- VALLETTA MALTA | A walk through Valletta, the capital city of Malta
Valletta is the tiny and beautiful capital city of Malta so when we had a trip to the island we just had to have a wander around the streets to see what Valletta is like. Filmed in HLG HDR.
I love Valletta. It has everything you could wish for when travelling to Malta. Lovely beautiful buildings, amazing streets, fantastic architecture and superb hotels, restaurants and shops!
Valletta is the heart of tourism here in Malta and has so much to offer you if you're on a holiday or a trip here and it's easy to get lost in the stunning streets of this beautiful city.
It's been a while since I last went to Malta so I flew there from Manchester Airport recently, touched down at Malta International Airport and the first place I headed to is Valletta. It's right up there as one of my favourite cities and if you're looking for things to do in Malta then a Valletta Tour has to be one of the must do days out.
Valletta (or Il-Belt) is the tiny capital of the Mediterranean island nation of Malta. The walled city was established in the 1500s on a peninsula by the Knights of St. John, a Roman Catholic order. It’s known for museums, palaces and grand churches. Baroque landmarks include St. John’s Co-Cathedral
Valletta, The Fortress City, Citta’ Umilissima, “A city built by gentlemen for gentlemen”. These are some of the names given to Malta’s capital city: a living, working city, the administrative and commercial heart of the Islands.
Valletta is named after its founder, the respected Grand Master of the Order of St. John, Jean Parisot de la Valette. The magnificent fortress city grew on the arid rock of Mount Sceberras peninsula, which rises steeply from two deep harbours, Marsamxett and Grand Harbour.
Started in 1566, Valletta with its impressive bastions, forts and cathedral, was completed in the astonishingly short time of 15 years.Valletta has many titles, all recalling its rich historical past. It is the “modern” city built by the Knights of St John; a masterpiece of the Baroque; a European Art City and a World Heritage City. Today, it is one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world.
The city is busy by day, yet retains a timeless atmosphere. The grid of narrow streets boasts some of Europe’s finest art works, churches and palaces.
Hosting a vast cultural programme, walking around Valletta you’ll come across an intriguing historical site around every corner: votive statues, niches, fountains and coats of arms high up on parapets. Narrow side streets are full of tiny quaint shops and cafés, while Valletta’s main streets are lined with larger international branded shops for fashion, music, jewellery and much more.
I hope you enjoyed this Valletta Walking Tour and hope that it has inspired you to visit Malta!

visited Popeye Twice the even made a little film of us when I was there
Thank you so much to share a beautiful city tour of Valletta ( Malta) god bless you. Take care.
Spent three wonderful holidays in Malta many years ago. Stayed at the (old ) Fortina Hotel.Always meant to go back but fate intervened. Still, many happy memories to look back on. Thank you Malta.
Malta is amazing isn't it
I love Valletta, I’m coming back in September on holiday, my dad was from Floriana, my mum from England, so lm very proud to be half Maltese!, thanks for the video, it was great, I’ll be walking those streets in a few months, grazzi hafna hbieb! 🤗
You are going to have a great time! Floriana is also a very beautiful and less touristic.
Hii
We have been to Malta several times and absolutely loved it. We still have friends their. The people are so friendly and the views/scenery/beaches are gorgeous. I would encourage anyone to go and take a really good look around.
I loved Malta/ Valletta. And I miss it, watching your video. Very nice.
Valletta has changed since I lived there in the fifties. I love what they have done to the old bus station. Now a stunning pallatzo. The triton fountain is particularly nice. Instead of cars, lorries and horse drawn vehicles on the streets, it is now pedestrian friendly.
This is so diffrent to how I remember. I'm sure outside the gates was the bus station with all the yellow buses. Very bustling. The streets look brighter. It looks like someone has jet washed everything
I was last in Malta 45 years ago so have found Malta seen from film, almost unrecognisable from then. I recall a small flower kiosk in Valletta's main Street from where I sent my mum and dad a bouquet of flowers for their wedding anniversary. I got to know Malta and the other islands very well and hold fond and happy memories that will be with me forever.
This has to be one of the best videos showing Valetta in pure clear High Definition, great job well done.
Thank you! 😊
and living here is great, relaxing, nice weather, great food and drinks, i am not Maltese but I feel so much at home here, and it is truly one of the safest countries on earth
Such a great place!
Enjoyed the tour of valleta very much, what a beautiful very old place with fantastic buildings, thank you for sharing.Barbara from Liverpool.
l
Thank you so much!
