Thank you for this! I didn't know what kind of base to build, and as a result I would never get very far, most of my worlds I end up dying to something stupid and losing everything before I even hit day 7. Now I can finally do it properly.
Try taking a look at my play through. I create a similar but more effective day by day 7 made of cobblestone. It is completely effective, efficient, and last through 5 or more hordes. Here is a link to the first episode. ruclips.net/video/boxzK-FrTr8/видео.html
Nice! I like hoe you just go out of your way on day 316 just to show the newer players to building 7 day horde bases how to build a simple base that is effective and efficient, my favorite part was the room where you would kill the zombies! Very creative and nice of you to do this!
That style looks easy to build , thanks for the tour . The server you are on has bases ALL over the place , I bet others on server with you absolutely love it they have a nice place to head when the forget the time .
Thanks for checking it out! There are several of us building bases all over the map. I may have to show off some of the others bases sometime. OldCrowExpress has a really cool base with a bridge that goes over water for at least a mile or so. This area that you see in the videos mostly consist of my base builds for youtube.
Grand Spartan I would love to see a "server tour" video , if you don't mind doing and the others don't mind you doing it . That would be wicked to see others' style builds on server you play .
Nice simple design, shouldn't be too difficult to gather the material needed. I really love the supply crates that can be reached from the crafting room, nice touch!
Thank you for the sub. Check out my more recent videos with improved graphics and audio. The game has been changed quite a bit since this video was created almost two years ago. Here is a link to my most recent designs. ruclips.net/video/hjPSa7Utoyk/видео.html
Love your videos im trying out several of the bunkers as we speak. I think ive seen you in twitch chat channels before i used to be in Nixit's channel alot, Screech. Keep the vids coming!
Thanks man! Yeah, that we me. Used to hang out in Nixit's channel all the time when he was playing 7dtd. Going to have to drop by and say hi sometime soon.
I really appreciate these vids m8 Ive been trying to figure out how to build a bit better and i normally do a hobbit hole but i never thought to do it in this game for some reason
I am going to be streaming and I have been looking for a base design to use on a new world and this is perfect man. Thanks I’ll shout you out when I start up my stream.
Really enjoy your videos! I've been able to use a lot of the tips you've given to help greatly improve my bases and survivability. The base I built using your underground base with kill pit was so effective on the seven day horde I only had to clear 5-6 zombies from my pit. The rest died on the spikes. Granted I may have gone a little overkill with the spikes, but it worked! If I can ever build up the ambition to research how to make my own videos and upload them to RUclips, I'll be sure to give you credit for the build inspiration. :)
There are many different early base designs. I once survived the first 3 horde nights (7, 14 and 21) perched on a water tower plinking at the bad guys. The beauty of this design is in the fact that you can kill every single zombie with just melee weapons. The second major boon is that you can loot everyone. From day 7 horde to 49 and beyond. Another boon is that you can actually repair your spikes during the fight, keeping their effectiveness at peak level for the whole duration of the onslaught. A base design that will last you a 'lifetime'. Good job, Spartan! P.S. I am at day 140 so have seen all the hordes. Twice, and then some.
Deserved. Also, thank you for the wonderful idea for the minibike underground garage..er...entrance (from your Temple Of Doom base design). I don't know who's idea it was originaly, so I will just give you the credit. It really solved a major dilemma for me. I always wanted an underground garage (I'm a dwarf, it's stronger than me), but I hated the idea of any sort of 'bustable' door above the surface. All from my large base that stands above the surface is the central 'funnel' (sniper tower) with the porkchop grill bars. A really bleak show of power, but boy, am I happy to see it after several days of off-base foraging! :)
Great design! I also have an idea about the storage chest for looting, you should try to put them 1 more block underneath and then put a trap door for protection against the cop zombies when they spit.
After seeing your video on speed building the endgame bunker, it would be awesome to see a speed build of this as well! btw, new subscriber here! love your channel :)
I'm a pretty slow player, but if you get enough experience it's not so difficult to build a small surrounding wall of reinforced concrete before day 7. I made a 2 block high 7x7 wall of reinforced concrete that held together till morning. I made it initially because it will also be the central location of my zombie death traps. A 15x15 sized area of 16 total fall pits surrounding the central location with spin blades and trap wires at the bottom of each. Hopefully I will have at least one or two working by day 14.
