As a practicing artist for the last 45 years I have morphed through several creative media, now for the last 10 or so years I am a wood sculptor. For me the path is all about awareness. Self awareness, environment awareness, cultural awareness, spiritual awareness. Now at 66, most of any of my care of what others expect or think of me has melted away and my true self can flow creatively into my work. Do what works for you and never stop creating.
Really enjoyed your experiences. I haven't heard of this book, I also never get much time to read but look forward to seeing you in your next episode . Love from an artist 😊
I love this video! A tattoo artist friend of mine bought me the book years ago and I finally cracked it open yesterday. I am in the same boat with you when it comes to the godly aspects; I wish it was something that wasn't hammered into the book. For me, I think the artist dates will be a time for me to heal my inner child. I loved to make crafts and just create whatever but as I aged I noticed my art ended up having to have meaning or be of value to sell. I think it will be something I focus on.
Thank you Tia for watching, I'm glad you liked it. I think you are spot on about nurturing the inner child. It's a thing we come to believe as adults that everything, even our art, must have some output or value beyond just the joy of doing it. I hope you found your sense of play and have fun making cool things!!
I completely agree with you on the godly stuff. I find myself zoning out during those parts of the book. Instead, I tell myself that creativity is shared human nature and that instinct is running through me.
To many, who aren't religious..but instead spiritual...they see "god" as the creative, the connection, the beauty, the inspiration, and not as a sullied human interpretation of a limited human projection. It is the expansiveness and more. It is the thing inside that stirs awe at a sunset or mountain..and all that. You can interpret it whatever way you want, and question and divorce any other "meanings" of god. That word can be very triggering, due to the religious entities, domination, restrictions, control. But as a self defining person, you get to decide whatever that energy, positive thing, is called.
For the godly aspect, I want to remind people, reading, the comments here, that the book's introduction talks about the concept of God. She clearly says, and I quote: 'Remind yourself that to succeed in this course, no god concept is necessary.' And then, on the next paragraph: 'When the word God is used in these pages, you may substitute the thought good orderly direction or flow. What we are talking about is a creative energy.'
Thanks for watching, Zach :)Would definitely recommend if you're feeling stuck or uninspired creatively. It can be a very insightful and fun process. You can also do it with friends, if you don't want to fly solo!
Hey Paul, you seem to be a natural story teller through video/moving images/ moving frames, and I am not saying that just because I am a filmmaker! Thank you for sharing your journey so far. It was wonderful, and inspiring. Oh, and great choice in yoga guide! And as for the God stuff, I get you. But I had to ask myself, “where does all of the magic and wonder come from then?” I think that may be another area inside that needs working through too. We’re getting there! Wishing you awesome, personal, and creative discoveries on your unfolding journey!
Thank you Nickolet! I really appreciate you watching and stopping by to say hello. Adrienne is the best 😃 And I totally agree about the source of magic and wonder - the universe has some bigger energy going on that we get to tune into. Wishing all the bets with your filmmaking and adventures in life 😊
Hi Paul, thanks for sharing, love the video! Yes, you are funny!!😄 I’m just starting it again after 20 years when I miserably failed, going clubbing interfered with having any discipline 😅 Wish me luck!
Thanks for watching, Alex! Yeah I can see how clubbing would get in the way :) Good luck with it this time - whatever you get from it I'm sure it will be worthwhile
Over the years I have had a couple of goes at doing the Artists way .... 3rd time lucky hahahhaha As I am supposed to do the Artist's date by myself , I did find that bit tricky and got so feed up with the "moaning" in the morning pages I got over myself hahahahha ...OK I will give it all another go!
Very interesting video Paul. Not been to your channel before. Thanks! My copy is arriving today apparently. I've ordered the special version for the retired ('cos I'm an old fogey). I paint, I draw, I always have since boyhood, but am currently wondering why. I seem to be in a rut right now, but I am hearing that this has helped a few to climb out of such things. I not religious but I think something is going on, so switching out 'God' for 'Universe' I'm ok with. Will I do it? Perhaps I'll report back here, eh?
I hope your copy arrived! It is inspiring that you have kept drawing and painting since you were a boy - clearly there's something important going on there. I definitely found the AW helped reignite things for me creatively, and I'm sure you will discover things too. I suspect the universe is on our side and is sending us what we need to create in the way that lights us up. Good luck!
Thank you!!! I hope this will be a good challenge for me. In any case, I'll be doing more of the (for me) fun or useful parts. I'll post some vlogs about my journey in my youtube channel. Stay in touch!
I’ve started with the morning pages a few days ago, I know that the book says to discipline yourself with the morning pages but I’ve missed 2 days now, do I continue as if I didn’t miss them or should I start from the beginning? I’m not sure I kinda dont want to be too harsh on myself but I also I want to follow what the book suggests as best practice, what do you think?
Don't beat yourself up for missing a couple of days! I get the urge to want to follow best practice, but continuing to show up is what matters. It's all part of the process. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your experience! Really motivating me to get started with this book I’ve been holding onto! Thank you 🙏🏻
Really enjoyed your experiences. I haven't heard of this book, I also never get much time to read but look forward to seeing you in your next episode . Love from an artist 😊
Thanks for watching, Julie. All the best with your art! 😊

She does say in the book to not get caught in the semantics of the word God.

I'll have to check that book out! Never heard of it! Sounds like a good experiment for artists!! Thanks for sharing the first part of your experience!
Thanks for watching, Zach :)Would definitely recommend if you're feeling stuck or uninspired creatively. It can be a very insightful and fun process. You can also do it with friends, if you don't want to fly solo!

I love your aproach to the Artist way as a creative energy rather than God.

This was really great! Thanks!
You're very welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
The God stuff has continued to be a block for me. I can relate to the morning pages and the artist date.
I'm glad you got something out of it, Liz-Anna. All we can do is take what's useful and leave the rest!
I'm going to start this on good Friday 😅 I wont mind the woo woo bits
Good luck, Maria. I hope you enjoy your journey!

Good luck with it! If it feels useful and inspiring then it's the right time, and if not yet then that's okay too 😃

I started it last week, but I’m turned off my the god thing. Gonna press forward.
Yeah that pushed my buttons too at times. Good luck!
I replaced the word God by something else. You can use whatever word that would make sense to you.
Update, please!
I want to start my own artist way next week. Let's see what happens
Good luck with it and have FUN!

Just continue it. It's part of the process, don't worry about it being perfect.

When you started to play the drums … I heard Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean bass line in my head.
Now that's a good groove - I'll take that! :)
Did you use her book or her workbook?
Her book, the 2020 edition :)
And yoga is prayer to Hindu deities-choose one god or many, its up to you. Just understand the origins/realities of your practices.
