My thanks to Richard at Traintrackr, check out their website, for this superb transport product!
Proud owner of a NYC board here. It was interesting during the height of the pandemic watching the board slowly go dark overnight for a system that normally runs 24/7. A temporary measure that was put in place for nightly disinfection.
Ooooh! I'm gonna buy the one for New York!
Might put it in a frame with a darkened plexiglass overlay with the lines painted on it...
I would love to get these but the devil in me is disappointed that there is no Waterloo and city line on it own 😂
lmaoooo
I like it! The original tube map was designed by Harry Beck, an technical draftsman, inspired by circuit diagrams and now the map has become a circuit.
That's briliant
His blue plaque is a few streets away from me. Near Leyton Midland Road
Harry beck’s design won 2 best British invention of the 21 century. first was the concord plane so you can imagine this little map is a big deal. Also many countries copy beck’s design
We bought one after watching this video and are very happy with it. Our unit was backordered when we placed the order. The company promised a certain delivery date and unit arrived right when they said it would. Setup was a bit tricky. It didn't work using two methods on my Android but finally worked using the "alternate" method on my Mac Mini. Just know you may have to read the install instructions carefully. Its beautiful and caused audible gasps in the room when it came on!
I have the UK weather map. It's a daily joy; most of the time, UK weather moves from west to east, so as the lights change it's easy to see the rain approaching about 30 mins before it happens.
Have you got large or small and I presume colour
Looks great. Too bad the PCB is green. I think black would look much better.
They're pretty cool! Especially the weather one, what a great idea 💡 👏 😀
It's an ode to British weather not being that bad when not filming when it rains is an option. Love from Bergen.
I live in Los Angeles and just purchased the new York subway board from Train Trackr, I love devices like this. Next will be the London underground, thanks Geoff for all the wonderful videos!
My only worry is that the API is via TrainTrackr, and if they go out of business/shut down the servers..... expensive bit of plastic hanging about doing nothing.
With a simple screen, it will be magnificant
I really like the weather one, as it is quite useful, not only for train fans.
I've always wanted to get one of these here in the States! Nothing for my local area, but it looks like a great decorative piece!
I just got the New York one last year for Christmas. Thanks for the update!
I totally get the weather board, there are practical uses for it. And I also get the cleverness and ingenuity of the train boards. But am I missing something? Unless you live right by a tube station, what practical use are they. Or is it just that they look good?
Oh wow I should get one later in the future
Hope you well have a good day
Henry
what a cool project! And since the Tube Network Map maybe one of the most iconic ones, a nice Art Piece for Train Nerds around the World.
the only grip i have maybe the placementr of the powersource, one mounted on the Backside might be better so you don't have a cable sticking out at the side and it would be nice and flush and i wish a map for the Tram and S-Bahn Network for my Region would be viable, but well, don't everyone would also likes a Map from there home region?
There is actually an option to get power from the back of the board, with a small adapter.
@@richardhawthorn130 oh, perfect, then i have no issue with them :D
I find that other open source websites are better for the Network rail-owned sections as they provide even more precise data but the Traintrackr looks like a great all-around one.
I really like the idea of a live led train and tube map, but I’m put off by the green printed circuit board mounting, If they had a resemblance to the familiar pdf train map I’d be interested, I used to handle PCBs for customer equipment, the green circuit boards were kept enclosed away from dust and static, that what these train boards remind me of.
Got a nice combination there
You can see what time your train / tube is with a UK Departure Board then you can see where it is with a train tracker and then check on the train tracker weather map what it's like outside
Nice video
It bet there will be one for the Bakerloo Line extension. That does look pretty cool and the way you have explained it to us is what I would like to get. Nice.
This is fascinating! I love how easy the setup process is, the mini platform display boards with their complicated settings and subscription tiers honestly aren’t my cup of tea.
If they did one for the Manchester Metrolink, that would be awesome
Would love a Munich or Paris map! Would be an instant buy.
edit: also would be great to get a black or white pcb
Oh my gosh I’d love an Irish rail one of these
Brilliant! They need one for Melbourne, Australia!
Nice Upgrade Maps
Rumour has it that there's going to be a very expensive upgrade that allows you to *control* the trains, not just track them.
😂😂😂
Thank you for sharing this video Geoff that was very interesting and great information. ❤
You know what you need, Geoff, one of those train tracker gadgets of the Island Line, just in case you decide not to visit the Isle of Wight again. They could make it even better by including the steam trains too, just for fun. 😄🚅🚆
i think some kind of wrap or sticker, kinda like you get with laptop lids etc would be nice. in different styles. i get some people like the green pcb look but its not for everyone
Can we see them in the dark please?
Doesn't seem to comply with UKCA (The new CE), just an oversight?
Peeing it down across the majority of northern England. Standard April up here!
Train Tracker, would you be able to do Manchester Metrolink?
_"Battersea Power Station Station"_ now that's one I'm in agreement with.
I have an idea for black Northern Line LEDs: Order the white LEDs with a black plastic/shielding or paint them black, then have the default colour be white, turning the LED off where the train is.
