I have been to every single one of Madonna‘s tours. The Virgin tour was amazing, and somehow every single tour following that got better, and better. She is an outstanding performance artist, the likes of which we may never see again. There will only ever be one Madonna.
Brilliant review Patrick, I really enjoyed your enthusiasm for her performance. This is my second favourite tour, right behind the Confessions tour. My favourite part of the Girlie Show is the disco sequence with Express Yourself, Deeper and Deeper, Why’s it so Hard. Only Madonna can serve up an onstage orgy, and have it be avant-garde and artsy. What a show. Fever is also outstanding.
If you haven’t reviewed anything from the Confessions tour, I highly recommend it. Hung Up opens the show, and it is mind blowing.
And Disco Inferno is unforgettable. If you love JML, you must see that done on Confessions tour!! Wow!!

That was such a great performance! She always does the complete opposite of what you might expect for a song. At first you're like wtf and then ohhhhhhhhhhh....i see what she's doing. I love that about her.
I don’t know if you seen her perform LaIsla Bonita but her performance of La Isla. Bonita in this tour her best performance; everything from the dancing, singing and energy is incredible.

If you haven’t heard the various remixes of Justify My Love, they’re very much worth checking out. They’re really incredible, including a version where she recites verses from the book of Revelation for the lyrics that is just amazing. She’s used that alternate version (called “The Beast Within”) in several concerts, including The Girlie Show.

Oh but she can, lol. People who can't sing don't sell bazillions of records. It's true she lip synchs a few numbers in each show to focus on performance. She brought stellar vocals at the end here! She was never a vocalist....shes soooooo much more and it's great.

Madonna's voice is TERRIFIC, it has so many layers to it just like her music and her dancing. There's no Madonna without her voice, it's her most important asset. I wouldn't want a Celine or a Whitney singing JUSTIFY MY LOVE (or for that matter "Live to Tell", or "Don't Tell Me", really the list goes on), because the song which is a work of art would have been completely turned into an unlistenable piece of garbage.

Not sure if you know this song was produced by Lenny Kravitz and that’s his voice moaning in the background. This performance just meshes music, dance, fashion and art in such a classy way while still holding onto the heavy sexual feel of the original. I don’t think you need to defend your appreciation of Madonna in every video - Haters are mostly politically motivated keyboard warriors , just do you. Also, JML is technically not part of the Erotica era, as it was a single off the Greatest hits compilation “The Immaculate Collection” which came out a year or two before Erotica dropped. So it was kind of a precursor or sneak peek and certainly kicked off Madonna’s experimenting with the spoken word.
