I had to watch this A LOT, because Stefan is really easy on the eyes. I think if he were in my yard, who would care if there was a walkway! This is a handy video as well.
Very good work. I did stonework for 45 years and you're doing it right. You might try cutting an eighth inch line on the stone and then use a 2 inch serrated chisel to break it off. Remove the saw line with a sharp three quarter inch chisel. It's labor intensive but the results speak for themselves.
Awesome man,I'm gonna do my first flagstone walkway and this is a great video,i am excited to do it myself thank's,you guys make it look like a piece of cake,no more school fees or anything like that.
You can use a polymer sand to spread into the joints. It will harden and deter weed growth. With that said; weeds will bust through concrete to reach daylight if they need to, so keeping a spray jug of Round Up around is effective for mainteneance as well.
If you want to go natural, a solution of vinegar, salt and water sprayed into joints kills them dead. Roundup is linked to cancer, be careful using it.
This was such a good video but the only thing that's a bummer is that I'm realizing just how much work this is going to be for me! :( I knew it would be, but ugh. Just can't afford to hire someone right now. I wish I could just drive over there and watch you do this in action. I feel like seeing it in person would be the difference between my thinking about doing it and my actually doing it! Thank you!
BTW - It’s not called ‘ sod ‘ it’s called ‘ turf ‘ ! Also it is not ‘ dirt ‘ it’s called ‘ soil ‘ ! ( dirt is something entirely different my friend ! ) Good job from 🇬🇧 👍
Good video, very informative. One suggestion for future videos, the camera man was very shaky. Either they lay off the caffeine or get a tripod. Lol Keep up the good work.
Great Video! I wish you show a little bit more the Materials, where you get it, the Gravelbags (are they from the HomeDepot?) but thats a great Video!! Thanks
What about landscape fabric? I was going to lay the paver stone, then leveling sand, then the fabric then the stone then mulch or pebbles. Will that work?
Excellent video. Video camera is too shaky...keep the camera steady and open up your viewer so things are not cut off; pull your camera back to increase the overall viewscape.
+you tube Fabric is not necessary. Some people use it, because it adds stability, and prevents weeds. This little walkway is plenty stable, and the weeds that typically grow in gravel germinate from the top where the fabric does not protect. If you like fabric, though, Go for it!
Can you ever just set thick flagstones, say 4" thick, directly without the base? Our soil is heavy clay or sand plus clay and I'm wondering if I could get my grade, tamp it, put an inch of sand over it, and set the flagstones since what we have is 4" thick and there's zero chance of them ever breaking.
+Stefan Grunkemeier Thanks for the reply. Turns out, I built it yesterday and did set it on sand for leveling as you described. Even though it's on sand, I'm going to point with 1:2 cement:sand in the gaps rather than fill will sand or gravel. This is a narrow side yard where there's no room to grade out 10 feet, so I pitched the stone to carry stormwater to the back yard. I need to point the gaps so that water will flow over the walk rather than sinking between the stones. It may crack, but I'm hoping the 4" thickness will help. I'll know in a year or three. Thanks for your help! Yell if you think pointing is a total disaster. Moving stormwater is more important than looks.
Stefan Grunkemeier thank you for the courtesy of your reply. This was a very good video, btw, and the finished walk (and the previously-completed patio) look great!
Hey Stefan...thanks for the advice. I was thinking of a desert theme for my backyard, you know of any preferable themes? Funny to read how you made all the women moist in the comments below hahahahaa.
dang energy cola powder turns heads with the end result lol jk.. with that time and effort it should come out satisfied. very simple techniques that meet hard work have potential to become great!
If you all haven't seen a documentary called... it's worse than you think...by revelations of Jesus Christ ministries... I suggest you do... All praise and glory to the most high Jesus Christ
11 years old and still a great video. Thank you.
This is the best video I've found on this topic. Thorough, concise, and no music. Thanks!
Thanks!
There was music at 8:14, my favorite part! :D
I had to watch this A LOT, because Stefan is really easy on the eyes. I think if he were in my yard, who would care if there was a walkway! This is a handy video as well.
La Fekken
Ha I was thinking the same thing! Hello!!
Yup
Should be more videos like this on RUclips. Great camera and audio work. I like the professionalism, too.
The guitar and the gun! Men are truly still little boys! Love it.

