I used to work for Vera Bradley in one of the stores for 7 years before our store shut down. One of the reasons I stayed so long was because of the deep discounts and free products they would give us but we could all see how the quality continued to keep getting worse and worse over the years. Seeing this rebrand is so interesting to watch in real time and unfortunately my old coworkers and I agree that this was a terrible decision they made as a company. It's not worth the price alone but the fact that they removed so many functional features is a shame on top of it too.
I went to the store this weekend. I was interested in the banbury mini backpack. It's 85 dollars for the nylon twill, but it feels so thin and cheap compared to the fabrics on the past. My bf said for 85 bucks you have cuter bags at home. So I just left it.
I agree with you completely. I’m in my seventies, and have been a loyal customer of VB for many years. I have seen a few of the new pieces, and I don’t like them. I especially don’t like the string straps they’re using now, instead of the signature fabric straps. I also like to have everything match. I read that they are now targeting women between 35 and 55 years old. Seniors are still very much alive and active; and in many cases, we have more disposable income than middle age adults who are still raising families, and dealing with college expense. I think VB has fallen into the same trap that some other companies have recently. They may go the way of Bud Light, and that would be a shame.
I completely agree w u. I'm withing their target demographic but they really betrayed the customers that built that company and made it successful. Vera . Wow! Just wow! You can totally see the decline in the quality in that red duffel. That is crazy! Looks like it would rip the first time you filled it up! I have a grand weekender that I have had for about 7 years and that thing has gone through airport baggage, been filled to the point I can barely carry it, thrown around in the back of a truck, rained on, and on and on and that thing is still as sturdy and good as day 1! So sad to see such a decline in their products. Thanks for this comparison and really giving us the heads up. Also , I looked at the new patterns.. not for me. No thanks!
If anything i think they shld have really leaned into their quilted and cottage core/ shabby chic aesthetic. I completely agree. It was super popular with trendy girls both preppy and cottage core ones in particular. I think they will go out of business tbh

I also hate the string handles on the crossbody bags because I like having a wider strap not a string that looks like it gonna dig into me. I don’t appreciate them wiping away all the classic Vera for the new because I feel like they didn’t think about the long time fans and customers by doing it. I think in the long run it’s gonna be a continued loss in sales compared to gaining sales.
Great Video, thank you for doing it. IMO VB made a huge miscalculation with the way they went about this rebrand. I had about 5 items in my cart the night before the rebrand, but it was late and I had to get some sleep so I left it there expecting to go back to it the next night. I got the shock of my life when I did go back to it to find my cart had disappeared and so had the Vera Bradley I knew. I've been a loyal customer of there's for over 30 years and I'm extremely disappointed at this whole thing. I don't like the new patterns at all. I don't like that they've either removed crossbody straps or shortened them. Then on the new styles, they're small, like really small, and again, have short straps. So, after 30+ years as a faithful customer, I refuse to buy from them anymore....mostly because I can't find anything I really like. I hope you shipped the bags back.
I have written my opinion so many times now, I just don't have it in me right now. In general, it is horrible, awful. I feel betrayed. I agree with everything you said in your video, plus a thousand other things more. Not only did your cosmetic not come in that pattern in a large, it is that same issue all over the website for numerous products. It is so frustrating! I am not happy at all with anything they have done. I don't like any of their main prints and patterns, or any of their new styles. And even their leather is trimmed in PU material. The entire thing is just sad. Thank you for doing this comparison. This is a real eye opener! I hope a lot of people watch this video and see this side by side comparison.
VERA. Excellent comparison wow! The blue bag being structured is a must. I can’t pack a crumpled up mess of fabric that won’t keep its shape like the new red one. It won’t be enjoyable to use and go into look for your things when your traveling either. When I went into the store to look at some totes I immediately noticed the same thing the bags don’t stand up on their own. I started noticing that with the reconstituted cotton in the small & large Vera’s but they still kept somewhat of their shape though not as good as the past bags. I’m disappointed they don’t have matching small or mini cosmetic bags. The new store rebrand for me is not working out to well. I miss the matching accessories and all the things I was use to & loved about the brand. Honestly it seems un-recognizable.
Kristin, thank you for making this video and for being honest! My experience with the brand is similar to yours, in that I longed for a Vera Bradley bag for years before I ever had one. An observation: it looks like the new one has thinner padding. At first I thought it wasn't even quilted at all, whereas the "classic" duffel looks like it has nice, plump quilting. It also looks like the inside pockets on the "classic" style have two columns of vertical stitching, which of course would give them more stability. A few years ago, I checked my Vera Bradley duffel on an international flight through four different airports, and not only did it hold up, so did everything inside it. I threw it in the washing machine and it was ready to go on its next trip. I can't see this new design being able to withstand that.

