  • Used the Danco Next Perfect Seal wax ring. I like this wax ring because you are able to re position the toilet if needed. The job was very simple the hardest part is lifting it off and onto the flange. Basic hand tools is all you need to complete the job.

Thanks for the video. Good stuff. For anybody who is doing this - I would also suggest placing a cup into the pipe after you remove the toilet. It will keep the sewer gases from coming back up into your face. And trust me - you'll know it when it happens. If you're not going to be doing this all at once you'll want the cup in there. A Styrofoam cup or any plastic cup that's lying around in your car from the convenience store works great.

If you use the same seal (new) he used, does it help with sealing the top of the seal to the bottom of the toilet by putting a small amount - a light coat / layer of wax either on the area of the bowl where the seal makes contact, or on top of the seal? Debating on which seal to use

Used this to fix leaking 20 year old toilet in house with really messed up plumbing dating back to the 1930s. It sealed correctly and is still working fine. I will use this product again.
Watch a few different how-to videos first and read the instructions a couple of times BEFORE proceeding. It helps.

Just installing this now. There is a blue adapter that comes with the kit. If your flange is above or level with the floor, then you do not need the adapter. If however your flange is recessed or below the floor, then you should use the blue adapter. Mine is level, so no adapter.

How do you think this will work on an older lead flange? My flanges even with the ceramic tile may be slightly higher however, between the flange and the ceramic tile is the subfloor that has cracks in it so I laid some adhesive caulk in there, so that if there's a breach in the seal water wouldn't go down the cracks.

Put a little safe gasket grease or O ring grease on the grey seal and the toilet horn will slide in easy ..if not the grey seal can bend when the horn makes contact with the seal and get a improper flush seal...u can do it while you have the toilet on it side u can tell how easy it slides with grease vs without it

That's a good idea, but even better is to flush to empty 95% of the tank as you would anyway... Then get a bucket of water and dump quickly into the bowl. That will flush it and siphon 95% all the water from the bowl down the drain. Then vet vac both.

Another thing to change while you're at it: the infamous "one-time use" water valve. They work when installed (like when the house is built), then never work properly again, plus they weep around the handle shaft and corrode. Do yourself a big favor and buy a quarter-turn valve. They actually shut off the water when they need to.

David I noticed on video explained that the rubber flange is to be screwed down to the floor in centered position. I noticed in this video the seal is loose and shifting. I had both of my wax ring seals fail due to the fact the wax seal was bumped and shifted to one side and was seeping. One resulted in water on the floor after 2 years the second one about 8 months.

🚽Regarding those 2 white plastic washer-like pieces that were under the nuts holding the toilet to the flange ring/floor. You stated you did not know what they are called or why they were there. Towards the end, after you set the toilet, you re-installed them and the nuts onto the 2 mounting bolts (Johnni-bolts). Those plastic/nylon pieces are there for you to put the Johnni-bolt covers back over the bolt/nut that stick up - holding the toilet to the floor.
After putting the cap over the bolt - push hard straight down - and you will feel & hear the cap snap-lock onto the nylon washer. That's what keeps those covers in place. Of course in your case (video) - we never saw any caps - so either you or previous owner never bothered to install the caps in the first place.
Now you know what those nylon/plastic "washers" are for. 🚽 🙂

Their official video on this gasket set up says to remove that inner, black, round piece to allow the wax to set correctly. You didn't show that being done. Oddly enough, the instructions do not cover this as it did in their video though and neither did the instructions and photos on the box it was packaged in. This makes for an interesting question, as is it an unknown if that ring part needs to be removed or not when installing.

    • @a1930ford

I just picked up one of these new seals. Although it comes with its own Johnny bolts, I wouldn't recommend using them because they are plated steel and will rust/rot in time. Go to the hardware store and buy brass ones. Other than their bolts, this seal looks promising. I plan to use it in the future where a plumber gave me 2 wax rings instead of using a spacer or this product.