I need to film Liverpool soon!
U lived in Malta for four months in 1979. I enjoyed seeing familiar sites and new ones in your excellent video. Thanks!
I lived in Gozo, Malta for 14 months, and often visited Valletta. I will definitely visit again, but meanwhile, thanks for the memories!
You're welcome - thank you so much for watching my channel
Hope you are safe and well ❤️
Great simple walk, real sound and no tourist-selfies. Just some interesting info added on screen -perfect!
Thank you 🙏
I went to Malta in the 90's when the old diesel buses were still in use. Valetta has changed since then and looks great! Thanks for posting this!
Our pleasure!
Valletta looks amazing day/night. But especially during night when there are less people there.
I was not prepared for the architecture it is stunning. Great video as always.
Same here i was blown away
Great video once again . I went in 1999 from St Pauls bay near Buggiba . They were filming the Gladiator with Russell Crowe and Oliver Reed . We used to walk past they Valletta tavern where they got merry every night . We used the old rickety buses which were brilliant . I think they have been de commissioned now . Amazing city with Knights Templar connections …
Ah amazing - that sounds incredible!
Thank you first class video well done ! Always wanted to see Malta👍
Thank you so much Brian!
Thank you for making this video.
My pleasure!
Beautiful video my friend. At first I thought that the Parliament building had sustained damage on its sides, it was only after you went closer that I realized it was designed like that. Truly remarkable.
Valletta beautiful city nice to look back,
Shes a beauty isnt she!
Very nice video.. Just wow 👌👌
Great video! My Father is of a Maltese background living in UK & also enjoyed the update on Valletta

I just love the Maltese people so friendly and hospitable, Iv'e flown to Malta and then got the ferry to beautiful Gozo the Maltese Island for my holiday but never stopped off in Malta itself from your video it looks very similar to Gozo and very nice.👍
I will visit this beautiful country one day, inshallah ❤️
Fantastic video, valetta is a nice & clean heritage city, but trees are very rare
I'm half Maltese. Great video it reminds of the wonderful memories I shared their with my family. I live in England, but would love to go back to Malta!!!! Amazing scenery and arctureiture.
It's such a great country isnt it - so friendly too!
It’s interesting that I found out that I am half Maltese. My great grandfather from Pachino Sicily where many Maltese migrated is half Maltese and Algerian. I thought he was fully Sicilian. This is according to my dna test and research.
What an amazing walk. The architecture is stunning as is the place. Thank you for taking me there. Keep on walking 👍😎❤️
Thank you, I will
I am planning to go now that I’ve watched your video I’ve got to see loads of places to visit can’t wait to go this August.

Thank you - some crackers on the way!
Brilliant guided tour, this brought back memories of when my family and I visited Malta some years ago.
Thank you - lovely place eh!
Beautiful, and clean and tidy..i want to visit ftom the UK
As both my parents were born in Malta ( B’Kara) & later moved to Australia, during my childhood l was fortunate to visit often for 3 mths at a time! Later on l lived and worked there for 2 and a half years! Your walk through Valletta brought back so many memories! I recognised the old balconies and shop fronts ( Wembley store, Cordina’s) and more! I was impressed by the new features also.
Thank you so much for sharing!
Please walk through villages B’Kara, Sliema & Mosta
To go back to Malta would be very emotional as l lost my Nannu Michael/Kelinu & my uncle Richie two people l loved most! Who knows one day?
Enjoy your stay, Mick. I was born in Hamrun not far from Floriana, have fun...
Thank you for a really beautiful video. I particularly like that you give us enough time to really look at the scenes and to appreciate the architecture--and that you keep the camera so steady!
I visited Malta about 25 years ago, unfortunately in the winter, when we got very stormy weather, and of course short and dark days, which made sightseeing and photography a little difficult. I would have loved to visit again--I imagine the spring and fall must be beautiful--but couldn't. I'm glad I did see it. Was on a package tour, staying in Sliema, and would prefer to stay in Valletta to avoid spending time commuting in and out. Took a lot of local buses to the magnificent archaeological sites, and to Mdina (beautiful).
One comment: when I visited, to the right as you entered the old city, there was an area of ruins--I think from WW II bombing--that looked like an ancient archaeological site, with broken columns. The buildings must have been of classical design. The Parliament Building must be standing in that area? It looks splendid, but I rather mourn the old and historic ruins.
Anyway, I recommend Malta to anyone interested in history, prehistory, architecture, scenery ...