It looks like there is no piping on the end of the bag. That would also be another reason why it wouldn’t stand up like the blue one. I’d send it back if it doesn’t meet your standards and won’t meet your needs. Quality is what you want is you’re going to fork out that much of your hard earned money.
Not a fan of the new fabrics at all. Design patterns are too big and bold compared to OG delicate patterns. Looks like patterns you find at Target or Walmart for about $35-$40. Wonder what it’s like when filled. Thanks for doing the comparison of these.
Agree, this was a super risky move for the brand, however, the fact that people were not paying full retail anymore…only wanting to buy on sale was telling for their brand as well. They will likely have to revert to some classic to keep their loyal customers and add new collections to attract a customer who will pay up for new. Great video.
Not sure if you know how to sew, but 'By Annie' has many similar style bag patterns & you can buy fabric at a local fabric store (or I can recommend a couple of online fabric stores) & all of the accessories (buckles, clear vinyl, etc) at the same places. I'm sure in the end, you could make them for less than the retail price, just to have the 'name'. Just a thought & then you could make all of your pieces match.

Vera Bradley had been a dream of mine since early 2000. I’m glad I was able to get some key pieces before this change. I honestly would have been ok with them adding to the brand, but to abandon all the classics and then replace with cheaper material is so disappointing. 🤦🏾♀️
Wow, I’ve been a Vera Bradley fan for years and am so sad to see the decline in quality. I have a large duffel that I’ve used over a decade and it still looks great. I’ve since switched to Lug bags for totes and travel accessories.
You are so right. The 70’s called and they want their bags back. Like you I have been a fan since college and even sold Vera at a store I worked in. I kind of think it it isn’t broken don’t fix it!
Vera. This is a great video and I appreciate the side by side comparison. I’m not gonna lie, I have a bit of a love hate relationship with Vera. I was getting tired of the paisley and maybe I was a little rough(?) but I didn’t feel the cotton held up well for what it cost. I like the nylon fabric for my sling bag- it seems to stay cleaner than the cotton. I’m happy that I was able to snag the Beaty and the beast backpack on sale and am eyeing the Cinderella one too!
The last thing I bought from Vera Bradley was the Ravenclaw zip Id case and then a cosmetic bag that's all plastic for my feeding tube supplies for taking my medicine it's been a few years. I haven't Gotten anything from Vera Bradley in a long time. I've used vera Brady medium cosmetic bag for my medicine pouch and it lasts a few years and then I replace it. So now seeing that they've changed the cosmetic bags I'll be probably just get a clear see though one at like Walmart or something once my vera Bradley one bites the dust.
I have always loved Vera Bradley , although couldn’t afford them when I was younger. My daughter went to an outlet and bought my very first one. Very sad to hear of this change!

Oh my gosh I remember purchasing my first Vera Bradley Duffle!! I had a summer internship and that felt like my first "big kid" purchase. I wish I kept that bag now. I still have a few pieces, but now don't know if I'll be ordering more. I'll have to go to the outlet!
This is why I’m mad at Erin Condren this year too. I didn’t like the designs so I bought the canvas but they limited the offerings for canvas. I also usually buy bags and accessories but I didn’t like anything this year
Not good at all. Outlet was a huge disappointment too. They didn’t have any of the new stuff and the prints were not cute. Plus, didn’t have my petite zip around wallet. 🤦🏼♀️

Been waiting for this video, since you announced you'd be making it (once you got the order). Really appreciate you doing this direct comparison between pre-rebrand & post-rebrand VB pieces/styles. Thank you for keeping it real :) While I can imagine there may be a few improvements in some areas, for the most part I'm unhappy with what I've seen of the new stuff...esp. the shorter straps & handles, rolled stringy straps with knots as adjusters (instead of wide flat straps with metal sliding adjusters), buttons that fall off instead of zipper closures, and so on. That new mesh (on inside pocket) looks like it might also be the different mesh inside redesigned version of Cord Organizer-I liked the old mesh better.