Or if you have black permenant marker, you could draw a thin circle ⭕ around the LED's window to make it look black and colour the rest of the plastic in...
lol removed the copper on the top layer to show the river, cool.
Why is the weather one not called raintracker?
I just wish they did the PCB in different colours. Blue for the weather maps, amd white for the train lines.
It looks amazing!
Amazing. I didn’t even know this was a thing.
How on Earth, the fare between 2 zones ( zone 6 to zone 5) is so big? Heathrow T3 to Hayes & Harlington is £ 7.1...
That’s just so brilliant.
Hey Geoff ! Didn't you made a FAQ post recently ? I can't find it anymore
No overground?
How about the whole national rail network?
The Washington Metro one will keep breaking down, or major portions will be down for months at a time for 'upgrading,'
very very cool
What a cool idea. Does it work if I use it from France?
I ordered this one about a week ago, ironic that you make a video on it.
What a great map/ board!
@geoff ar you going to see the avanti trains
Nice toys!
So this does not in fact show everything. Waterloo has 4 sets of actual trains, right,? But there are only three display dots. There seems to be a line connecting Waterloo and Bank but no actual electronics. Or am I missing something?
W&C have 5 sets of 92 stock but there is an online map to see where they are as the Led maps are not that good
These are great, I have 5 of these and will get more as I save my pennies.
7:48 so I can see the section where there is track-sharing on the tube the LEDs light up for the correct line of the train. The Elizabeth line shares track with other services out east and west so does anyone know when a C2C train is at Stratford for example would it light up in purple or not at all (or on the Bakerloo west of Queen’s Park or Met north of Amersham)? Also where track is shared what would happen on the line diagrams?
The LEDs only light up for Elizabeth line trains.
@@richardhawthorn130 ah right thanks.
waiting for a paris vesion :)
Good Video Geoff
Nerdy, yet delicious
No bus coverage?? :)
These are so cool
It might look nicer/better with a diffuser on top
Can lights be changed ti color of the tube map for example red light is central line purple lights is Elizabeth line etc
On the large map the LEDs do take the colour of the line they are displaying.
Look and listen
I wanna buy a Bakerloo Line with TrainTrackr board
I have signal maps on my phone this has the elizabeth line on there in full but in sections as well as other lines in the UK railway network. I wonder if you can go in search for a class 345 with USB ports fitted then start your new tube map board and track it without getting lost in the core section then I can use my signal maps and do the same thing. Let's see which one is better. I would win this challenge.
Does it do LST and PAD high levels? \m/
I need one for the full uk rail network. I will pay ANY kind of money
I want a Waterloo and City line one
Plug in at weekends to minimise power usage
wow geoff this is brill
I don't like the green. Why isn't the tube map white?
Is the Victoria line the most frequently line
This video will have led the way for people to buy these cool devices.
Wow!! You're not wrong Geoff, this is borderline nerd porn .... and I'm not sure which side it falls on. I want one ... or more!
Of course, if they do one for the Brighton Mainline or West Coastway, it'll last longer, due to it only needing to work 5 days out of every 7!! 😏
Its a nod to harry beck, being based on a pcb, his original design was based on a radio circuit diagram, so it's come full circle! Pun intended!
good to have it
Barber I've haven't seen you here before?
@@joethebrowser2743 frequently watch but seldom comment on here,
No Black LEDs 😭
Mr Marshall that is so cleaver of you.❤❤
I have the MBTA one
*London Underground* Elizabeth Line???
❤
Kinda annoying that they need an account created to function.
They do look wonderful though!
Very C😎😎L Geoff 🙂🙂🚂🚂🚂
Mate. Close the curtains!
The colours don't come out well on your video (could have done with a differently exposed shot probably) but these are completely pointless and completely brilliant. I like the departure boards too and money no object, I'd have the lot!
I looks so cool but it quite expensive
👍🏻🇬🇧👀...
Is this sponsored?
Er. Its good for irrops.
Man googles - When is fathers day?
good job geof
fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
Didnt need a tracker to work out that tonights Northern Line southbound is badly in need of extra reiiable trains. Charing Xs not running to Morden is a joke really when the city branch is scheduled only for 10 tph or gets that , as the carriages and platforms build up, maybe Thursday is the new friday but underground was heaving.
as I nerd, I have 2 notes. 1: This would look AMAZING on a black PCB, and I wish they used that, or had it as an option instead of green.
2: I am disappointed that it requires an account to function. If that service goes offline, you now own a brick, and if it needs to be constantly connected to the site, should that site be compromised, now your home network is as well.
Interesting, although I'm not too keen on the idea of needing to send my network username and password to a website, to get a wifi device to work. I would rather only buy devices where I can configure them directly.
Yeh Victoria Line's gonna be the least bought one😂
Wh have another piece of hardware when it can be simulated in software and run on a tablet or laptop.
Well maybe that’s exactly the cool thing here… I’m sick of just having everything as a soulless application on my phone, I really enjoy the idea of these quirky retro boards.
Sup bro
£249 for it. Hard pass
Big PCBs are expensive to make.