Really love your design! I am building it right now, but i am concerned about the fact that crawlers seem to able to fit beneath the wood pole of the spike pit. This is tough, since zombies will lose their legs first. Is there any way to counter this?
I have never had a zombie come through the 50 pillars or 1/4 blocks. Back in A14 I did have a couple ferals glitch through the pillars, but they had not lost their legs, they were running at the time they glitched through. This was fixed not long after.
Hey Grand Spartan I am new to this channel and so far I am liking it and I truly like the base design. I was wondering if you might want to show us what the horses will do to your based and how well they can defend then again I am very new and may have missed a vid. I am new to the game and want to see how well these bases are built and possibly make one someday.
Also, the wood blocks are only going to hold for the 7 day and 14 day horde. By day 21 you should at least have a small bit of concrete to apply the upgrades I will show in the upcoming video. Wood blocks will not hold up to a constant onslaught of ferals and cops.
Funny you should say that. This is the base that I build and use to take on the first horde attacks. Here is a link to the Let's Play series episode 1. ruclips.net/video/boxzK-FrTr8/видео.html
I made a spike repair system like the one in the video from underneath, but i think the floor underneath was too close to the spikes and the cop zombies killed me when the blew up. How far down do u have to be for the explosions to not hurt you.
Do you ever have any issue of the zombies attacking the hatch at ground level? I would have thought they would hit that since it's technically the only route to get to where you are, since they can't fit through the pillars... (haven't tried this design, looks pretty awesome though, will definitely keep it in mind next fresh game!)
I have never in seen a zombie attack a hatch outside of a cop. If you are standing right under a hatch and have been spotted by a cop, they will shoot their projectile down at the hatch and damage it. As for other zombies, they do not dig or attack downward. Here are a couple videos demonstrating that. ruclips.net/video/jAW2J_flSek/видео.html ruclips.net/video/JFHlqNytgvE/видео.html
Your design is so slick and smooth .. I have no idea how you keep everything so straight..When I dig down its always the earth shift not always as I wish..creating weird uneven forms.. If you can share this basic would be appreciated! Other then that how did you do those fine walls? are those wood frames you placed on top of each other? I want to have my hatch like you have, neatly on the ground level..it dosen't work..it always(the hatch) falls down and break unless I have 2 frames awkwardly placed beside it above it for support..how can I place it straight so it will be even to the surface? Also do you start with the pit..then create the tunnel or vice versa? I did a tunnel first and i found myself confused where I should go up for the pit.. I know its all very basic but that's why i'm a new player ;p Do you recommend playing without zombies till I get the hang of it?
You have to install your ladder before putting the hatch over the hole or it will fall through. Check out the speed build to this video. You can change the speed to 0.25 or pause as needed . ruclips.net/video/wZRCNgT_v94/видео.html
Thank you very much :) Hope I finally could have a fighting chance, when the horde comes! p.s. Also wanted the measurements, but found it in one of the comments.
how many wood did you use, and what how many days this base can be build? is it not pain in the ass to gather such tremendous amount of wood before day 7?
If you take a look at the first 7 days of my Let's Play series, you can get a good understanding of how I am able to create something like this, or better, for your first horde.
Spikes are now like 200 wood a piece :/ Have yet to figure out the new quality system, my items are perpetually locked at 25 now since the latest update
Honestly, all I've been doing for 4 hordes now is blocking my front door with scrap blocks and shooting zombies from above my porch through bars, it's worked great, except that I can't loot bodies...
Thanks! I am using a nail gun for the spikes and an auger for the digging. This base is no longer valid for Alpha 16, as it was built way back on alpha 14. Check out my Grand Spartan Base Design Playlist for updated designs. ruclips.net/video/voX2a0a7m0E/видео.html
on day 3, think ill make aversion of this... hopefully i can make it in time cause i wasted all my time trying to get leather for a forge and havent been grinding out much at the start like a normally do
I like the design but as others have stated it's not as easy now plus the one thing i still am terrible at in 7DTD is the whole digging underground.....i end up with spaces that blocks wont fit and then there's no way to go back and fix it lol....wish dirt/roads broke off in a square shape instead of a diamond like shape....all well.
