    Pertaining to the throttle sticking:
    My first car was a 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix, and I did A LOT of burnouts(power brake/smoke show). Rarely while doing a burnout, the throttle would stick. Luckily I always had the presence of mine to turn off the ignition key, killing the engine. The strange thing is, I could never find anything wrong afterword. I eventually figured out what was happening. That car had a solid rod style throttle linkage, kinda like your bike has. While doing a burnout, the engine would torque to the side a bit, and put that linkage into a bind. When I turned off the key, the engine would return back to its resting position, removing the tension from the throttle linkage and allowing it to release and return to the idle position.
    It doesn't seem like your motorcycle engine could really move around much(at least not like a 400ci V8 with worn rubber motor mounts), but maybe something(frame/forks) flexed enough to put a bind on your linkage.

    • @paulbrodie

    When Harry didnt run properly and the plus were wet it reminds me of my Laverda 750SF, every time I go to start it usually with a gap of a few weeks it will run on one cylinder and it can be either. I remove both plugs and heat them with a blow lamp, this works every time. I suspect its running a bit rich.

      Thank you Rui. I don't think mechanical failure. Several viewers have suggested that the carb iced up, but I find that hard to believe..

    Hay Paul, if you put little Brass Machine oil caps on the top of the housing for your Bevel gears, all you would have to do is lift up the little spring loaded cap and squirt some oil in without taking off the covers. same for the Magneto. Save you some time.
    Awesome bike, love all the old leavers and moving parts.

    Hi Paul. You look healthy and happier than ever. So it looks like you're on your way to full recovery. I have a close friend who went through chemo and everything and they came out on the other side 100%. So, if they can do it, you can do it too!
    Your Excelsior is a real animal! Glad to see it run again, which is a good omen for you. And the more I see it, the more I think Bud Ekins may have had one in the piles of bikes he had stashed at his place. I took a bunch of photos at one point - but not every time I visited - so I'm going to have to dig them up and see if Bud had an Excelsior. He had just about every old bike you can think of, so he may have had one of these too. Keep getting better, and keep up the good work!

    • @paulbrodie
      @paulbrodie  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the great comments. Appreciate it! Bud may have had an old Excelsior, but the chances it was an OHC model are very, very small. I believe the factory only made four OHC models.

    Hahahaha 😆 Only Paul, but the look on your face when it fired up proper, such genuine happiness. Modern motors might be simpler to just start, but they don't look as nice and to know this w as all done without computers and by hand, fantastic. Glad you're getting up and about some now Paul, good luck with finishing the treatments.

    She sounds like a fast bike - hope you can get back on her soon! If you are going to machine everything you could look at 3D scanning the carburettor, that way you can allow for the shrinkage and make the patterns oversize to suit.
