience, and it also helped a ton that the TV I used was old and didn't have HDMI, so I couldn't fully experience the graphics as they should have been until a couple of years after my family bought one of those early Plasma TVs, mostly because my family was taking advantage that the PS3 was a Blu Ray player and they wanted to experience Full HD, and then once I experienced this game in Full HD was when I started to dislike it, it just looked ugly and unpolished and got me distracted a lot, to the point where I would fail quick time events not because they were hard, but because I was baffled by how ugly some scenes looked, and it didn't help that when you failed and you got stuff like the lady screaming we're all going to die, that was pretty funny too so sometimes I would even fail on purpose to see the alternate outcomes, so there's definitely a lot of fun you can have in this game, if you can somehow get past the ugliness of the overall game, especially when you have a lot of stuff to do in the game, but there are many moments of frustration due to bugs and glitches so you have to watch out for those too, I definitely think that if Sony took more time to cook this one in the oven, it could have been hailed as one of the greatest Spider-Man games kind of like how the second movie version for consoles is still looked back fondly upon, but because Sony wanted to milk Spider-Man 3 for all that it was worth, its how Sam Raimi was forced to add Venom in and pretty much ruin the pace the movie had, and they also ruined the Playstation's legacy because they used the letters of the font for the Spider-Man films to brand their PS3s and that got a lot of negative talks going, as well as how ridiculous the prices were for the PS3 when it first came out, and how things like the Sixaxis controllers didn't have rumble and stuff, and there's a lot of more stuff that I could go on, which is why when you combine all of this it was a horrible experience to everyone who was involved, and thats mostly the reason why the game is looked back upon so negatively, and the only reason why you can look at this game positively now, is because you are playing it right now on a modern PC with an emulator that improves the overall appearance and experience of the game, but for those of us that had been in the moment when this came out, we can all agree that it was a very pathetic attempt at a cash grab from Sony, which is why most people had bought the game used, and its a shame too because had they let Sam Reimi do his own thing, we might have gotten an even better movie than what we got, and they could have always added Venom in to the PS3 game as an exclusive or something, just so that Sony fanboys would get revenge on the Kraven exclusive content for the original Xbox, but alas things happened differently, and it is what it is.
Spider man 3 is not bad And the combat is very good and fun. And the Swing is very good. I love this game very much. And is a graphic , it is very good
I had both this, and Web of Shadows growing up (alongside Ultimate and Shattered Dimensions) funnily enough I always viewed this as a sister game to WoS, and I definitely feel like I'm in the minority, but I think this game was far more enjoyable than WoS for me. I do think WoS has a better combat system, and I love how fast the swinging is but... that game is not only repetitive, but I feel like it lacks a lot of things spidey 3 has. No races, combat tours, and I swear I always zone out with the missions near the end. While Spidey 3 is definitely janky, I absolutely loved the variety it had, having missions take place indoors, and like with shattered dimensions, each storyline sorta plays out like a episode of a Saturday morning cartoon and I love it when that happens. My only main gripe is the gang missions are admittedly eh, I wish there were more missions that adapted the movie, and I think there was missed potential with a playable New Goblin. While I definitely appreciate WoS for what it does, if you were to ask me to choose between 3 or WoS to be the only spidey game to play for the rest of my life? Definitely picking 3!
I rememeber either the second or third game in the options you could actually use R2 to swing with roght hand and L2 for left hand or both at the same time
Game isn't bad, but I swear the regular villains (the non-powered gangs you had to fight constantly) were just so overpowered. Didn't matter when you had the black suit or not, you could get your ass kicked in a minute. But once again, not a bad game, just got overwhelming at times.
Yeah the game's biggest issue is balance plus an unfinished/mishandled dodge. Somehow Kingpin is harder than Venom and enemies can attack you offscreen. To the dodge system, being able to slow down time and automatically dodge or counter an attack is cool on paper but the big issue is that the timer drains very fast so several times you get hit not because you failed to press the button but because the timer was drained. Also you can't really dodge efficiently whilst moving plus it also barely works in the air when compared to dodging on ground Also the black suit needed more in combat to feel truly unique during fighting. Sure there are several combos/moves exclusive to it but he still moves the same way regular Spidey would. The last gen version despite having worse combat had the right idea by making your attacks much faster than the regular suit own The best thing about the SM3 game black suit is the rage mode taking away chunks of health, the different swinging animations and faster web zips and unique idle animations
This is the only game that made me rage quit within 30 minutes. I couldn't make sense of the compass at all to find some rooftop thugs that I just gave up and sold my copy.