Along time ago Vera Bradley had bigger dimend stitching and a few year's ago they switched to the smaller dimends stitching and now they changed it but but not for the better
I think it is really disappointing. I have also loved Vera for 25 years. Most of my travel accessories and wallets have been Vera but I will be looking for another brand. Time to go shop the outlet to stock up before the quality pieces are gone.
Vera Bradley is my favorite. I have many pieces and always keep them. That is all I use. I used them As diaper bags when my kids were babies. I use the triple zip crossbody as my purse always, turnlock wallet, teacher bag, pill sorter….so many things. But I never have paid full price. We live near an outlet store so everything is super super cheap and honestly cheaper than purses even at Walmart. I have never shopped the website so I can’t speak for that. It stinks that people that don’t have access to a store or outlet store can’t get matching pieces. I agree that most women want collections of the same print. I also agree the quality is not as good on the new items. I will stick to the old patterns just to keep the cotton material. I can look at the outlet store near me and see if they have the prints you need if you would like me to.
Oh Vera! I’m sad. Thank you for saving my wallet as well as time and frustration. I just purchased a wallet and loved it. Had been thinking of getting some travel items. Not even sure i want to go to the outlet get something i love and not be able to replace it in the future.
I'm so disappointed 😔. I like the wider adjustable shoulder straps and I have some favorite styles that I buy faithfully. No more triple compartment, Frannie, or On the go‼️ ugh
I feel Vera did a faster version of what JuJuBe has done. JJB has almost killed every single line - everything is soft and sloppy shaped now, with no cute fabrics or designs. It took them a few years to phase it out - but same as Vera for me.
I reckon it's that Bradley Weston guy they hired to join exec in Jan this yr. He's background is non existent in this space. Lol pets and sports! Weston served as the Chief Executive Officer of Party City Holdings, Inc., a role he assumed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic following a short period leading the company’s retail division. Previously, he spent seven years with Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. in roles of increasing responsibility from Chief Merchandising Officer to President and Chief Executive Officer. He also led the merchant organization at Dick’s Sporting Goods from 2008 to 2011 as Chief Merchandising Officer.
Vera. I’ve had a different experience with my rebrand haul. I have a large collection of Vera and have carried the totes and cosmetic bags for over 20 years. I agree with you that a lot of the prints had a 70’s vibe which I don’t like either. I ordered the backpack in the colorful bouquet and it is absolutely stunning. The material is wonderful and the colors are very vibrant. The function of the backpack is better than before with plenty of pockets and compartments. I have several other pieces in this print and in the wing and bloom print and the quality is great. I have a couple of the Cinderella and Magnifique pieces which I think are some of the best quality Vera has made and they may be a little better in stitching and fabric sturdiness. I have some older duffels and older backpacks and they are not of the quality of these prints I just mentioned. I think Vera is a hit or miss on quality over the years and perhaps on certain prints having a better fabric or dye process. I’m not sure if their materials or manufacture changes over the years due to costs, maybe? What I dislike though is they took all the old patterns off, no Vera logo, limited pattern pieces available, and my beloved turn-lock wallet is gone😩. Also the higher prices will keep me from purchasing as frequently. Bottom line, I think they took a huge risk to gain a younger crowd but have lost a majority of the backbone clientele that has supported them for all these years. I’m happy so far with the pieces I have but I do feel like it’s a whole new brand. I hope they find a middle road.
Alot of my vera Bradley items I've gotten from the thrift store so for me I haven't slept Alot of money on my VB items the things I brought off VB site in the past i didn't pay full price using I've used b'day coupons and sales.
This rebrand is the absolute death of Vera Bradley. Really sad. Someone start a business!! Bring back the gorgeous old country French patterns of the 1980's and 90's that were like Ralph Lauren bedding. It all goes for $$$ at auction and has for years. April Cornell has poor color theory, otherwise it would be more tempting. Someone could bank using 100% cotton, YKK zippers and beautiful colors.
All the new items look like they are cheap and mass produced, sadly I think they have ruined their brand by trying to go cheap on materials and mass production
The new one does not have d-rings so a shoulder strap cannot be added. I don’t like the “silly” texture, that seems thin, cheap and makes the “nylon” sound of a cheap bag that the lining is thin & going to tear quickly and In my opinion it would have to be babied. It doesn’t hold its shape on its own, I think it will be worse if it has to be washed. I really like my “original” Vera Bradley pieces, they hold up really well, go through the laundry and are a quality items that I feel were worth the money. I also want my pieces to match & look like a set, I don’t want a mismatched set, I want the pattern I choose for all my items - it looks put together. I guess I better got up the outlet before I can’t get any of the “old” patterns and materials. (I cannot stand that nylon rubbing noise).
@@TheGoldProject I am going to pick some things out for my daughter so she has an original “set”, definitely worth spending an extra $20 on a quality piece, we spend way more than that on one trip to McDonalds.
This rebrand is very disappointing. I’m a huge Vera fan, but I don’t like anything I’ve seen so far. This video just confirms for me that I may be done buying from them. It’s unfortunate.
The quality for the last 5-10 years has been horrible When I compare my really old VB bags to the current in the store the quality of the fabric, handles, and just overall sewing of bag is terrible.
VERA. I never bought at retail, I have only purchased at the outlet. I noticed when shopping there earlier this summer, that the stuff in the outlet is not washable! Why buy a fabric bag if you can’t wash it???? I think fabric gets so dirty and the whole allure of Vera was the wash ability. The new fabric is just yuk! The quality stinks especially at the outlet but this video says it all about retail quality. Another brand that I think will not make it for the long haul with these changes!

