"The reward for being a good engineer is more work". ....a colleague told me this. I found out the truth of that quote the hard way. Not just a clever remark, but entirely true. In my last job I sure wasn't the best (entry level, so a bit much to expect experienced brilliance), but I worked hard and definitely well above my pay grade (which was bottom of the barrel). When I think about escaping wage slavery, I'm not necessarily thinking about working my life away to make more money than I actually need. Where I said something like "some people are lucky enough to find fullfiling jobs, and we hate them because we are jealous". :) But seriously, I love the idea of finding a fullfilling job that pays less, than a corporate job that pays a lot but that you hate. And because I think its actually hard to find that, then its probably more ambitious than to become "rich".
I can say from my corporate experience that "finding the balance" is actually extremely difficult. You're either moving forward or sliding your way towards the next layoff list. You have no choice but to push yourself on a daily basis, staying late, working weekends even, trying to constantly multi-task, working while eating lunch at your desk, sacrificing personal health, etc. That's part of the psychological abuse of the wage slavery that you want to escape.
Ambition is working towards a worthy ideal. That is something that can only be defined by you, if you define it by money then it's about money, but clearly you don't. I agree it should be more nuanced. And asking questions like that are exactly what is going to help you get there.

@@justinedse8435 - no. It's not a "limiting belief". It's just a cold hard fact. I can quickly and easily disprove this premesis. Think about someone who is a "lock-in". That is..they sustained an injury and are not just completely immobile...but cannot speak. The kind of person who has to communicate by blinking their eyes because they cannot move their mouth. These people exist. Locked in to their body. There is no WAY that they could overcome that and build their "dream life" by "manifesting" it. That's not gonna happen. And if it doesn't apply to all...then it applies to none. Like gravity. Gravity is an actual law. It applies equally to all. The idea you can "manifest" success is not a "limiting" belief. It's a FALSE belief. And those who believe it have been...wait for it... Deceived. That's right. People can still get deceived by other people selling them silly ideas that have no basis in truth. This is one example of it.
@@courtneymeyers82 exactly. And if they couldn’t…then they would be doomed. And most have no way to move away. The whole “manifesting” and “law of attraction” and “the secret” thing is obviously not in any way real. You think that a 22 year old man living in Somalia who has access to a cell phone and RUclips could just “focus his thoughts enough” and manifest his desire to be CEO of Goldman Sacks? He could just “wish his way” into being a billionaire CEO of the largest investment bank in the world as long as he focused hard enough? No. Of course not. That’s literally impossible. There are far too many impossible hurdles in his way and his life is too short to overcome them. There are literally limitless examples I could come up with which would prove that the idea is bunk. People who believe in that stuff WANT to believe in it. It’s like people who want to believe in magic. There are documentaries here on RUclips about “The Witches of Romania” you can watch. People phone them from all over the world asking them to put curses on their men for having affairs. They wire them money to do so. Nothing these witches do has any effect on the real world. But the people calling them desperately WANT to believe that it does. “Manifesting” is no different. It’s just another form of witchcraft. It has no power but people want to believe it does.
I’ve been thinking exactly the same as you. But people are wage slaves for their pets. Slaving away , paying for food, heat, the shelter just so your dog or cat can sleep, have free food, massages, ,play all day and to top it off : They can lick their own bits; all of which you have paid for.
Spot on. I am one of those wage slaves Mr. Scryleus is referring to. All my life I have jumped from one dead end job to another just to have my utilities and property tax paid. Food for myself and my two loving dogs take up the rest, they are my children so I work for whoever will pay me to make sure those bases are covered. The financial stress can sometimes be overwhelming but I'm trapped for if I quit my minimum wage job I don't have the college credentials or skill set to advance to something fullfilling and lucrative. This is depression at a very high level not knowing if tomorrow will be the day my phone, electricity, or heat gets turned off 😢

After some thought about the term wage slavery, ive come to the conclusion that most people arent wage slaves but are enslaved by the monetary system. A worker has the choice to stay with a company if the worker/employer relationship is beneficial to both or look for another job or company. Learning a trade or skill gives the worker more control of who he works for and how much he can earn. Just my thoughts.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think my videos are really more thought experiments and point of view. So this can be looked at from different perspectives. Have a nice day
Great content Tom. Freshly subscribed. I hate to point this out; but for the sake of accuracy.... it appears as though you reversed the color of the proverbial matrix pills.
I think these are different things. Passive income is money earned from an enterprise with little or no ongoing effort. Residual income is not exactly a type of income but a calculation determining how much discretionary money an individual or entity can spend after paying their bills and meeting their financial obligations.
