Red son is a very conflicted character. He cares a lot about his family and their goal, but also has immense passions like inventing and cooking. Despite what he says he also cares a lot for his friends.The fire of samadi used to be his and I would like to see an arc where he gains back that power and temporarily becomes the bad guy. This could see him fully embrace the good within him by mei reminding him of the lesson's he taught her.

I know people would argue that any of her friends would do it, but literally all of Mei's friends were trying to come up with the best plan to get her back while Red Sun just wanted her back already and was the first to jump to the crystal she was trapped and immediately activated his powers to get her out

LITERALLY after watching season 1 and thinking to myself "oh, these two have a lot in common because they both struggle to live up to their family's expectations, they should interact more!" and then Revenge of the Spider Queen hits me out of nowhere with Red Son being vulnerable about his feelings for two seconds with Mei?? And then me thinking, can we have some Mei vulnerability too?
AND THEN SEASON 3 BARRELROLLS into me with not only cute short moments but an ENTIRE ARC of Mei bearing the consequences of Wukong's and Macaque's actions- how it affects her, and Red Son BEING HER EMOTIONAL SUPPORT at her absolute lowest. They both have an undeniable understanding of each other, even though they've only known each other for a short while. Red Son understands what it is like to lose control over something as intense as the Samahdi Fire, and after closing herself off at first, Mei eventually lets him in with open arms when with all others she pushes away for fear of hurting them. She knows he can be there for her at her worst, and that level of trust is incredible.
Now, Mei is returning the favor by offering Red Son a chance at something he's never had- a real, open friendship. A relationship. She shows him the little things that make her happy, she doesn't hide the parts of her that he, at first, found overwhelming, and while Red Son calls her annoying constantly, he eventually finds her perpetual state of positivity endearing. Her love language is touch, obviously, and at the start, Red Son seems obviously opposed to the idea, but at the very end when she has an arm wrapped around him, he leans into her and seems comfortable and happy to do so! They are literally so good for each other, platonically or romantically.
ALSO LIKE-- the way he IMMEDIATELY RAN TO FREE HER the second he saw her trapped?? good LORD help me...... the way he takes her face and says "Don't you give up on ME, Dragon Girl!"
This demon is BEYOND smitten for her. They have such a deep connection at this point my god.
The only thing I would have liked to see from these two was, at the end, if Mei really sat down and thanked him for everything he did for her. I really want to see Mei take the time to process what Red Son means to HER. Hoping and praying in season 4, we will have a heartfelt moment like that.

I have to say that I LOVE the way the heroes in THIS show understand that sometimes heroes have to make hard choices. Sacrifices.
I get so _tired_ of stories where the heroes prioritize their own *idealism* over everything else, even if they know that loads of people are going to die for the sake of their ego.

I love how their connection isn’t perfect. They’re both flawed individuals. But they bring out the best in each other, and build each other up to be better people. It’s why they’re comfortable expressing their emotions to one another. It’s a lot more raw then other ships I’ve seen.
This has got to be one of my favorite ships. I mean, its one of the few canon ships that isnt just "main character x love interest" and in the category of the even rarer "anti hero x love interest" and it feels natural!

Mei was never a love interest. She's the childhood friend. Remember when MK said he met someone? Mei acts excited and interested in the possiblity that her friend found someone.
@@jaydraws0667 I think they meant that in most other stories Mei would have become MK’s love interest. She checks off the traits associated with many typically found in anime. Childhood friend to protagonist. Yup. Similar interests? Yeah. One of the few female main characters on the heroes’ side. That’s another. The term “Love Interest” by Awbluefy is more likely being used to describe what could have been her role in the cast, or what people would’ve expected her to be to MK (and to be fair even the show itself made a joke about it). I am glad and even relieved beyond belief though that the show went against the flow for Mei.
@@unigon794 me too, tbh. I think the idea of shipping Red Son and Mei is... kinda weird? Red Son is at least 500 years old, since he was born before DBK was trapped under a mountain. We're not sure how old Mei is, though I'd probably ballpark it in the teens to young adult range.
Beyond any of that, though, I'm not sure how romantic their relationship is. Seems currently they have something of a friendly rivalry, where they're friendly towards one another, but there's a good bit of tension as well.
@@cloverlucky5977 MK's age isn't confirmed but there are some sources that should be taken with a grain of salt saying he's a teenager, yet at the same time he was meant to be vague enough to be any-ish age according to the show's storyboard director. Not sure if this counts for anything, but minimum age to drive in China is 18 too (and MK said his first day off was after 2 years so he'd be about 20), assuming you want to have some estimate for Mei and MK. Then there's Red Son who isn't really immortal, with him being considered pretty young in demon terms if I remember JTTW correctly. So he could very well be counted as either teenager to young adult range himself.
Now relationships like between Mei and long-lived Red Son's are nothing new to fiction, but I can understand the discomfort surrounding it most of the time as they're executed poorly. What matters I think is no matter how many centuries one parter has lived they have to respect their partner and are aware of what they are. Despite being excitable and waking up to choose violence everyday lol, Mei knows what she wants, won't approve of (with a healthy network of friends who've got her back), and can look after herself well. Red Son despite his outbursts and having been an antagonist to MK's crew, does respect both Mei's abilities and boundaries (I think funny enough she actually breaks his most of the time with her hugs until the season finale). He's in no real position to take advantage of her either so we're good on that department. They can quarrel and poke fun, but they do end up supporting each other regardless of if they're romantic or platonic. At the end of the day I doubt the show will go in depth about it so either you like it or you don't, and that's totally fine.

