Ben The Coin Geek
Old Pueblo Coin
Great assortment of German Thalers. The first one from Nuremberg commemorates the end of the "War of Seven Years" (1756-63), better known in the U.S. as "The French and Indian War". Greets from GER, U.
Very cool introduction to these old coins. Those edges are cool.
Very cool coins! Thanks for showing
I love the old world coin artistic designs.
I really enjoy these coins!
City Views . . . . I know of one collector that does the commemorative 'double Thalers', then travels to the city itself and finds the position the engraver stood at in order to render the basic design. The architecture in most cases remains . . . . . . .
Those coins are HUGE !!!
Damn you, Ben! More interesting coins for me to investigate for my collection.😂😎
Tolle Stücke! Vorallem der Konventionster 1770 von August Phillip 4:09 finde ich sehr interessant !
Been waiting for this video! Great info as always!
Awesome stuff.
Very cool thank you
Probably not much left of the city view of Regensburg as it was heavily bombed in WW2.
Great video of coins that many aren't familiar with!
Now you know what it used to look like
@@TheCoinGeekthe Ferdinand iii thaler it's for sale?
Really nice. I also like the city view ones
The older coins definitely seem to have way better designs
This is another coin I keep telling myself that I'm going to get an example of and keep finding other coins to buy. One of these days...
Great stuff-would love to start collecting some foreign stuff (preferably slabbed) since i know nothing of the non US stuff…gotta get some good books too.
Cool history
Very interesting, thanks Ben. Does anyone ever get CAC green stickers on ANACS graded coins? If so what does that do to a coins value?
Second coin is Netherlands (Dutch) not Danish (Denmark) Ben..
Different countries..
Nice selection of low grade Thalers. No mention the word "dollar" originates from the word "Thaler?" BTW, the 24MG = 2/3 Thaler.
HaHa!! “24 pack”. He’s even got the number 24 right next to his ripped abs.
What’s not to love …
I love these old German coins. What are your thoughts about getting these slabbed? It seems the Europeans don't like slabs as much as we do in USA. Thanks for making this video!
Curious why you prefer them slabbed? I always buy NGC but i always busy them open with a rock 🪨 haha. For me I really like to be able to see them and touch them as coins. I’ve seen many people do prefer them slabbed so curious about why.
@@trevorv9218 , you misunderstood my comment. I'm asking Ben about getting these Thalers slabbed for the American market, not because I like them slabbed, but because it seems that buyers in this country (USA) prefer slabbed coins, and they seem to command higher prices here. I agree with your preference for NGC for these old-time foreign coins in slabs. If I buy them in the slab, they generally stay in the slab. If I buy them raw, only very rarely do I get them slabbed. And if I do get them slabbed, it's always NGC.
One last thought... I've found that European auctions are a great place to find coins like this. And they rarely have these kinds of coins slabbed, but they're catering to the European market. I've been collecting thalers and other German states coins for about 15 years, and I've noticed that I'm starting to see more slabs show up in the European auctions. I'm hoping it's not a trend, and that the Europeans maintain their preference for raw coins. To me, the slabbed coins don't seem to command as much of a premium in the European auctions as they do here, but that's just an impression, I don't have any data to back it up. So I was hoping to hear Ben's take on it.
Hey Ben
Your a funny wise guy
Hi, Ben. I will stick to American foreign coins.
What's an American foreign coin?
Bwahaha
Anything minted in San Francisco…pretty foreign to me.
@@TheQuickSilver101 Canadian, Mexican, Central, and South American.
As a Dane I feel DISGUSTED that you would think we would make any thalers that ugly! The lion daalder is DUTCH - not Danish! 😩
hahaha 😂
What is a Wildman supposed to represent? A forest god?
😝
My ‘houseboy’ thaler is so fat it shattered the holder.