@@TomScryleus the time I spent making my trade bot didn’t feel passive. Nor does the money I will earn to fund its capital. I have investigated different types of “passive income” and it always entails a lot of very active work up front. Out of curiosity, how much time does it take to make a RUclips video? Does it feel passive to make that video?
Doesnt matter how much work i put in. I still get passive income over time. Most of my videos make passive income many years after. And so its passive, instead of active =Trading time for money Passive income and residual income are related concepts, but they're not exactly the same. Passive income refers to money earned with little or no effort, often requiring initial upfront work, like dividends from investments. Residual income, on the other hand, specifically involves continuous earnings from a past effort, such as royalties or ongoing payments for work done in the past. While passive income can be residual, not all residual income is necessarily passive, as some forms may require ongoing involvement or maintenance.
ah.. yes .. " real value " ....that's the rub isn't it. we are all still dependent on the consumer. or in the case of crypton/investments ... we are all dependent on market " confidence " is there anything around this?
You can try to find truly ethical companies, who share your values. It would take a lot of research Myself, I write books, love doing this, and am hoping 1 little gem might actually sell. Royalties are passive income
Trust me, it doesnt have to. :) I have several passive income streams, that hardly required lot of work. And whats more its in comparsion to active work, where you make a lot more money per hour. A good example is this one review I did a 5 years that still to this day generates 10usd per month. considering it only took me an hour to make and upload the video, its rather little work.
@@TomScryleus Ok. That makes sense. You do have a point, actually. I like elaborated skills and I like to learn complicated stuff, but your videos are actually training my efficient circuits 😄
I watched another one of your videos about wage slavery and it was rather insightful and offered an interesting perspective on the matter. But this video? This is just awful. If you're "selling a product" here then it is just highly disingenuous, while if you trully believe all you're saying then you completely lack perspective and have forgotten that correlation doesn't imply causation (among other biases you exhibit). I could go much deeper into this but like you said - it is not worth my time.
Im not selling anything. How am i being disingenious? Its to bad you dont want to go deeper, i have no idea what your problem is with this video. Just fyi, this video got a 99% like ratio, its even higher than the ”the real reason we are wage slaves”.
When you make money from crypto/stock, those whom you bought from and those whom you sold to are the losers who prop you up. You gotta be realist man instead of treating crypto/stock as some everyone wins magic.
When everyone quits to make content online… the profit would be spread so thin. Also, crypto is a zero sum game. In order for someone to win, someone has to lose. It’s just transferring money from one to another. There is no value in it.
i didn't choose anything. It was programmed from birth. school, career, the works. I just opened my eyes, while most people squint or keep them closed. We are being tricked to slave away.
I do not believe you are quoting me correctly. I never say that I am different from crypto and passive income guys. But regardless, yes I am a fan of crypto and passive income. So what?
Best youtube video I've seen was saying to never take the advice of "successful" people because what made them "successful" was 90% luck. Being born to loving caring wealthy parents who pay for top quality education and set you up in a turnkey business vs being born to abusive alcoholic drug addicts who molest and pimp you out to support their addiction. Which is going to succeed and who will become an abusive alcoholic druggie child molestor? Life sucks then we die. Some are lucky, most aren't.
@@TomScryleus I've never actually seen the movies, I've only absorbed the basic plotline through cultural osmosis, so for all I know, you could be the only one getting it right.
You will age You will become useless to society You will be replaced You can have all the ambition you want. You can't buy years of life. You can't buy your youth back. And when you're 50 and rich, you'll understand that you would trade it all to get your precious years back. So think good about the "ambition" and how you measure "success". I've read and seen 100 gurus like the guy in this video. All clueless.
@@redrustyhill2 You won't be wealthy. Inflation will wipe out your gains. Immigration will reduce the average salary. You will be forced to live a live of under consumption, just to break even. Only brokers, banks and the government benefit from this system.
I ain't useless to society, f you, at 56 I'm still highly productive and extremely intelligent. My intelligence has expanded 10 fold, I'm definitely an asset. Young people use that ageism as a way of cutthroat competition. It's screams insecurity
The thing is you shouldn't depend that heavily on the Youth Card. Society is a fool to do so. Youth is fleeting, Father Time marches on everyone's f'g face and backs eventually The fact that you go along with and support ageism is you shooting yourself in the foot repeatedly years later. It's stupid. I've been open to all ages since I was a little kid, and to me, ALL human life has value, including the elderly and disabled
@@courtneymeyers82 Say whatever you want. You can cope with it how it pleases you. What I'm telling is only what I observe. NOBODY cares about old people. I see it everyday at work, at social events. At the street. At any instance where is social interaction involved, they are worthless for society. And once again. Your particular case doesn't apply to the general society. Open your eyes. Ofc that won't help if you don't want to see reality.
