    Awesome footage - can I ask how you found them? It's a big bay!

    Just discovered your channel. Excellent footage.
    Edit.) please don’t get upset with me, as I am a seafood lover. Would you be able to eat an essentially soft shelled spider crab if you snagged one as soon as it molted? I could not imagine deep frying crab legs that size!!!!!!!!

      Thanks for making an effort to comment...yes I think so but I never tried and would not ...as hard shell crabs they don't have a lot of meat inside them . Local divers here are extremely protective of these crabs so, around here we would not be encouraging this to happen.

      No, when a crab moults it has no meat on it, it is full of water - how do you think they get out of their shells???? There is no point in eating one. Help protect this unique mass migration event please.

      @@PangQuong Why are locals protective of this crab, seems have low economic value.

      Thanks for your comments This group was between Dromana and Sorrento, seen in the shallows. I know that's a large area but there would be at least 4 similar aggregations like that in that area. What's out deep is anyone guess There would be other groups on the other Queenscliff ..St Leonard side to. Contary to the narrative put forward for ever, these scenario can be seen from Jan to June

    Which time of the year is best to get these in port Phillip bay?

    • @PangQuong
      @PangQuong  2 года назад +1

      ....from many years of deliberate observation I believe you can find them in large groups from January to late June. But you will need a boat. The exception to this(i.e.need for a boat) is for the May or June Moult period when and if they get slowed down near a jetty. This makes them available to all for observations. Maybe even for 2-3 weeks ..Other wise they naturally will continually being moved on by the currents. This keeps them away from most diving enthusiasts.

    which pier ?

    • @PangQuong
      @PangQuong  2 года назад +1

      on this day this particular aggregations was not at or near a pier, groups seen near jetties except for the main moulting time, will stay for a day or so then move on. During their moulting times they usually stay for 2 -3 weeks. This will happen if they come to rest(and Moult) at a Jetty.