All other points are legit, but I’ve not seen anyone comment on how they even went the extra mile with animating the “glomp so fast there’s a sonic boom” gag that usually just gets a blinking outline or other simple visual effect coding. Here they actually animated the contrail, the shattered debris, the air movement, etc.
They didn’t need to do any of that, but they did anyway. Respect to the whole crew for that.

Honestly MK and Mei are just amazing best friends! I mean get you someone like Mei that even if your evil clone puts her in a claw machine that could possibly lead to her doom and have all kinds of different dangers coming for her since she's close to him and still remaining this close!
I kind of want to go back and compare Mei’s interactions with MK VS Red Son. I couldn’t remember if she was as touchy feely with MK as she is with Red Son. Otherwise though I love their friendship and maybe eventual romance. We’ll see what season 4 brings.
That would be an interesting comparison to see, because it might give a little more insight on their relationship. Platonic or not, I do enjoy their interactions.
I do think Red Son might be the one to have the romantic feelings first, if things go that way.
For me it looks the same but she tease red son more than MK and Mie acts more a goof ball around him than MK between Mk and Mie idk why but mie is more responsible than MK she acts more a big sister like the racing competition
idk, being touchy-feely is pretty standard for Mei with her friends, especially MK. So it's safe to say she considers Red Son a friend at least
that last shot is much more telling for Red Son, though. No way in hell he'd let anyone else touch him like that, and he's SO comfortable with Mei's touch. Mei is also the very first person he called by name, who he recognized as his equal and more than just an ally, a friend. I also agree that if anyone were to catch feelings first, it'd be Red Son.

I would absolutely love for fire son to get the samadhi fire back after he becomes a more stable individual emotionally. (Since let’s be real, he’s still a hot head) I think it could be such a neat arc for him. For his new found friends to balance him out. Mei gets awesome dragon powers and fire son gets his birthright back. There would be so much potential for development from him that I’m hoping could come to pass in the event of a season 4

The end scene with mei and red son sittin Gn together caught me off guard. At first this ship made me think “oh that would be a cool ship, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen”. And then that makes me go djeualbfisbenb
Its interesting, the samati fire seems to be *most* of red son's powers, not all of it, as he retained enough to, you know, be firey. But Mei got the rest of it. Its pretty obvious why red son couldnt contain it, even as an adult he's still emotional. Mei being a dragon or whatever is more in tune with her emotions. Part of me wonders, if it was just three rings, would the samati fire have even gone out? Like monkey king had nowhere to direct the extra blast, so it went back in, would he still be on fire afterwards?
I got the feeling at this time he could contain and use it fine,he’s the one who taught mei and he was a baby when he had the fire
i think red son still has some. otherwise he would have been consumed when he stepped directly into it to save mei. remember how badly mk got scorched? red son doesn't even have a scratch. i think he either still has some embers or the fire somehow recognizes him and can't hurt him. i want to see an arc where he gets the fire back from mei, there are so many interesting paths they could take that story

Funny how he says the Samadhi Fire was their only chance at beating LBD, even though Wukong was evidently stronger than her and was absolutely ready to destroy her. He only didn't because he got possessed, and he held off of picking that route up until that point because he was looking for a way to beat her without killing the host.

Isn't the fire technically his power since, you know, it came from him? And I thought Mai was using only like 1/4th of the fire power anyway. Is the fire that powerful that even one of the four part could destroy the world or did Dragon of the West somehow absorbed all of it and passed to Mai?
The Dragon of the west absorbed 1/4 of the fire, attuning him to the energy of the other samadhi fire rings, since he was essentially a vessel for the fire. As his bloodline continued, every member of the main family passed it down to whoever their child was, until it was passed down to Mei.
In episode 10 of season 3, Macaque forced Tang to reforge the samadhi fire so he could be free of LBD's control, while using Mei as a hostage. Since she was the fourth vessel for the fire, and because she was at the centre of the reforging process, all the power of the samadhi fire went to her.
Also, Red Son was split from the samadhi fire way back and was only left with a small fraction of power, which is why he still has his pyrokinesis.

@@michasalamon8315 In Journey to the West, Red Son had been developing the Samadhi fire through years and years of constant training, yet the true fire of samadhi was still quite uncontrollable, but he could still use it effectively.
I think the Red Son of Lego Monkie Kid, if he were to absorb it, would probably lose control easier, since he doesn't have the sort of ancestral protection that Mei has.
But if he were to control the fire properly and attain a state of control, not unlike that of Mei at the end of this special, he would probably wreck house with it. He's already pretty good with his basic pyrokinesis, so the samadhi fire would be a major power boost, along with some universe ending capabilities.
