The dropping from the trees came about because we found out they're high on eucalyptus leaves and probably should fall out, but because we're down under, gravity keeps them in place.

There literally isn't one. As I understand it, "Drop Bears" are the names Aussies gave Koalas that fall out of trees. At some point someone decided it'd be a hilarious joke to start telling tourists that the bears weren't falling, they were attacking and if one ever landed on your head you'd be sorry. All the locals decided it'd be a good joke and underestimated the stupidity/ignorance of the rest of the world.
