On Tanneycomo ( my lake/river ) I drift / drag jerk baits adding a weight to that leader swivel to put the bait in the strike zone & it kills em in early spring.
I use the same setup I use both vmc & luhr jensen duolock snaps also prefer #4 rapala jointed shad rap especially as the weather warms & the fish go a bit deeper just my preference mag lips work in the same situation too & are starting to find their way into my arsenal

You still need to try the VMC snaps….trust me
