houdini surpass both maya and cinema 4D in particle system no matter wat.....i mean yeah each 3D artist may have their preferences but Side Fx know their game and their particle system are always kinda interesting to see than the others.
nuke is more like compositing vfx software with dynamics whereas houdini would use to model, animate and calculate physics. Houdini stands out more in 3D dyynamics and particle system than nuke. But pricewise and featurewise if said houdini is a better choice if anyone is working for 3D and not much on about vfx stuff.
Procedural node based workflow. That's the way to go, but high learning curve. I remember watching the original Terminator and Total Recall in the 80's, and was amazed what Houdini could do. Maya and 3D Max weren't around. Lightwave came on the seen quite early. But those were toys to play with. Houdini was a 15000 dollar monster. Hollywood had proprietary software, which was usually always Houdini.
I don't get it. The old Houdini demo reels are so jaw droppingly spectacular yet these new ones are so basic. Which is ironic since Houdini is more powerful and more polished than it has ever been. Maybe today clients aren't as demanding as before :/
I think the big problem why houdini hasn't replaced maya yet is the lack of documentation and good tutorials. For example if I wanted a simple tutorial on how to unwrap textures for a model and make it look good in an engine or something like that there is fuck all...while there are about a billion maya tutorials on it. Houdini should spend resources to address this!
Their website has really great tutorials... I mean just an example.. these series alone will get you a good general coverage... And they're free.. from a Houdini pro instructor: archive.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=202&Itemid=361
Fuck You: (lol that name though) Try modelling a character with parameters/procedures (I mean sure you can make a parameter for the nose size lets say.. but to parametrize the shape... you will have to create/store morph shapes etc and that will be very time consuming) Just saying everything doesn't need to be procedural... & some things just can't be. For freeform modelling... I would definitely not chose Houdini... because like Gavin said, the process/steps are too slow due to the pure node based system. I personally model my stuff in Softimage still... which is a hybrid procedural app (ICE in Softimage is procedural, but you don't have to create ICE nodes for any object you want to model & can just freeform model like maya max etc if you want... with Houdini you have no choice with nodes).
in any case, the presence of Ghostbuster hurt the presentation. ignoring the fact that the movie kinda looks like shit compared to anything else produced on the market (the ghost in Ghostbuster are some of the worse CGI out there considering the budget and origin of movie). but it's presence here actively makes possible consumers have a negative response on Houdini, as the scenes of the movie recalls the whole horrible advertisement campaign aimed to provoke and insult people to create "buzz" on the title.
@@gavindownes4541 lmfaoo wrong again special effects means effects done in real life. for example, you set up a red flickering light on set to simulate the look of fire, that's a special effect. Special effects are the opposite of post production computer made effects, in this case VFX.
This is super great! But one question: Why Houdini is more flexible than, lets say C4D?? With C4D's python or plugin coding, you can draw everything (pixel level) in 3d space.. you can do your own math and own physics in very low level. Basically I dont see why the Houdini is more flexible than C4D (or any other 3d package). With coding, you can get as much control as Houdini in C4D. Am I wrong? Why Houdini is more flexible? What makes Houdini better?
Houdini is the most flexible of all the big 3d packages on the market. All the things you talk about you can do them in Houdini as well... and much more. Houdini plays very well with python, it has the shell installed by default. It also has its own scripting language besides Python... actually 2 languages... Hscript and VEX. You can modify data flow at will with attribute wrangles and other methods... I seriously doubt C4D has even 1/2 the capabilities... Houdini makes other 3D apps look like black boxes with a few knobs exposed. It's fully procedural... that alone makes it more flexible. And why do your own math when you have an extensive collection of physics solvers and other cool tools built in for you? :P
man houdini is hard to learn but so worth it.
houdini surpass both maya and cinema 4D in particle system no matter wat.....i mean yeah each 3D artist may have their preferences but Side Fx know their game and their particle system are always kinda interesting to see than the others.
sorry.. I'm new in this kind of field... how about comparing Houdini to Nuke ?
nuke is more like compositing vfx software with dynamics whereas houdini would use to model, animate and calculate physics. Houdini stands out more in 3D dyynamics and particle system than nuke.
But pricewise and featurewise if said houdini is a better choice if anyone is working for 3D and not much on about vfx stuff.
guys, I need your opinion about "Blender", I new to this, what best to start with for a beginner?
Yep blender is proper road to go.
All the simulations of water for finding dory was done in houdini. that's really amazing.
This is my favorite Houdini showreel because of the music.

😂nor really dude👌

Houdini is the best 3D program ever! And more importantly! its the best visual effects software ever! Houdini Forever
-Adds one geometry node- Why isn't it zootopia yet!?

Hahahahahahaha
it is incredible what you do with all those nodes.. thanx
honestly I need 1 year to understand houdini's workflow, after that i realize that Houdini is awesome software
Whoa! I had to applaud those works! Man Houdini you the shit
Vex + Houdini = life 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Wow, I didn't knew Ajin was made with this program, it really do have a lot of possibilities doesn't it ?

Tutorials exist. Look for them. Not all are free but lots are.

Modeling in Houdini is not as quick as in other packages.
Gavin Downes but it has many benefits... One thing is that everything is procedural and can be made parametric.

Fantastic reel, I to am wondering about soundtrack?
I should have watched the credits... by the end there it say www.videohelper.com :)
Did you know the name of the Soundtrack
Titan (MAIN), Titan (BACKGROUND) - VH 048, Trk 39 and 100, and Black Diamonds VH 40 Trk 57. :) They answer really quick if you need any search.
Thanks. Now I want to know where are all of these from.
what a greatness
Name of the video 0:50?
Amazing! What is the first soundtrack?
0:11 wait is that from the release trailer for escape from tarkov?
what movie is that? 1:35 (Eiffel Tower)
But guys, was this all done in Houdini without 3rd Party Plugins?
considering the crap that the SFX in Ghostbusters got, perhaps it should have stayed out of the reel.
SFX are not VFX, houdini has nothing to do with sound lol
in any case, the presence of Ghostbuster hurt the presentation. ignoring the fact that the movie kinda looks like shit compared to anything else produced on the market (the ghost in Ghostbuster are some of the worse CGI out there considering the budget and origin of movie).

yeah yeah. back in my day SFX meant Special Effects. You kids with your lousy new terms.
/shakes fist at clouds

Houdini is like the cousin of 3ds max that the family talks about having a degree and is better than you in general.
Was this all this made in houdini