@@redrustyhill2 I'll agree to that. I am an engineer and I strive to invent something that makes a big improvement to something common and then license the technology out
I had such high hopes for this channel, but this vid reveals that your perpective, as you call it is just another worn out trope. People can't escape because they lack ambition. No. Wrong. Good-bye.
hmm, very strange that you picked that up, because I never said anything like that in the video. The only thing I mention about motivation, is that you should find what you love, because that gives you motivation. That is my life experience. Is that what you consider trope? Regardless, the whole video is mainly about leveraging perspective. If you don't believe you can accomplish something, you never will. Thats just common sense. Its not about motivation, or criticism of people without ambition. I really would like to know what part specifically of the video you interpreted as criticism of people without motivation.
Beginning at about 4:53, you claim that your perspective changed, but based on your comments, it sounds like your economic status improved and that in fact is what caused this changed perspective. Hardly surprising. "Eventually I advanced in life and my perspective changed." Of course it did! Money does that to a person. LOL. "They don't believe in passive income or becoming a digital entrepreneur..." Really, Tom? You want to sell me a belief in those things? Maybe what I desire is not about the way in which I earn money. The world is full of other values that can't be measured in currency. Hmmmm, you seem smart enough to know that. But maybe I'm wrong. Good Luck on your chosen path. I don't mind being the person you look down on. Like anyone else I can only be who I am. I would love to have a changed perspective, but only if I agree with how I achieve it. Our world is cruel and forces us to believe that money changes everything. I just want more choices in how that change comes about.
I rewatched that segment. Thank you for following up on this. I admit that segment is a bit clumsy spoken, blaming on my poor english. I was trying to explain how perspective makes a difference thats all. And my perspective changes constantly. For example this year I will start my own one man company. Im scared and dont know how its going to work. Maybe it wont. Or it will, and I will make a video explaining how i should have done this 10 years ago, that it was easier than I thought. This is what I mean with perspective. Of couse money is not the only thing, but this is a video about wage slavery and escaping it. I have made other videos explaining that escaping wage slavery wont make you happy, because life is deeper than that. I often mention the example of a person winning the lottery and the person lossing his legs, after 6 months they go back to feeling exactly how they did before the life changing event. And I also said that this channel isnt just about wage slavery. I want to explore deeper philosophical aspects of the complexity of life. Anyway, thanks for explaining. Your original comment really lingered in my head all day, had you not replied back my Weekend would have been ruined. And thats not a joke. You have no idea how hard I am on myself. Have a nice weekend

And to the guy that says you don't have to be perfect to be successful well show me how I can be, please!!!
Some people walk, some people run, whatever tickles your 'fanny'. 🤣 You made me laugh!
I'm retired and lying on the beach every day. Most of my life. Heaven ! 😊
So you're saying that someone born in Haiti...there's no limits on how much money they can make? There's no limit on how much they can influence other people? Seems.... a bit off to me.
Yes. If you think otherwise then that is a limiting mindset.
@@justinedse8435no, you are just delusional and completely detached from reality
I guess they would need to move away, find a way to relocate
Slaving away , paying for food, heat, the shelter just so your dog or cat can sleep, have free food, massages, ,play all day and to top it off : They can lick their own bits; all of which you have paid for.
our pets are better off than us wage slaves.
This is depression at a very high level not knowing if tomorrow will be the day my phone, electricity, or heat gets turned off 😢
@timshepherd4626 Im sorry your situation is so untenable. I cant do anything for you directly but i will say your not alone in your struggle. Eventually people will wake up and realise they are the majority and the elites the minority. Then chaos and maybe a better world. Maybe.
There is hope things will change. Sadly even if it is a violent one.
Can you start a YT channel for one of your hobbies or interests? Start the channel just for fun and maybe as an outlet. Or teach people a skill? That could lead to sponsorships, if you are interested. Or you can branch out and have a patreon, with members-only content. There are many ways to branch out these days. Also, what skills do you want to learn? There are plenty of free courses on RUclips. If you want skills in hands-on trades, that might be different, but in the meantime, plenty of tech-related free content on youtube. The irony...
I didn't recognize the bad perspective of mine, but i did realize years ago that happiness, just as unhappiness are a product of perspective and expectations.
(to a very large part at least)
...Ok summarizing this video, i've learned what will help me:
Finding something that i actually love and becoming great at it.
Not necessarily the best, but the best to my ability, so i can be proud of my efforts and don't view the time used as wasted, because i feel personally rewarded by it.