This was an Alpha 14 design. The steel tools would not be an issue, but the placement of all the small wooden spikes very early game could be. On my Alpha 15 series, I show how I would go about starting out early game with a new style bunker that can be achieved by day 7 and improved by day 14 and so on.
I'll have to check it out then, been playing this game for a while and it's interesting to see bases similar to mine, not having looked on RUclips. Tho this one was very unique.
The standard concrete pillar should have 3k hitpoints. If you upgrade that to reinforced, it will have 6k. It sounds like you may have mad a cobblestone pillar with the 1500.
Spikes must not be placed above ground level, because zbes begin crushing them staying apart. You have to dig one block down. Then zbes have a chance to step onto spikes. Wire of scrap metal help spikes to dispatch more damage. 5 spike rows plus wire are able to demolish couple of dozens of soldier zombies!
The spikes on PC will be destroyed whether they are on the surface or one block below. As soon as they do damage to anything, be it yourself or a zombie, they will begin to deplete. They only deal out a few hits before being completely destroyed. If you are playing on console, then you are still on the old spike system. They cost 100 wood per spike and are destroyed very quickly on Alpha 15. You must put mass amounts of them out to accomplish anything. On PC, one soldier zombie on insane, will walk over several while they are being destroyed without dying. They one perk to the new spikes is that it only takes one click from the nail gun to repair them now.
eh I like my system got 5 walls with spikes so you can go on the walls and fight the hoard from there and my brother up in my sniper tower to snipe the ones comeing a different way and helping me fight the one comeing at my way
I have never had zombies attack a hatch in over 4k hours of play. Just make sure you don't put it right next to where you're standing during horde night. A cop could potentially explode or shoot down and destroy it.
Though I agree that techinically it is a hole in the ground, the alternative here is that you are using half the resources to achieve a similar result. The hole in the ground builds require a large amount of resources to be effective, which is not possible early game.
Hey David. Appreciate the comment. I really don't do any PvP. The server I rent is just a bunch of friends I survive with. With all the hacks and glitches being exploited, I can't imagine many base designs that would be effective on a PvP server. The experience I do have with PvP servers is simple. I dig a hole and build my base underground with no sign of a base anywhere. When I come out each morning at 4 am, I cover that hole with dirt/stone, so that no one knows where I am located. This is usually off the grid somewhere as well. Best advice I have for PvP at least for now.
Grand Spartan That is what I have been doing. I sometimes make above ground horde bunkers, but that is it. I also learned the hard way that you never connect your bedrock level tunnel to a prefab.....
There had to be an uneven block of terrain for them to break something directly above you. Make sure you take frames, place them and pick them up. This will make the terrain even so that they have no blocks to attack. Check out this episode in my Let's Play series. I use a similar but upgraded version of this base on the first day 7 horde. It works like a charm. ruclips.net/video/Noe1l6mmyzo/видео.html
If you have an uneven dirt block attached to your base edge, they will be able to dig that out and get at your bunker. Make sure you lay out frames, or do what I do, and place an extra block of concrete down around the outer lip of your base. You could use a concrete plate as well.
So i have a bunker base and its pretty secure so here's the coordinates if you wanna try it out but make sure you have good materials to get in! 69 south 1100 west
Well at the early stage of the game I'm pretty sure you have a natural garden of trees right next to your base :P (if biome is forest). Just saying the absurd number though. We all have builds that works xD.
Once you cut those, they are gone. You need a replenishable source of trees to continue replacing those expensive spikes each horde. Having say 60 trees with a 4 block gap in between each, will ensure that you won't spend a whole day running around looking for trees that are fully grown to cut. They will all be grouped together, growing at the same pace, and right next to your base.
For new players, yes they will definitely rely on wood spike for a couple of weeks or two. By week 5 I'm sure everyone would have a forest next to their base lol.
