Had a tanker company that put them in over a weekend drivers came in on Monday found a list of do's and don'ts. They all threw there keys in the flower bed in front of office. When bosses showed up and seen all trucks still parked they called the drivers to see why. 15 minutes later all camers were removed

Yes, you can see inward any time you want if you are a fleet manager. I personally put a strip of tape over all inward facing lenses, and told drivers not to remove the tape. Using terms like “company forcing drivers to sign for rear facing cameras”. Show me one driver that was forced to sign? Did they have a gun to their head saying they will be killed if they don’t sign? No. They willingly signed because humans are so brainwashed that everywhere they are giving their rights and freedom away because they allow fear to control them. Never be afraid to say no and put your job on the line. Especially when a company is violating rights and privacy. Know your worth and be willing to walk away with confidence even if you have no idea in the moment what your next move will be.

28 years as a driver was enough. We had 12 drivers all with an excess of 10 years on the job we had the best safety, and DOT record out of our national fleet, and we drove in the Northeast. They installed cameras and pushed their rules about driving habits etc. I retired, the rest of the guys left, told them to shove the cameras where the sun doesn't shine, and now they have all brand new rookie drivers. The safety record is shattered they have huge repair bills and they can't get anything delivered on time or even delivered because they cannot back into the hard customer's locations without hitting something or damaging the equipment.
These companies get what they deserve when they have chased all the professional drivers out.

These cameras and monitoring systems have been in trucks in Australia for a long time. With the newer systems there are no lights that indicate recording or not. Any idea that they recorded for eight seconds is BS they have the ability to record 24/7 for weeks and they do. They are also monitored in real time and that monitoring is outsourced to some dingy office in Mumbai. If an alert is triggered “someone” watches the video and watches you driving in real time and then has the authority to make a decision in regard to your fitness to drive. As these systems become the industry standard all of the good driver will find something else to do and the words “why can’t we find any good drivers” will be heard in management meetings everywhere. We were told it’s to improve driver safety but the truth is it’s to lower the insurance premiums. Enjoy!

Don't let these companies BS you. They can log in and pull snippets of footage whenever they like. "We can't see anything unless the camera is triggered by an event". Horseshit. Why would I get phone calls about something when the camera never experienced a triggering event? Melton was installing cameras back in 2012. They lied an did this. P&S/Blair does it although I had the camera removed when I signed my lease. JLE also called several times with non triggering events. Yeah, they can see any time they want. All my trucks had front cab curtains so I just closed them to cover it even though they can still hear. Those inward facing cameras don't need to be installed by the windshield. They should be installed on the passenger side near the corner near the cabinet and passenger door meet. That will prevent tampering of the camera but with the inner curtain pulled, won't allow them to see in the sleeper.

I have learned over the last few years that the cameras are set up differnt or maybe the restrictions are differnt in them. Even if the same brand and model. We have some cameras go off a lot and some not so much

In Cascadias, I use the ACC to maintain following distance whenever possible. Also, a warning comes on the dash and you have a few seconds to back off if you're following too close.

Keep in mind for a lot of these companies. It's not the company's making the choice. It's their insurance company requiring these cameras. Not all of them, but a lot of them are going that way.

Toxic companies harassing drivers, I am also in the same situation. My company is giving 3 day suspensions when I ask for a weekend off. They don't give me anything in writing they just won't dispatch me, when I call they tell me their slow meanwhile the other drivers are overwhelmed. I have stopped asking for time off because corporate called me regarding this matter. Saying I have taken 30% more time off than most drivers in my yard.

      Screw them.
They have the power to fire, and you have the power to quit.
      Exercise your quitting rights.
I would say to them...."My time off is none of your business. If you don't like it, I'm out."
I remember I wanted the 4th of July off one year. I put in for it like 3 months in advance.
About a week before my time off, they called.
"Uh. We can't give you the 4th off. If we have to work that day so do you"
      Was like...
"Ok. Fine. Then I'm putting in my last day worked notice, On July 3rd. Now you can work July 4th by yourself on the 4th of July every year." 😂

Fuck em'. I take whatever time off I want. That being said, I can get a job within like a day, and I have enough cash to cover me for like two years - so threats don't work.

sounds like it's time to come home and grab a local job. You'll be grateful to have your weekend time every weekend, plus you'll likely make more anyway.

Clean CDL with endorsements gets job offers in hours. Literally. Take a 1 day suspension before it’s over you’ll have your next job.