I recently replayed this game not long ago, I tend to heavily criticize the game and give it flack. But honestly, no it's not THAT bad. But it's still bad. The graphics are awful even for it's time. The combat controls fine, but feels still unbalanced since as Spider-Man, I feel like you shouldn't have to go toe to toe with normal thugs in game the way Spider-Man 3 forces you to. The web swinging is slow as you kinda come to a dead stop when you're swinging which hurts momentum heavily. The story is bad (not like they had something great to work with) and is approached worse than the movie does it. And cutscenes are a pain to watch, unless you want something to laugh at. Overall, to me this game just reminds me of how much better Web of Shadows is. But I can only really ever touch this game if I truly have nothing better to do, or wanna laugh at a Spider-Man game.
It's definitely the worst entry of the Raimi Spider-Man games, but there's something so endearing about it. It almost falls into the "so bad it's good" realm. I grew up with the PS2 version, which is slightly better than the PS3 version, and it has Morbius!
I was so obsessed with this game for Xbox 360 and even though I sunk so much time into it, I guess it just didn't have the novelty of Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 2 being such a great movie, too. I enjoy the hell out of Spider-Man 3 the movie, but i remember the reaction to 3 being kinda muted compared to 2. I wonder if that had something to do with it, too.

And is a graphic , it is very good
SM3 was so bad for me I hated it didn’t even finish. But I was okay with and finish TASM 2 just fine. 😂
Yessir
I played GBA Spidey 1 & 2, then Wii Spidey 3. Lol
Man, if I could relive childhood with a ps3.
I like the game I think the issue is that it’s very unfinished
Takes photo of guy in lizard head costume, the lizard we see next has the same identical head...... How did that guy know xD
I had both this, and Web of Shadows growing up (alongside Ultimate and Shattered Dimensions)
funnily enough I always viewed this as a sister game to WoS, and I definitely feel like I'm in the minority, but I think this game was far more enjoyable than WoS for me.
I rememeber either the second or third game in the options you could actually use R2 to swing with roght hand and L2 for left hand or both at the same time
Why cut the whole part with Kingpin ?
Yeah I never really got the hate for it, I found it enjoyable to play at least.
Definitely overhated
I recently had a movie game itch and when I played this for the first time on xbox 360. I actually liked it even though it had flaws like crazy 😂😂😂.
Allegedly Web of Shadows was a creative "do-over" from this game, although a different developer.
The combat in this game would have been Arkham before Arkham if there wasn't creative differences between the development team and Tomo Moriwaki.
Also you can't really dodge efficiently whilst moving plus it also barely works in the air when compared to dodging on ground
Also the black suit needed more in combat to feel truly unique during fighting. Sure there are several combos/moves exclusive to it but he still moves the same way regular Spidey would. The last gen version despite having worse combat had the right idea by making your attacks much faster than the regular suit own
The best thing about the SM3 game black suit is the rage mode taking away chunks of health, the different swinging animations and faster web zips and unique idle animations
I sent a screenshot of 38:00 to my friends and most of them thought I sent a screenshot of Doom 3
This game was so good and fun for me. People are just NPC who can't think for themselves and need assurance from the mass
PS3 verison Is better Than The PS2
23:30 RE4 stuff lol
where to emulate or play it on pc?
This is the only game that made me rage quit within 30 minutes. I couldn't make sense of the compass at all to find some rooftop thugs that I just gave up and sold my copy.
Oh damn! Hahaha
how does it runs so smooth to you? I get bit laggy, with some frame drops..
He is probably using a ps3 emulator, it's Hella laggy on the ps3 haha
@@everd121 i guess so, i tried on 3 different ps3 consoles, the result was never as smooth as the video phaha :D
Man if you were only making Spider-Man videos you would get do many views
More to come!
It's definitely the worst entry of the Raimi Spider-Man games, but there's something so endearing about it. It almost falls into the "so bad it's good" realm. I grew up with the PS2 version, which is slightly better than the PS3 version, and it has Morbius!
It’s like The Room of video games!
When your mom says come here for a sec 40:18
Biggest thing for me is that Spider-man look like a Xenomorph 😂
This game was rated m, right? Cuz there is DEFINITELY some brutal moments in the game
Nah. Still T.