Thank you so much
So sorry to hear that you only experienced a rainy Malta - you should definitely go again!
Yes, been to Malta - was a British Colony until er ... 1964(?) thats why the pillars boxes and red telephone boxes !! 👍💯✔
I just loved the box windows, or are they just enclosed balconies ?? A lovely place, I would love to live there for a while (need lottery win first 😁)
Thanks for the trip, Gimbal, keep em coming 💯👍🤩
Thank you!
The balconies are just great - very photogenic!
Another excellent tour, thank you
Our pleasure!
Excellent video loads of happy memories in there walking around Valletta.👍
Many thanks! Lovely place isn't it!
@@GimbalWalkTV fantastic place
Loved Malta used to go every month when i was working in Tripoli after that place Malta was a peice of heaven on earth
Oh yes
Thank you: I lived in Malta as a child and it made a huge impression on me: the sound of the trilling canary brought back memories. If you re-edit this video, maybe mention the palace on the right as you walk through St George's Square: the old Grand Masters' Palace when the Order of St John ruled from 1530-1798. Also, a view of the Grand Harbour from the Baracca Gardens would have helped put the city in more context. Material for a second walk? But, a lovely walk around a super clean city.
I love Malta love from nepal
Looks a very nice place to visit . I would love to visit the Valletta FC museum . A very historical & interesting city . Enjoyed the video .
Thank you. Memories of a wonderful time spent there.
Our pleasure!
Love
😀awesome mate ! the next video I picked is where my family are from lol ! thankyou
Love the British phone and post boxes, I've not been there for 40 years, and it's certainly changed.
Greetings from Malta!
Really enjoyed your coverage of valleta.I worked there about 30 years ago where I would catch a bus from Sliema to valleta and then on to vittoriosa ,great memories for me ,so it was great to see your video of how this fantastic city looks so many years on,I really enjoy the other videos which you record as well 👍
Fantastic stuff - thank you so much for watching my channel!
Congratulations for your national holiday on 21st September Malta from your friends in Germany
Thank you! 😃

Railly Beautiful City
Valetta looks lovely. I envy you being there!
Its amazing yeah! Definitely worth a visit
I was here on business a few years ago, staying at the "Grand Hotel Excelsior" and didn't get to see as much of Valletta as I would have liked. The bus station where you began is actually in the district of Floriana, and they were repaving it when I was there so a reel mess, not until you cross the bridge are you in Valletta proper. Nice video. I must get back to Malta soon. English influences are everywhere what with the post and phone boxes and English is spoken so widely so no language problems!!!
Gees I really hope you show us so much more. So much history in such a tiny land dating back so far. Please show some of the ancient temples and I do hope you get to Gozo as well. Thank you so much.
I love Malta. I miss it so much with the pandemic we have had. Not been able to go anywhere. I really love the people in Malta. They are so friendly and kind and their food is amazing. I want to go back for a few wks. As I miss it so much
Well said - great country and great people!
Believe it or not I’m here right now, in Malta. visited many of the places that you went to especially the last place, literally yesterday.
Amazing
I bet it’s hot there right now?
@@GimbalWalkTV it’s been actually pretty chilly last couple of days, hoping it warms up.
Beautifull
Very
Really enjoyed the vlog my father was stationed in Malta during the war and my wife and I hope you film more of the island we also enjoy watching the film Malta story thankyou and take care
Thank you so much. Hope you are safe and well
Looks a very nice place to visit . Would love to visit the Valletta FC museum . One day I hope to .
Lovely, having never been to Malta it’s lovely to be able to have a guided tour. I was surprised to see some of our British shops like Matalan and Peacocks….loved it Thank you 😊
Yes I was shocked to see those shops too!
Very strange seeing a peacocks in a really old historic building!
We were there 4 weeks ago and it's a beautiful city with great views across the Grand Harbour from the Upper Barracka Gardens.
It really is!
Lovely
❤️❤️
Today i will go Valletta. Your video inspired me 🙂
Amazing! You will love it ❤️
@@GimbalWalkTV i went today. They settled frame in Valletta gate
Have been there : excellent video. Surprisingly hilly place. I seem to remember a taxi service of anywhere within the old town for 2 euros (but that was a few years ago)
Yes the hills caught me out a couple of times - especially coming from the ferry from Sliema!
My dream country
The parliament building was designed by renzo piano. I actually live in Floriana so only a 5-minute walk to Valletta. And I find myself watching your video 😜
I love malta
Great place!
