Hard Questions: 1. Am I as the the host up now liable for what other people are using my network for? (Could be seen as an accessory in some cases) 2. I can’t imagine internet providers have not already added clauses that would make this sorta use a breach of contract. 3. What are the security implications that are associated with opening up my network or using others ? Could I get the network host collect data from those who are using their network ?
To be clear I love the concept , reminds me of a Lora network device concept, but I think there are other big items that need to be made before this is a practical use .
You have the option to blacklist as many sites as you want and also can disable features like torrenting while people are connected to your network. Deeper's constantly adding to a global blacklist so that people won't be able to use your network for anything bad. You can also download the logs on your device if you want to prove anything. Since it's point-to-point encryption, when others utilize your network, they cannot see anything on your network at all.
1. Technically yes, but there are safety measures put in place to prevent this. 2. ISP has no way of determining if you're the one watching Netflix or someone in another country. 3. You will NOT be opening your network, the device only shares data outside your network. In fact it does the opposite, it creates more security by filtering out malicious attacks. WIN-WIN Let me know if you have any more questions.

As a hardware VPN and security device this could be really awesome but the DPR stuff and connected nodes kinda make it sketchy and security risk as well. You have potentially a device that is collecting data at home and sharing it with other nodes without you realising. I dun know. Maybe they should have started with baby steps.
With traditional VPN, your private info and browsing data is logged into a centralized server. With DPN, your data stays on your device which is its own server. Users have full control of their data with this device. That's why it was made in the first place.
I've been taking about the Deeper Network for months! I'm so glad to see this project reach the masses and really go mainstream. I won't stop sharing and helping people understand the pros and cons and how the Deeper Network WILL change the internet as you know it!
PRIVACY ALERT: This product, while innovative, raises plenty of questions without solid answers. If you connect to one of the nodes, it logs all traffic and because its open source, someone with a bit of technical knowledge can monitor your traffic (or all traffic connected to that node). You can also run network captures to potentially identify and monitor traffic. Deeper may have taken care about this to some extent, however, I would NEVER feel comfortable connecting to a node hosted by some random person. I would rather be happy to use centralized VPN services (with my own private encrypted DNS) who can be accountable or auditable - with Deeper, you cannot audit or verify any of the users hosting a node and that is a BIG concern for me. If I don’t want to use a centralized VPN, I will host my own VPN servers in the cloud - its really easy and cheap. These are just my thoughts, you are welcome to agree or disagree! :-) Peace \m/

His mesh of vpn tunnels sits ON TOP OF the network he claims has performance issues - which means any performance issues that underlying network experiences, his will experience at least as much. Is the salesman simply wrong about their product or is the product actually flawed as it is now? If so, could it be fixed easily or hardly? Paying once for the device and having the added bonus of making DPR on top of it, it's a no brainer. Take a look at their site and educate yourself about this project.
the reason netflix and other companies aren't cracking down on hardware VPNs is because they're less common so it makes less sense to invest money playing cat and mouse when so few people use it. As soon as they become more common, they will be in the same boat as VPNs
Or the existing users buy more devices, then in turn, fund them to tier 8 (basic), then pass the devices out, and share a portion of the miner rewards. Its very profitable, downside is all the private key storage with the ethereum wallets (staking), deeper wallets (mining), while using monero wallets for payments. In short more devices, more keys. Also the gas fees can be mitigated by first transferring the deeper to a main wallet on chain, then transferring to another blockchain (network). I run a decentralized vpn service.
So you can connect to this, download stuff illegally, get caught, and whoever had the device you're connected to will get in trouble for it? Why would you EVER let anyone access to your network knowing they can do what they want and you'll take the blame for them? This is incredibly sketchy.
this is exactly waht i thought, like u connect so someones vpn, u do smt dodgy, they trace it back to the random innocent persons "node"... and then imagine if ur that innocent person... like i REALLY want one... but this is my biggest concern

Maybe I get this wrong but in my understanding you connect to a VPN Server so that if someone tries to find you, they just end up on the VPN Server. So if I use a Hardware VPN, basically a server for me and me only, wouldn't it be possible to find me? I get that others can connect to your divide but if I don't want that, don't wanna be part of this ecosystem, just use it as a VPN for myself, isn't it less secure, then a traditional VPN?
If you’re connected to a node, they’ll find that node. Which might be an issue for you if somebody connects to your node and uses it to access illegal content.

As a security expert in training i find it hard to trust products when they dont disclose security features in an industry standard way. It honestly seems like they are confusing a 7 layer firewall to a layer 7 firewall, which is a big fuck up in terms of false advertising.
So basically its less reliable VPN because its peer to peer and no one want to log in to a VPN in China vs the USA. And its more of a hassle since its a hardware device you have to carry around and plug in rather than a simple software.
I'd say its the opposite since you have 100x more location options across the world compared to a centralized VPN and you don't have to pay monthly fee.
Whether it's this actual company or a group of others, this sounds like a new tech bubble not seen since the beginning of the internet. Wow, crypto, networking, and the internet all in one coming to a strong head. I'm hesitant and intrigued at the same time. I'm wondering how secure the peer to peer interactions are. I need to learn more about how that may work and what possible breaches may exist or not.
Your IPs appear masked on other nodes. Yet, these masked nodes protect you in case a bad actor uses your IP for malicious acts as it can prove it wasn't your IP which carried out nefarious acts. You can also create or upload blacklists for your IP and turn off BitTorrent! Also, as for the blacklist web filter, blacklist wildcard will be added to the next firmware update which will boost the blacklist performance.
Basically a hardware version of 'The Onion Router'. Hmmm not sure I'd want to connect to that, because if someone accesses dodgy content/sites through your node/network, then you could potentially get into trouble. Not sure how it actually works to avoid this sort of scenario.
This sounds like a huuge security risk. The same device that can access all of your web traffic and that does packet inspection is also connecting to an advertising network and injecting ads. That sounds like a nightmare for potential tracking for targeted ads in the future

