    This content is from my previous video. Some people were interested in the real-time footage of how to make a wooden crimp.
    The following tools were used:
    Band saw
    Belt sander
    Angle grinder with a carbide disc (King Arthur's Tools)
    Carver’s vise (Veritas)
    Drill with a sanding pad
    Detail sander
    Filmed and edited by Tobias Wurft.
    Thanks for all your support!

    Nice job. I find a router with a number of different diameter rounding bits really useful tool to make holds pretty quickly too.

      Yes routers and trimmers are really useful tools. But with a big router it's a little bit sketchy on small holds. Not something I would like to share on RUclips... :)

      @@wurfttobias fair enough, they are a dangerous tool in inexperienced hands. In case you're interested, if I'm making a bunch of holds, I like to rip a 15 or 30 degree angle along one side of a decent length of timber (with a board thickness and width of the holds I'm after), then round off both sides with the router. After that I lop it up to the hold size I want with the circular saw (incut or sloping edges depending if I want multiple pulling angles) followed by a quick run of any sharp edges over the sander, a triangle of countersunk screw holes (2 on the hold edge) and they're done. Not as professional looking as yours but they still look ok and are functional for climbing. Keep up the good work

    Thoughts on glued-up hardwood lumber for making larger holds? Getting slabs is kinda pricey. Also, really inspired by your videos - just bought the veritas vice yesterday. Looking forward to improving the holds I already made.

      Thanks.
      Awesome! The Carvers Vise is really useful. So far, I've only glued up plywood for bigger holds. Don't have a plainer to achieve perfectly plain hardwood lumber surfaces that can be glued together. But used to do that in my dad's workshop.

      Thank you bro! That's the Carver's Vise from Veritas. In one of my other videos, I do explain the simple attachment that I made to attach the climbing holds to the mounting plate. I would recommend using softer hardwood (e.g. poplar, tulip, maple) to start with. At first, you will learn more quickly if you use softer wood because you spend less time with sanding. Beech is really great when it comes to durability, availability, and texture but it's a little bit harder.
      Enjoy the journey! :)

    Do you use any metal inserts for the bolt hole?

    • @wurfttobias
      @wurfttobias  10 месяцев назад +1

      No, you don't need them when using countersunk bolts. But I would recommend using them in combination with normal bolts.

      I glued a velcro discs on top of the foam in order to use the velcro sanding pads.

    what is the best wood for holds? and how do i find that tree? i live in spain, madrid...

    • @wurfttobias
      @wurfttobias  2 года назад

      In my opinion, a medium density/hard hardwood with small pores is ideal for climbing holds. My favorite, when it comes to the wood properties, is beech. I would definitely recommend working with dried wood (lumber), not fresh cut wood because otherwise you will most likely have issues with cracks and warping.