Wow it so fix up now ! Wish they left everything the way it was ! 🇨🇦❤️🙏
Hi,went to Malta many years ago I loved it a place
Called Buggiba not sure if it’s spelt right great 😀😀😀😀
Ha yes that’s the correct spelling - I stayed in Bugibba a few years ago too!
It’s been a few yrs since I went home ,there has been a lot of changes done, love all of it except what they did to the entrance to Valletta, the old entrance was part of our Island history they should off just did some repairs that needed to be done and left the ORIGINAL ENTRANCE.SAME THING WITH THE OPERA HOUSE what they did is erase part of Valletta’s history.
I visited Malta back in late '90s, I think, and remember the ruins at the entrance to the city--a lot of bomb damage from WW II, if I remember aright. Very moving and dramatic sight--a bit like visiting the Acropolis in Athens, on a smaller scale, but sense of what happens in the past.
I was here in 2014 and the food is amazing, try the speciality Rabbit Stew its super delicious.
Oh yes!
I'm coming to Valetta for two weeks in late November. I hope its not too cold
Served two years there from 1958 to 1960 and holiday,a couple of times. The original Baacca lift was quite scary and and you paid a young kid one old penny to reach Baracca gardens and the city and it was made of mecano style lattices steel and quite open.No good if you dont like heights.
Malta is beautiful its the present people running it that staff Malta up I visited Malta every 2 years from 1972 till 2018 and until such time things change I cannot see myself there
I don't know about this - Who's running it?
In what time of the year you filmed this my friend? My wife hates hot weather. So this time looks perfect for an visti!
Was winter - think it was February
@GimbalWalkTV Perfekt. Thanks.
Good
Thank you 🔥
A beautiful Valleta Malta, its very quiet and not too much of people
u really love it i wish i cud see it personally
The bridge at 4:07 used to carry the railway line into Valletta.
Where else should we film? Tell us somewhere to go and we will!
Medina?
Sliema? Hope spelt right.
@@jennifertonks4311 Sliema yeah! Stand by - got some great ones from there!
@@jennifertonks4311 Oh yes - coming up!
@@GimbalWalkTV Lovely,look forward to it.
Can’t wait to visit my beautiful country Malta it’s been six years 🌹🙏❤️🌹❤️🌹🌹
Hope you get there soon and have a great time!
Thanks for the video. What street is the Valletta F.C. museum in? I can see it's next to 125.
Wao ❤️
Nice
❤️❤️
All your videos are with music, what haven't Valletta hasn't any? A suggestion of music Baroque Style. Good Job as usual and keep it up :)
Thank you Joseph
I try and use natural sound these days
nice
So nice!
This is a really interesting video...do you know why Green is the featured colour for most of the buildings? Ie Greek Islands favour Blue
Wow I'd not even spotted that till you mentioned it!
I'm going to have to try and find out now!
Actually I looked it up and there is, green paint was used by the British navy to paint the ships, and as a result a large amount of green paint ended up in the market, probably sold for a cheap price.
@@mastermaltese8731 Thanks Rosey, that makes sense.I think that green
paint made its way to a lot of things in the UK like cars for instance. My husband had a Jag in the old days which was 'British Racing Green.'🤣
💙
great video to watch bet one on youtube thank you
Thank you 🙏
Yes I want to come to Malta, how much it cost????
You will need to check with travel agent
Lovely city. That’s where a lot of P&O cruise sail from to the do the med cruises
Oh I wonder if P&O will still go there after their recent issues?
@@GimbalWalkTV didn’t know they had any issues 🤔. Do you mean the ferries? They are two completely separate companies and P&O cruises are very much alive and kicking 😄. All their med cruises depart from Valletta especially the Azura
@@louised4260 Ah didn't know they were separate companies - how confusing!
Which is the main language in Malta? Can tourists use USD?
English and Maltese
Not sure on USD
Could you tell me average salaried person can survive there , am planning to migrate to malta in July or August .
Hi Charles,
For that - check out the amazing Alex In Malta channel - he covers all of this really well!

Inshallah I'll come to malta it is my dream country pray for me.
Is there any one can be help?
I want to come malta. I'm a Bangladeshi person.
I. Have been to Malta 3 times I was born there in a place called kalkara very beautiful the only thing I don’t like is Malta is starting to lose its old charm by going all high rise appartments not that I blame them as it’s the only way they can go a lot more people would visit more but the exchange rate to the Aussie dollar is very high
