I love all the KOF XIII Neomax Supers purely for their ear-shattering sound effects. These feel like KILLER moves with how much damage they deal in a few seconds!

In terms of short supers, I might be biased here, but Necro’s Electric Snake is one of my favorites. At least it can turn into a short cutscene combo after getting the stun 🤣

My solution to shortening cinematic supers is having a special motion input or button combination that just gives you the shorter version of the super. So, the power is always in the hands of the attacking player to choose if they wanna see the full animation or the short one. This would also be useful for 2 things:
    - style. It would be meaningful if specific players prefer to always the full animations or always skip it. It'd also then be meaningful if they then change their preference for a specific match to make a statement.
    - the attacking player can choose if they need a longer breather to get back into the match or if they're hyped up and wanna keep playing even sooner!

I like that. I'm a cutscene enjoyer. Especially since fighting games seems to bring out something special in the artists involved. Just murdering almost an entire genre of animations for "I don't want to wait 3 seconds" reasons is a huge shame
But I can also get why you'd want to skip some. This seems like a good compromise.

      This is cool AF.
Also imagine being the defending player, not knowing if they have to get back into it quickly or for a longer period of time

My favorite super is kosaku kawajiri's super in jojo asbr, it is a LONG super, but i feel its worth it, the reference the super makes is spot on, plus, it makes the timer go back 20 seconds and you won't usually see it due to it's range being kind of stubby

I think the SF6 critical art argument was more about how you’re comparing KOF Level 1 supers even though there’s a good reason for why they were made that way. If there’s a system that allows you to throw out stronger attacks by spending more resources, then the attacks should leave more of an impact, which might mean making them longer.
That being said, I think you can still have short and sweet level 3 supers. MvC3 does a great job with this.

10:20 There is actually one instance (that I know of at least) where the player has control over the short or long version of the super. In Skullgirls, Valentine can choose to skip the cinematic in her lvl.3 super if she (the Valentine player) holds down 3 punches.
A rather neat and elegant solution that offers the best of both worlds, and I'd love to see it in pretty much every fighting game out there.

the fact that the long animation distrupt the flow of the match I have always seen as a positive since breaking an opponents rhythm is my favorite thing to do

I love all counter supers, props to Anji's Kachou Fuugetsu and Jin/Hakumen's big iai slashes. I'm the guy who chooses Blue Nocturne >:]

My favorite short supers are Aoko's Severe Break Slider from Melty Blood. Who needs drip when you fire lasers out of your feet and have mastery over time (though her hair serves as a highlight to add flair to the design). The second is Iori's Yatagarasu form KOF XIII/XIV. The screen going black to highlight the visceral impact of the move sells it.

Super Special Moves in Samurai Shodown 2017 are pretty cool since it's a one time use per game and have a long start up so the long animation is a reward. Good example is Shizumaru.

Rasetsumaru (Samurai Shodown V/VSP/VI) has one of my favorite supers with his Weapon Flip: Tenha Dankuu Retsu Zan. Bust Haohmaru also has this in Samurai Shodown III and IV.

While I'm cool with long Supers, I feel like a having the long cinematics be at the end of a fight could be a good middle ground of sorts for people who aren't a fan of long Supers. BlazBlue's Astral Finishes are perfect for what I mean, because they can only be hit on the winning round on an opponent with low health

I'd like to bring up Jin and Hakumen's Kokuujin: Yukikaze/Empty Sky Form: Winter's Riposte, which I still consider the gold standard for counter supers. Juuuuust long enough for the opponent to realize that they got predictable, but never overstaying their welcome.

Im curious if this is valid but, Kazuya's Rage Drive in Tekken 7, Heavens door? Theres just something so satisfying about this evil bastard gripping your opponents face, slowing down mid air, and dunking that scratches my monkey brain something fierce. Bonus points for having it have a sweet spot in the corner for extra damage. Tekken 8 has it too, but the falling karate chop pales in comparison to the dunk.

Killer Instinct doesn't have "supers" but instead just a bunch of EX moves that have a super flash. They fall into the same comment you made about GG's supers being that they can be interacted with after the flash. They change how both players interact with the combo/combo breaker system making them . They also allow a brief uninterrupted combo if used as a combo starter/reversal.

It’s also worth mentioning that the “supers” in the game are really short both fulgore’s and omen’s supers are really short..
…Then shadow jago completely breaks this rule

I'm surprised Skullgirls got so little screentime in the last video and none at all in this one. Robo Fortune's *Magnetic Trap,* Annie's *Pillar of Creation,* Peacock's *Goodfellows...* That's not even mentioning ones with more interactivity after the super flash, like Gravity Slingshot on oki or basically anything that you can do with Lonesome Lenny.
Blazblue is another franchise I'd like to nominate for good short supers. Really it's nothing new compared to Guilty Gear but *Gensenic Emerald Tager Buster* unlocks something in me. Other shoutouts to Hakumen's *Yukikaze,* Ragna's *Carnage Scissors,* and Terumi's *Serpent's Cursed Sting.* Really in that game even the instakills are fairly short and sweet sometimes. It's admirable.

No problem. Both songs are from Melty Blood: Type Lumina OST (composer Raito)
      1. Midday Coincidence
      2. Summer Sky
If you like this stuff, I highly recommend checking out the original Melty Blood OST along with the Under Night In-Birth 2 OST (same composer).