This base is from over 3 years ago and no longer relevant for Alpha 18. Here is a base design playlist of mine with more recent uploads. ruclips.net/video/sN4D7mfJKes/видео.html
Here is the base you are talking about being built and in action against the horde. If you are playing on console, this design will still work. ruclips.net/video/wZRCNgT_v94/видео.html
You should absolutely have concrete by your second or third horde. If you watch my let's play series, you will see that I have a more impressive base than this one by the first, second, and third horde. From that point on, it is all steel.
I'm sure you know what you're doing. The problem I'm having is not with your knowledge, it's the name. When you say "Early Game Starter Base", one assumes that it is your first base. I came here to see what kind of a base one can have in the first few days. Because that's what the title implies. You have a nice base, and I've seen several of your other videos, maybe more than any other RUclipsrs that make 7D2D videos. It's just that the name is a bit misleading. That's all. Other than that, I appreciate your work. Thank you for the videos
this can easily be done in the first 7 days, upgrade it over time and slowly make verything metal and by day 21-35 make it all concrete. ME and my bf dont usually see cops until 21 or so, depends on how fast we level and how much we die
Just like all my other builds that are similar, I can 100% assure you that this will hold up to anything that the zombies can throw at it. Just because it is small doesn't make it ineffective. You would need to expand its size as you moved on throughout the 7 day hordes, but not by much. If you take a look at my other pillar builds, they are only a few spikes larger. I have a video posted with max zombie spawn on Insane difficulty. Not one spike was lost during the filming of that video ;)
I have looked at all your builds. And have even done one of my bases just like yours. I just like to see them under fire is all. I had sent you a PM a few days back but you never reply what's up with that?
I am working on doing a speed build of that base right now. As soon as I can get that completed, I will do a video of a horde attacking this base. The last horde glitched and was a no show. I have not received a "PM" from you @Fish Dip. Did you send it to me via Google+?
Very neat base design, I might borrow from that to test something similar in A15 :)
Cool man. I'd love to see what ya come up with and how it works out for you!
Here is a link to the first episode.

been watching some of your vids lately. great job keep up the good work!
Thanks!
love that new intro man and thank you, since my last server glitched on me I've been trying to think of a good starter base.
Thanks man! Hope this gives you some ideas on a new starter!

Figured it is better to put the wood poles in the middle, vertically. Just like the eventual design with the concrete poles.
I have never had a zombie come through the 50 pillars or 1/4 blocks. Back in A14 I did have a couple ferals glitch through the pillars, but they had not lost their legs, they were running at the time they glitched through. This was fixed not long after.

ok I guess you do have some horde nights but you should see how the wooden base does against a horde
There is a speed build with horde attack being uploaded as I type. Should be up later today.
+Grand Spartan sweet man
Also, the wood blocks are only going to hold for the 7 day and 14 day horde. By day 21 you should at least have a small bit of concrete to apply the upgrades I will show in the upcoming video. Wood blocks will not hold up to a constant onslaught of ferals and cops.
Love the new intro.
I want to see a play through useing this base design
Funny you should say that. This is the base that I build and use to take on the first horde attacks. Here is a link to the Let's Play series episode 1.

GOOD BASE
I miss these kinds of bases...
I made a spike repair system like the one in the video from underneath, but i think the floor underneath was too close to the spikes and the cop zombies killed me when the blew up. How far down do u have to be for the explosions to not hurt you.
Cops can get ya from a long ways away. The explosion radius for a cop is 3 blocks, so anything beyond that and you are safe.
+Grand Spartan alright thanks

I his on top of a building and blocked the ladder with two block of wood and they can't really get to me
Your voice is like butter.
when you want a column for your craft room why do you need a block column can't you make round ones
Great intro how did you make it and you deserve more subs btw
Thanks. I made it using a program call Blender.
how many wood did you use, and what how many days this base can be build? is it not pain in the ass to gather such tremendous amount of wood before day 7?

the stick spikes are so expensive in a15. though great starter base!
This build was actually done on A14. Though it is still viable, the spikes are very expensive now.
😊 i know thats why i was sad about the cost change

on day 3, think ill make aversion of this... hopefully i can make it in time cause i wasted all my time trying to get leather for a forge and havent been grinding out much at the start like a normally do
The easiest way to get leather is at homes, movie theaters, bookstores, etc.. Just take an axe to all the couches that are black.
