    Hey, the knife looks like it was clamped parallel to the straight portion of the secondary bevel. If you draw a line from the tip to the Ricasso the bevel will be more uniform in width.
    (On some blades the tip end flairs out wider). This might not be an issue for short length knives. Great job on the video. 😎👍

    I have this knife and it is so unique feeling. The blade feels like glass, and the edge feels so rough. Saying its like a chainsaw is very accurate. It doesn't like cutting paper or shaving, but when I use it on carboard it feels like it pulls itself in like a saw more than a knife. Really cool stuff

      Yeah super interesting steel. I found when using low grit the burr and apex seemed to chip on me but going up in grit man it is some aggressive stuff. All those carbides. The rex121 I tested the edge on months ago just wouldn’t die.

    I have had some "trouble" sharpening 121. It doesn't get super sharp, and it feels like a chainsaw. I think I just have to accept that it isn't like other steels. The fine edge goes away almost immediately, but the working edge lasts forever. It doesn't like to cut paper like most of us do to test our knives and I think it is just the chainsaw like edge from all the carbides.

      Given the steel, the factory edge might last a year or more, depending on usage, in any case, more than any other steel!

      It’s very prone to micro chipping, I tried to see if mine would scratch glass and had micro chipping right away 🤷‍♂️ trust me I was bummed about it, I was really gentle too!

    • @jimmys249
      @jimmys249 11 дней назад

      Guys, if you see damage on your edge from TRYING TO SCRATCH GLASS, do not tell people the steel is "prone to chipping". This is the hardest, most carbide rich steel any of us have ever seen, but I bet it performs and behaves amazingly if your not doing things no knife should be able to do.
      Granted it's your knife, if you want to see what it can do that's rad. But be aware people will latch onto your words and repeat them.

    hey Tony :) did you find it chippy? i was struggling with this knife, using cbn plates, diamond plates and metal bonded diamonds too. its really sensitive to pressure. even with the lightest pressure on the stone caused small chips on my edge, i had to restart / fix those again and again. im curious what do you think (and please let me know what kind of stones you were using on this one :)

      I’m still figuring this one out. Burr felt weird so I’ll be redoing it. The northern knifeworks stinger in rex121 acted much more normal. But this damn steel has like 24% carbides. But I’ll make an update video as I keep trying. I am happy with the edge but I feel like I can do better
      Also for this video and most work
      I use Hapstone metallic bonded cbn

    I hear people say not to slide the stone off the tip of blade, to stop and lift when tip is at middle of stone. Does this matter when using that machine?

    • @KnifeNinjaEDC
      @KnifeNinjaEDC  Месяц назад

      It’s all a means to the same end. To keep from rounding off the sharp tip. Once your muscle memory gets better you can be a little less.. careful if that’s the right word but it’s a good rule of thumb to not let more than half of your stone go past the tip while at that end