Great work guys...really well done. Thank you for explaining it where any novice can understand and follow.
Great job guys. Nice to see someone who really enjoys their work. Have fun and party on. 👍
I'm glad to hear this is helping people. We will be creating more 'how to' stone videos soon!
Coco melon
some real rock and roll there at the end!
Awesome man,I'm gonna do my first flagstone walkway and this is a great video,i am excited to do it myself thank's,you guys make it look like a piece of cake,no more school fees or anything like that.
This was the most helpful info I found to make my own stone pathway. Thanks!
Nice informative flagstone installation video. Thanks!
Great video with lots of useful information, thank you.
The water is not a problem. It will drain into the ground, or flow away eventually. We are in Seattle, and it is usually raining anyways. : )
This is a great video How-To ... really appreciated!!!!
Helpful and also entertaining, thanks. Dunblane Scotland.
Thanks for the vid, beautiful work.
Excellent tutorial. If you were in our town - we would hire you! (Love the "guitar moment too. Gives new meaning to "Rock Band!" ;)
seriously, great vid. thank you.

Great video!
Nice job! Might try this.
You can find 1/4 minus gravel at about half of the gravel yards out there. 3/8" minus is the same thing as 1/4" minus.
Great energy - great work!
I always use a 4-6 ply plastic underneath to avoid weeds......Nice video
This video was really informative! Thank you so much!
BEAUTIFUL
SOME WORK WITH MY BIOLOGIC MOM ÎN THIS LIFETIME
It has the 'fines' in it. This makes it compact-able and therefore structural, unlike 'clean' or 'washed' gravel..
Great presentation.
Thanks for the positive feedback, guys.
Thanks for the video!
Thank you. Very clear.
good job guys..thanks for the tips
I hope there is a GFI at the end of the grinder cord! GREAT VIDEO
Nice waterfall sound in the back!
Grass will start growing in no time
Great Rock guitar!
Fantastic bombastic!
good job, guys..

Good job from 🇬🇧 👍
Good video, thank you
Fantastic bombastic
Gran trabajo, excelente resultado.
Good video, very informative.

Keep up the good work.
Medical problem I need advice on finenancual
nevermind i read some replies and it makes sense nice work guys
Can we put the black clothe under before gravel so grass won't come out
No DG on top of the gravel? Isn't 2" shallow?
4" on patio, 2" is fine for walkway. DG would be redundant on top of 1/4 minus gravel.
O really great.
Only one thing,is not safe using the grinder on your knees.but good video thanks.
I hope thats a battery cutter or double insulated if AC?
craigs a hard worker haha
How much do you want for the flagstone that can also be used as a gun ?
What's the annual rainfall in this locality?
Great Video! I wish you show a little bit more the Materials, where you get it, the Gravelbags (are they from the HomeDepot?) but thats a great Video!! Thanks
What about landscape fabric? I was going to lay the paver stone, then leveling sand, then the fabric then the stone then mulch or pebbles. Will that work?
My favourite part was the flagstone guitar riff.
Excellent video. Video camera is too shaky...keep the camera steady and open up your viewer so things are not cut off; pull your camera back to increase the overall viewscape.
no filter fabric etc.. on top of leveled soil where you dug for path before laying stones down?
+you tube

Where do you find 1/4" minus gravel? Would another size work? Such as 1/8" minus or 3/8" minus?
I liked the guitar riff too but that second riff, uh oh, they will kick you out of school for that.
no modified under the crackerdust?
I have weeds coming out of my backyard which I intend to have paver walkway done. How do i prevent the weeds from coming out between the pavers?
Maybe u need to put the black clothe first
Invest in a camera that has image stabilization I'm getting seasick over here with all the shaking.
I highly recommend a Dramamine before watching this video. Otherwise...good content.
damn it's not natural but I really like the cuts you made,"Nice"
nice flagstone path but I don't think mixing electric angle grinders & water is a good idea

you should be good. at least use sand for leveling, though

"a regular claw"
all in what's the cost per square foot of a project like this nowadays?
Between $18-$30 including excavation/base/finished stone work. Mostly in the $20-$25 range
Stefan Grunkemeier thank you for the courtesy of your reply. This was a very good video, btw, and the finished walk (and the previously-completed patio) look great!
i tried using one of those grinders and it died in 15 seconds (
Haha liked the guitar and gun...total dudes
LOL, the camera person sniffling the whole time.
You remind me of Erik Roberts!
Dude, get a tripod. I got motion sickness watching, otherwise good video.
The camera should have image stabilization, that was painful. But good content.
Hey Stefan...thanks for the advice. I was thinking of a desert theme for my backyard, you know of any preferable themes? Funny to read how you made all the women moist in the comments below hahahahaa.
LOL. I would recommend using decomposed granite if you can find it. It compacts nicely, and offers a sandy deserty look.
@8:14 😅😂
dang energy cola powder turns heads with the end result lol jk..

Holy cow I can’t watch that…it’s making me dizzy