How did you change the pillar to concrete without collapsing. Also do you have to rebuild the whole base or can you upgrade wood frame to concrete
I always upgrade one piece at a time. Wood frames can also be upgraded to concrete/steel.
Grand Spartan I couldn't figure out how to upgrade to cement from the wood frames any tips?
Make sure you have wood, scrap iron, and cement in your inventory when you click on the block to upgrade it.
thx
I like the design but as others have stated it's not as easy now plus the one thing i still am terrible at in 7DTD is the whole digging underground.....i end up with spaces that blocks wont fit and then there's no way to go back and fix it lol....wish dirt/roads broke off in a square shape instead of a diamond like shape....all well.
Jason Spirit It's "oh well" not "all well". All well doesn't even make sense.
does this build still work grand spartan ?
Interesting design but not sure how it would play on patch 15 on a new game, without steel tools. Plus wood spikes are pretty expensive now.
A little confused, I crafted two types of concrete pillar one has hitpoints of 1500 and another of 6000, where did I go wrong :(
The standard concrete pillar should have 3k hitpoints. If you upgrade that to reinforced, it will have 6k. It sounds like you may have mad a cobblestone pillar with the 1500.
On my Let's Play series, I start out will Cobble stone pillars for the first 7 day horde, and it works just fine.
Good vid
They one perk to the new spikes is that it only takes one click from the nail gun to repair them now.
do you know how expensive those spikes are?
Evenrik_22 100 now they used to be 4
eh I like my system got 5 walls with spikes so you can go on the walls and fight the hoard from there and my brother up in my sniper tower to snipe the ones comeing a different way and helping me fight the one comeing at my way
Hell yea!
Won't the zombies go for the ladder hatch?
I have never had zombies attack a hatch in over 4k hours of play. Just make sure you don't put it right next to where you're standing during horde night. A cop could potentially explode or shoot down and destroy it.
Thanks
What is the name of the song in the intro?
Sail by Awolnation
Thanks man and great video content.
what light did u turn off?
I may have turned off my mining helmet.
do a speed build on it
Sure a speed build would be nice.
I don't see floor doors in the crafting menu... Xbox one.
Hatch
Thanks man, this game's great.
whats the name of intro song
Pretty sure it's Sail (unlimited gravity remix) version.
How did u get level 600 auger?
We are on day 300+. Everything you have will be 600 by that time in the game and all necessary skills will be capped.
Can you make a tutorial
How cute.
Also its funny you say you do a lot of hole in the ground bases but this is a alternative. Yet its a hole in the ground base lol.
Though I agree that techinically it is a hole in the ground, the alternative here is that you are using half the resources to achieve a similar result. The hole in the ground builds require a large amount of resources to be effective, which is not possible early game.
can you speed builed plz
There is a speed build of this already up.
Starter or end game base for pvp (pve becomes pvp very often)
I also learned the hard way that you never connect your bedrock level tunnel to a prefab.....
love ur vidoes 1 sub to you
I tried this and some zombies decide to break the block right above me instead going to the pit :|

Oh, so they are attacking because the grass block besides the wood is uneven? :o wow, the more one know...
If you have an uneven dirt block attached to your base edge, they will be able to dig that out and get at your bunker. Make sure you lay out frames, or do what I do, and place an extra block of concrete down around the outer lip of your base. You could use a concrete plate as well.
I just have a compound with a tent in the middle right now
But now. .. can you go even smaller?? :p
That is about as small as I can get and still be able to farm zombies :)
Austin?
Texas?
So i have a bunker base and its pretty secure so here's the coordinates if you wanna try it out but make sure you have good materials to get in! 69 south 1100 west
Damn I'm bush league in this game
lol 15.0 wood spike cost a whooping 100 woods xD
If you build yourself a tree farm such as the one in my Let's Play, you will be able to make an almost unlimited supply of these spikes.
Be cool to see it in action... But whatever.
"Early Game" - Concrete
Lets see it under fire
Also, thank you for your support man. Appreciate you watching all the build videos and trying one of them out!
No I sent it on you-tube but I for got they don't tell you when you have a PM on YT. And its kind of hard to even find the msg box lol