I have seen so many people complaining about the crossbody bags and the straps. No one is happy.

I noticed the same thing from the company I order clothes from. The fabrics feel cheaper and thinner. I think they do this to keep prices down

The last thing I bought from Vera Bradley was the Ravenclaw zip Id case and then a cosmetic bag that's all plastic for my feeding tube supplies for taking my medicine it's been a few years. I haven't Gotten anything from Vera Bradley in a long time. I've used vera Brady medium cosmetic bag for my medicine pouch and it lasts a few years and then I replace it. So now seeing that they've changed the cosmetic bags I'll be probably just get a clear see though one at like Walmart or something once my vera Bradley one bites the dust.

Oh my gosh I remember purchasing my first Vera Bradley Duffle!! I had a summer internship and that felt like my first "big kid" purchase. I wish I kept that bag now. I still have a few pieces, but now don't know if I'll be ordering more. I'll have to go to the outlet!

This is why I’m mad at Erin Condren this year too. I didn’t like the designs so I bought the canvas but they limited the offerings for canvas. I also usually buy bags and accessories but I didn’t like anything this year

Not good at all. Outlet was a huge disappointment too. They didn’t have any of the new stuff and the prints were not cute. Plus, didn’t have my petite zip around wallet. 🤦🏼♀️

Wow. Vera. Glad I watched this but man I’m bummed I didn’t buy up any of the old however I had no idea they were rebranding. They’ll regret this. I’m gonna look at Stoney Clover for sure now
Been waiting for this video, since you announced you'd be making it (once you got the order). Really appreciate you doing this direct comparison between pre-rebrand & post-rebrand VB pieces/styles. Thank you for keeping it real :)
While I can imagine there may be a few improvements in some areas, for the most part I'm unhappy with what I've seen of the new stuff...esp. the shorter straps & handles, rolled stringy straps with knots as adjusters (instead of wide flat straps with metal sliding adjusters), buttons that fall off instead of zipper closures, and so on.
That new mesh (on inside pocket) looks like it might also be the different mesh inside redesigned version of Cord Organizer-I liked the old mesh better.
I don’t like any of the new stuff. Don’t like the new website either. It’s clunky and unorganized making it difficult to find things.

Along time ago Vera Bradley had bigger dimend stitching and a few year's ago they switched to the smaller dimends stitching and now they changed it but but not for the better

I think it is really disappointing. I have also loved Vera for 25 years. Most of my travel accessories and wallets have been Vera but I will be looking for another brand. Time to go shop the outlet to stock up before the quality pieces are gone.

