    • @BW022
      @BW022 Год назад

      Hardly. They have a 15 minute maximum flight time. Even at at top speed of 60mph, that is only a 7 mile return range. This assumes a straight line and maximum speed, the batteries hold a full charge in cold temperatures, you can transport this thing within a few miles of your search area, it can operate in high winds, you aren't going up or down repeatedly (say over rough terrain), etc. Even then... is only carries less than 180lbs and has not storage. So, even if it finds someone, it can't loiter or direct rescuers, transport someone away, or even drop any significant weight -- even a basic survival backpack could weigh 30+ lbs. As it is, you'd be far better off with a gas-powered drone -- cheater, lighter, longer range, less dangerous to operate, easier to transport, better optics, etc., etc.
      Sorry, they'd need to increase the flight time by at least a factor of ten and probably double the payload to have it even remotely effective. Even then, they'd still probably be better off with a cheater drone for scouting and an actual helicopter which can carry medical personnel, rescue people, rush them back to civilization, drop significant supplies, etc., etc.

    15 minutes might sound bad to some but it's really not terrible. Because it does fly, and can travel 60 mph, you can do in a solid straight line in a direction. Me driving to work takes almost 15 minutes, but if I traveled in a straight line at 60 mph there, it would probably only take 3 minutes.

    • @midgetman4206
      @midgetman4206 2 года назад +2

      @@andymanaus1077 I would change quite a bit more. Because I've commented basically the same thing a bunch already I'll just make a list instead.
      - ICE
      - Shrouds or ducts
      - Tilt-rotors
      - Wings
      Sure, these changes would reduce hover time but who would just stay in place the entire time? That just doesn't sound as fun. The changes would reduce noise in forward flight (due to slower prop speed), and the coverage would also help block some too. An ICE also increases range due to, well you know, fuel. And tilt-rotors can still perform VTOL and are also way cooler

    BTW - you can get a very similar experience (without the ability to hover, unless the wind is just right) by flying a paramotor. Also, you can get training and gear for under $15K. Quadcopter such as this 20 years or more.
    The design was more hang glider based so pilot was underneath and could drop away from airframe at the touch of a button.
    Saw this initially as a millitary concept rather than a safety feature.
    Troops could swarm in get dropped at objective whilst quadcopter stays on sentry duty till called in for pick up..
    I'm so excited for this as we are living that 1940/50's fantasy vision of the future I'm left pondering where will today's vision lead.

    • @cryptopolice6202

      It's because imagining end-results is always very easy. Actually realizing it is the difficult part.
      These ideas are often also based on things one picked up somewhere (sometimes even without realizing it).
      The first quadcopters were made well over 100 years ago, for example.
      That they start to develop electric concepts now, is because of better battery energy density, compared to decades ago. (and still aren't that great for flying right now, btw).
      So one simply couldn't even have made it work 20 years ago. :)

Also, rotors are bad for long flight anyways, tilt-rotors with some wings thrown in could improve range drastically while still retaining its VTOL capabilities (albeit even shorter due to more weight, but I would say it worth it. я подумал про другое, быстросъёмная батарея было бы не плохо, длительность полета сейчас оставляет желать лучшего, а если точки замены батарей будут на полностью заряженные - то уже другой разговор

    As an ultralight pilot, you have a amazing machine.

      No Mike, It is not going to be a Part 103 aircraft. Sorry

      @@vaughnbay actually it is an ultralight. But for 100 grand for a 15 min ride is insane. Not to mention that price is for the kit. You can get a mosquito helicopter for half that

      @@vaughnbay I have to disagree - I've read the entire Part 103 regs, only 2 pages, and don't remember anything that doesn't fit. There's no limitation on power source and there are already Part 103 helicopters.

      @@thewheelieguy it definitely is heavier than 254lb which is the upper limit of a part 103 ultralight

      @@Aviator168 The manufacturer lists the weight at 86 kg (190 lbs), which is less than 254lb last time I checked.
      edit: the weight even includes the ballistic parachutes, which are excluded in the part 103 weight restriction.
