I think I like Kawai the most.

Certain recording conditions or showroom conditions will favour certain models. As always, Yamaha has the nicest treble notes IMO. Kawai seemed nicer on the lower mid notes. These Roland models are good for the price, but don't match the Kawai or Yamaha.

Don’t understand why the F701 and the RP701 were both included: they are the same piano, just in different cabinets, one minimalist and the other more traditional.

    • @mikiex

The deeper cabinet might mean the RP speakers sound better - but I can't confirm that.

@@mikiex Yes, according to Stu Harrison of Merriam Music there is a noticeable difference in that regard, and he’s the best for piano reviews. But I would have thought they would have said that, instead of reviewing them as if they were two completely different models, when everything except the cabinet is the same.

      @@mikiex 3:47 & 3:54,F701 sound is brighter , RP701 sound is fuller and richer.
F : Suitable for pop songs
      RP: Suitable for classical music

Yamaha sounds the worst, Roland I never liked them, Kawai is the only brand in the DPs that make me happy

Yamaha sounded like a person with a stuffed nose trying to speak, very unclear sound. The Rolands were ok with the rp701 being slightly better. Kawai is the winner hands down

I tried the F701 this week. Didn’t enjoy it much at all. A shame as it had a great price. I found the action spongy, the midsection notes pretty tiny and although the instrument looks stylish if you play with a book, the clearance between the stand and the keys is too little and you fear the book will fall onto the keyboard. Kawai and Yamaha are far better here in my view. Fab playing on this video, particularly the Schubert impromptu