As diaper bags when my kids were babies. I use the triple zip crossbody as my purse always, turnlock wallet, teacher bag, pill sorter….so many things. But I never have paid full price. We live near an outlet store so everything is super super cheap and honestly cheaper than purses even at Walmart. I have never shopped the website so I can’t speak for that. It stinks that people that don’t have access to a store or outlet store can’t get matching pieces. I agree that most women want collections of the same print. I also agree the quality is not as good on the new items. I will stick to the old patterns just to keep the cotton material. I can look at the outlet store near me and see if they have the prints you need if you would like me to.

Oh Vera! I’m sad. Thank you for saving my wallet as well as time and frustration. I just purchased a wallet and loved it. Had been thinking of getting some travel items. Not even sure i want to go to the outlet get something i love and not be able to replace it in the future.

I feel Vera did a faster version of what JuJuBe has done. JJB has almost killed every single line - everything is soft and sloppy shaped now, with no cute fabrics or designs. It took them a few years to phase it out - but same as Vera for me.
I have to have all matching items, too! 😂 I do not like the re-brand. I have been buying vintage ('08) patterns on ebay.
I reckon it's that Bradley Weston guy they hired to join exec in Jan this yr. He's background is non existent in this space. Lol pets and sports! So disappointed in Vera Bradley! Everything looks so cheaply made. Huge mistake on the VB brand, in my opinion.
Vera. I’ve had a different experience with my rebrand haul. I have a large collection of Vera and have carried the totes and cosmetic bags for over 20 years. I agree with you that a lot of the prints had a 70’s vibe which I don’t like either. I ordered the backpack in the colorful bouquet and it is absolutely stunning. The material is wonderful and the colors are very vibrant. The function of the backpack is better than before with plenty of pockets and compartments. I have several other pieces in this print and in the wing and bloom print and the quality is great. I have a couple of the Cinderella and Magnifique pieces which I think are some of the best quality Vera has made and they may be a little better in stitching and fabric sturdiness. I have some older duffels and older backpacks and they are not of the quality of these prints I just mentioned. I think Vera is a hit or miss on quality over the years and perhaps on certain prints having a better fabric or dye process. I’m not sure if their materials or manufacture changes over the years due to costs, maybe? What I dislike though is they took all the old patterns off, no Vera logo, limited pattern pieces available, and my beloved turn-lock wallet is gone😩. Also the higher prices will keep me from purchasing as frequently. Bottom line, I think they took a huge risk to gain a younger crowd but have lost a majority of the backbone clientele that has supported them for all these years. I’m happy so far with the pieces I have but I do feel like it’s a whole new brand. I hope they find a middle road.

Alot of my vera Bradley items I've gotten from the thrift store so for me I haven't slept Alot of money on my VB items the things I brought off VB site in the past i didn't pay full price using I've used b'day coupons and sales.
This rebrand is the absolute death of Vera Bradley. Really sad. Someone start a business!! Bring back the gorgeous old country French patterns of the 1980's and 90's that were like Ralph Lauren bedding. It all goes for $$$ at auction and has for years. April Cornell has poor color theory, otherwise it would be more tempting. Someone could bank using 100% cotton, YKK zippers and beautiful colors.
All the new items look like they are cheap and mass produced, sadly I think they have ruined their brand by trying to go cheap on materials and mass production

The new one does not have d-rings so a shoulder strap cannot be added. I don’t like the “silly” texture, that seems thin, cheap and makes the “nylon” sound of a cheap bag that the lining is thin & going to tear quickly and In my opinion it would have to be babied. It doesn’t hold its shape on its own, I think it will be worse if it has to be washed. I really like my “original” Vera Bradley pieces, they hold up really well, go through the laundry and are a quality items that I feel were worth the money. I also want my pieces to match & look like a set, I don’t want a mismatched set, I want the pattern I choose for all my items - it looks put together. I guess I better got up the outlet before I can’t get any of the “old” patterns and materials. (I cannot stand that nylon rubbing noise).

VERA. I never bought at retail, I have only purchased at the outlet. I noticed when shopping there earlier this summer, that the stuff in the outlet is not washable! Why buy a fabric bag if you can’t wash it???? I think fabric gets so dirty and the whole allure of Vera was the wash ability. The new fabric is just yuk! The quality stinks especially at the outlet but this video says it all about retail quality. Another brand that I think will not make it for the long haul with these changes!
