I Definitely enjoy watching your videos and learning so so much about ways that I can do I've seen so many different videos but far love watching yours you explain truly well better than a lot 😊😀☺
Keen to see if it works. I made the ancient irrigation ollas and the capillary action is draining it all out the system faster than the plants can utilise it. Have added waterproofing to the bottom so hoping that works. This seems smarter with the open/close valve. Do give us an update! Same as with that other teaser terraplanter! Nice one!!
I was considering doing exactly this, but was worried the nutrient salts would actually interfere with the capillary action that operates the pressure switch more than it building up in the tubing itself. Really excited to see how this goes, thank you for the great videos!
Great explainer video! Question: How often do you fill the water tank? I'm planning a month-long trip and wonder if I need to get someone to come and check the water....
One of my curious friends: Hay what's that? Me: You don't wanna know! my friend: Please I'd like to know. Me: it is a Self Watering, Moisture Sensing, Gravity Fed... my friend: Never mind.
Thanks for another great video! Since you're someone who has read a lot about this and has used a variety of growing mediums I thought I'd ask what you think about coco coir vs vermiculite / perlite? I've read around the net that coco isn't super sustainable. Does it end up working a lot better than vermiculite / perlite for similar methods though?
Coco is actually a byproduct of the coconut shell industry. (Coconut milk, oil, flesh, etc) and the farming of coconuts when done in an environmentally friendly way is a renewable resource. I think you’re thinking of spagnum and peat moss, which is harvested from peat marsh. Which is extremely unsustainable. Vermiculite/perlite is a fantastic mix, I’m just working my way through trying each mix thoroughly and I happened upon a lot of coco for very cheap. 50/50 Vermiculite /perlite is second to none for seed raising though.
hey hoocho, how are is you updated opinion about those "blumat" devices afte 2 years? did they work out for you or did you had anny issues on long term? ...love and light from germany!
@@razer192 I use it with feed and it hasn't blocked the tubes yet but it has clogged some nozzles which are not needed to use the system but I use to have less carrots and more water distribution. Maybe the filters would help but I still haven't gotten any.
For those who are interested: There is also Blumat Classic which are single cones with small hoses for reservoirs which are positioned below the device. I use succesfully chinese ripoffs indoors with soil and rainwater. I´m curious how fast they will clog with nutrient solution.
@@imbrudedsoul yes. the knockoffs cost about 1$/piece, the originals a multiple. with "ceramic watering cone" you should find them. The ones with the hose, not the ones to put bottles in.
I tried those out. Work great! Unfortunately, after a few years all but one of the plastic pieces that are on the terra cotta part cracked, rendering them unusable.
Hmmmm. I'm still looking at starting a system but looking at all the different types to suit. With this set up there appears to be no ongoing costs. This is interesting and well presented. I'd also be interested to see the outcome after a while.

you have quickly became one of my favorite youtubers. I think you are severely under rated and look forward to seeing new content from you =)
You could use drinking straws to send the small tubes through to keep them from kinking.
Overall, I like the system. Looks nice & easy to use.
Interesting vid, please do a review if they worked or not.
My guy, thanks for not being a total bore. You got me into hydroponics and it’s great
Hey Hoocho! Bout time you did a DIY aquaponics series using an IBC so I can shamelessly mimic it in my backyard!
Definitely in my plans!

They have a filter for about $30 for that reason now. Just not sure if I need 2 filters with a closed loop setup.
The canna growers love those things. It will be cool to see how they work for you.
Thank u..Thank u..u made it easy to understand... I was ready to dump into the bin...
Thank u
You bout to get me to move to Australia just to have a Bunnings.
Always helps to read the instuctions smerk great little idea
It's a real shame that the special tools don't come with instructions. :)
Can’t wait to see how it works. You are going into summer, we are heading to winter, next year I may try it. 😁
Can’t wait to try these out! Looking for something else after doing NTF 👌🏽
Also can’t wait for an update on these too
No clue why someone would downvote this video. Such great info! Thank you
Those eggplants look a lot happier, very interested to see how it works over the season.
I just picked up 2 kits for $24 bucks a kit at bunnings. Cant wait to set them up
Good plan, More content please.

How did it go with the salt build up or it wasn't a issue?
Can you do an update on these , Intrested in knowing if i should pull the trigger on these

I'd be curious to know how long would it take for the tiny tubing to get clogged up.
They make inline filters to help with that but I haven't had problems yet.

Really good explanation thanks. A few months on now, how have you found the system? Does it look like something that could work long term?
The Blumat systems work amazingly, the plants get a drink at the exact time it needs it. I have used these for years before Bunnings rebranded them.
For those who are interested: There is also Blumat Classic which are single cones with small hoses for reservoirs which are positioned below the device. I use succesfully chinese ripoffs indoors with soil and rainwater. I´m curious how fast they will clog with nutrient solution.
Do they have the knockoffs on Amazon

I would add an air stone and pump to the tank. Keeps the water agitated. Plants don’t like stagnant water.
Interessante e bem informativo, obrigado.
Thanks Hoocho
I always wondered the nutritional value between organic vs hydro? Does the hydro have a lot of pests? Have you heard of JADAM?

Ongoing costs would be perlite, coco and nutrients.
@Hoocho did you ever figure out how to 3d print a system that uses pressure values like this one?
What nutrients do you feed your plants and ratio per gallon?
Do these fail? Not sure I could trust this. To many things could go wrong.
Hope you have a powerpass card, but these things are great
How did you fair against salt buildup?
Well did the valve work?

Could you just make a mini olla, hook it up to a drip line, then seal it off so it can't leak? Or would the olla leach to much water out