(unlike a regular workplace.)
That should help me a great deal.
P.S
You mixed up the pills.
The red one stands for the truth and the blue one stands for the bliss.
Or at least i'd be very surprised if i mixed that up myself now.

@TomScryleus OK I'll work Tues Wednesday Thursday. Got any jobs like that available??

Thank you and welcome.
Yes people have pointed out the color shift. My explanation is that i favor the blue color. 🤓
I like the term “residual income” instead of passive income because it’s more descriptive of how it’s works.
And so its passive, instead of active =Trading time for money
Passive income and residual income are related concepts, but they're not exactly the same.
@@TomScryleus I maybe using this term to remind myself it isn't free and I still need to work on it. I do that to keep perspective.
Sounds good. Keep at it.
I felt like those two songs Correlated with your message as well.
Two songs?

ah.. yes .. " real value " ....that's the rub isn't it. we are all still dependent on the consumer.
or in the case of crypton/investments ... we are all dependent on market " confidence "
is there anything around this?
What is the music in the outro, please? Stock or original?
Im proud to say that I actually made that tune myself. Did you like it?
@@TomScryleus I do like it, great job!
What you say about passive income etc - isn't that living off slave labour elsewhere?
Correct.
But its a wage slave society and most people are ok with that. People choose to trade their time for money.
They value money over time.
You can try to find truly ethical companies, who share your values. It would take a lot of research
Myself, I write books, love doing this, and am hoping 1 little gem might actually sell. Royalties are passive income
Passive income is actually not so passive. Providing or gathering value still requires a lot of work.
Trust me, it doesnt have to. :)
I have several passive income streams, that hardly required lot of work.
Its to bad you dont want to go deeper,
i have no idea what your problem is with this video.
Just fyi, this video got a 99% like ratio, its even higher than the ”the real reason we are wage slaves”.
Lol you legit said the last phrase wrong. You said I will give you the blue pill to see how deep the rabbit hole goes. It's the red pill!!
yeah, some viewers have pointed it out in the comments before. :)
Before you speak....pause about 2 seconds as the commercials before you drown you out.
'passive income', such as a full time employment. 😎
I would rather be an unknown millionaire!!!
Weird, then why did this guy choose this?
i didn't choose anything. It was programmed from birth. school, career, the works. I just opened my eyes, while most people squint or keep them closed. We are being tricked to slave away.
Im different what those krypto and passive income guys...4 minutes later, get kryptos and passive incomes 😂
I do not believe you are quoting me correctly. I never say that I am different from crypto and passive income guys.
But regardless, yes I am a fan of crypto and passive income. So what?
homie gets lucky on bitcoin and now thinks he’s a wisdom guru, so tiresome
Best youtube video I've seen was saying to never take the advice of "successful" people because what made them "successful" was 90% luck. Being born to loving caring wealthy parents who pay for top quality education and set you up in a turnkey business vs being born to abusive alcoholic drug addicts who molest and pimp you out to support their addiction. Which is going to succeed and who will become an abusive alcoholic druggie child molestor? Life sucks then we die. Some are lucky, most aren't.
Nice video 💪 but you got the red and the blue pill in the wrong order haha.. the red pill shows you the truth..
you mixed up your pills at the end
Or did I ? ;)
@@TomScryleus I've never actually seen the movies, I've only absorbed the basic plotline through cultural osmosis, so for all I know, you could be the only one getting it right.
you never saw the matrix?
You will age
You will become useless to society
You will be replaced
You can have all the ambition you want. You can't buy years of life. You can't buy your youth back.
And when you're 50 and rich, you'll understand that you would trade it all to get your precious years back.
So think good about the "ambition" and how you measure "success". I've read and seen 100 gurus like the guy in this video. All clueless.
Id rather be 50 and wealthy than 50 and homeless because i spent my youth having fun rather than being ambitious.
Youth is fleeting, Father Time marches on everyone's f'g face and backs eventually
The fact that you go along with and support ageism is you shooting yourself in the foot repeatedly years later.
This video should be titled "How to continue eroding at society/humanity for your own personal and selfish gains"
:)
Yeah, just about all forms of "passive income" depend on enslavement, opression, exploiting, or deceiving someone else.
@@redrustyhill2 I'll agree to that. I am an engineer and I strive to invent something that makes a big improvement to something common and then license the technology out
lost me on the bluepill analogy
The matrix (1999). its a movie reference referring to choosing brutal truth over comforting ignorance.
Your original comment really lingered in my head all day, had you not replied back my
Weekend would have been ruined. And thats not a joke. You have no idea how hard I am on myself.