Hard Questions:
1. Am I as the the host up now liable for what other people are using my network for? (Could be seen as an accessory in some cases)
WIN-WIN
Let me know if you have any more questions.
@@yafreakinway7375 After writing all that down, could you see all this as way too much trouble and risk to go through for the target audience of this device? Especially since the usefulness of VPNs for said target audience has pretty much dwindled to be of no use at all?
@@yafreakinway7375 Due to the mass of illegal sites on the Internet for the use of which one could be prosecuted, of course depending on what one does there, it is IMPOSSIBLE to keep this blacklist up to date. The only solution would be a whitelist.

I have the Mini just for the Vpn and don't mine DPR as the stake ROI required is not worth and better invested elsewhere. However I use it everyday and leave it active for the network users to benefit.

This seems highly unsafe and unethical. So you can connect to someone else's node and illegally download stuff on it, then they get in trouble for it? Why would anyone want that?
You have the option to blacklist as many sites as you want and also can disable features like torrenting while people are connected to your network. You can also download the logs on your device if you want to prove anything.
@@yafreakinway7375 Yeah that requires you to know the sites to blacklist in the first place. And downloading logs to prove anything is already too far, I'd rather not have to prove anything in the first place by not going to court. What a weak argument.
@@TheSonicFan4 also, if you don't want to 'prove anything', with a flick of a switch you can turn off that whole sharing bandwidth piece :)
I went to their website. Their support is AI. I just spent 20 minutes asking their AI support a simple question. It kept listing irrelevant articles and asking me to rephrase. Forget it
Please keep in mind that others will use your IP to go on the internet, and you dont know what others to on the internet. So im very curious to see what a court will say when you say: "but it wasnt me", when the judge asks you while someone else downloads illegal content using your IP. So i'll wait for the first court case before moving to DVPN. Which i would just host on a pi btw.
You have a log that you control!
@@jlmaster1 well that's your proof, which you can manipulate, vs the isp data, good luck with that.
If these became more common, that could be a valid defense ...
@@wayando that's why i'll wait a bit. ;)
Dude, any information coming and going through your modem is going to be encrypted in a way that it's impossible to decrypt for anyone. That's a must for this device.
I wouldn't want something so small sitting between my modem and router. That is precious pipe.
Get the mini if you want something more bulky :)
Background music is so annoying.
The disclaimer made me want to watch it even more
Deeper is a great project that will be around for a long, long time. I've made some videos on it that show how to do more of the advanced stuff in regards to the Cryptocurrency side of their products. This is a great video showing off the features of the Pico.
@@AtheistsClaw I'd love to hear your opinion on this
这一期嘉宾过于说得真好!😄
They are going to sell a sh*tload of those things

They've already sold a ton before the video and the network has been growing nicely for over a year now!
I felt like lou was trying to hint at the guy to move his mic back ever so slightly.... (I know I'm wrong they would likely just say) but it felt that way
Thanks for watching🔝🔝. Message right away I have something for you 🆙
Would love to see a review video for this or a follow up video 2-3 months later!

The music was very distracting. It was hard to hear your explanation.
Interesting product - curious to try it out.

Same doubt
If you’re connected to a node, they’ll find that node.
Which might be an issue for you if somebody connects to your node and uses it to access illegal content.
@@DisturbedNeo this is my fear. This alone is not worth the risk. It's not secure if someone can find out where you're going.
Same question I have
This whole thing is a big security joke. I started laughing uncontrollably as I can't believe people are so stupid to support this... Maybe it's time for me to quit IT people are becoming to silly for me. Hope everyone enjoys all the spam email going through their public IP.
I will watch this company with great interest.

Still one of the best tech reviewers.
As a security expert in training i find it hard to trust products when they dont disclose security features in an industry standard way. As far as im concerned a '7 layer firewall' means nothing without reference to what type of firewall it is and where it operates on the network stack. It honestly seems like they are confusing a 7 layer firewall to a layer 7 firewall, which is a big fuck up in terms of false advertising.
hey bro ... try to decrease the background music plz .... good video keep it up :D
Hey Justin, the device actually works to counter breaches. The sharing takes place at the internet level, your network is even more secure with it.
The sound for the video is screwed. The shots inside the white room are very subdued and can barely be heard !
Basically a hardware version of 'The Onion Router'. Hmmm not sure I'd want to connect to that, because if someone accesses dodgy content/sites through your node/network, then you could potentially get into trouble. Not sure how it actually works to avoid this sort of scenario.
Pico is only 100 Mbps. Wish it handled more bandwidth. The mini is too expensive.

This sounds like a huuge security risk. The same device that can access all of your web traffic and that does packet inspection is also connecting to an advertising network and injecting ads. That sounds like a nightmare for potential tracking for targeted ads in the future
Cant wait to see what their cut of the crypto will be. I bet its something crazy. As good as they make it sound, something seems fishy to me.
Syntropy also has a decentralized VPN. They are another crypto-related business that are focusing on revolutionizing the current internet infrastructure.
Think of the current internet as a paper map, no traffic info, outdated road names etc...
Syntropy are aiming to implement a sort of Google Maps for the internet - adding encryption, decentralization (looking at you AWS) and increasing effectiveness of packet routing.
Not for everyone but for people interested in new internet infrastructure development, it's pretty interesting.
Anyone allergic to crypto might want to avoid this post. I don't want to be liable for any damages caused due to allergic reactions ;)
