- A recent trip to the Greek Island of Lesvos to witness and photograph the spring bird migration. Travelling light the Sony A1 and FE 200-600mm f5.6-f6.3 really came into their own.
A big thank you to my birding buddy and Lesvos Guide Neil Cowley!

It's looking a great place Phil... thanks again.
Hi Phil . Beautiful picture and scenery , have a good shot and enjoy your vacation
Thank you Phil; much needed in Greece.
My pleasure Stamatis.
The colouring of the bee eater is gorg 😍
It is a real beauty Mol
Nice video Phil. Sweet memories for me 👍👍
My pleasure Onno
Beautiful video and pictures, Phil. Great shots of the Bearded Reedling, a bird I never saw on Lesvos in the ten years we visited the island. We met one day along Tsiknias River, where you were observing a Spur-winged Lapwing. I had reported the bird in the app.
Yes I remember meeting. You did well that day. Thanks for watching and maybe see you Lesvos again one day.
Great video and some amazing shots!
Thank you Shaun. I love getting feedback from fellow RUclipsrs!!
Great video Phil
Thank you for looking Dave
Really nice video Phil. Glad I stumbled upon your channel. I’ve always wanted
to go birding on Lesvos, deffo a bucket list destination. Looks as beautiful and as full of birds as the other Greek islands I’ve been to. The bee-eater flight shots 👌🏻 especially the one at 4:20 ish but my favorite images in the video are the Bearded Tit shots! Brilliant! All the best mate, Andy.
Cheers Andy very kind. I'm heading off to Lesvos as we speak.😁
@@philgowerbirdphotography Fabulous! Have a safe trip and a great time.
Excelente vídeo!
Phil you’ve done it again, this is a major revelation for me a some stunning captures👍 Fabulous Phil.👍
Thank you David. Lesvos is a wonderful place.
Beautiful shots, and I am pretty sure locally on a computer they look even more beautiful and detailed.
Thank you for spending the time, putting into the work and share all of that.
My pleasure Fb and you're about the image quality locally.
Great video Phil. Well done. Looks like a fab location.
Excellent video and photos, Phil! The majority of those birds would be lifers for me. I'm jealous! Safe travels!
Thanks Rick…as they were for me!
Excellent pictures and video. Thank you very much for this. I just dont think the white stork is a carcharias😄.
Thanks for watching and pointing our my error. Of course it's a White Stork (Ciconia ciconia) and not a White Shark ( had a word with my researcher just now and told her I don't care if she's my daughter, she's still grounded!) 😀
@@philgowerbirdphotography Thank you again for your beautiful pictures and for showing my country's (Greece) avifauna.
Could you tell me what month you visited please? Although I’d like to go earlier in the year I think I’d be there in early 2nd week of June so want to know what birds to expect. Many thanks and superb captures.
All the breeding birds will be there but not the birds migrating through. Best time would be last 2 weeks of April and first two weeks of May.
@@philgowerbirdphotography Thank you for the prompt reply. Earliest package deal is 26th May so I’ll settle for the breeding birds 😊
Some great shots Phil and a good variety of species. I live on Corfu and there are few different breeds, unfortunately hunting birds here is a tradition so I don't think they have been able to form large colonies over the years, they are only supposed to shoot certain ones but they don't stick to those rules I am afraid.
I think/hope the Mediterranean hunting culture is changing for the better. I took quite a few more species but just haven’t had the time to process all the shots. Great place Lesvos.👍
