- Hi and welcome to episode 16 of my ES 335 guitar build series.
In this episode we take a major step towards completing the body by gluing the top on. With this done we will be rapidly approaching the point where we can start working on the neck of the guitar.
I hope you enjoy the video, if so please consider subscribing using the link below.

There’s that first time feeling “closing the box” as they say. It’s a huge accomplishment! And it looks fantastic.
Thanks Dane, really happy to have got this far. Bring on the binding :)
The closed box is a great milestone. Can’t wait to see your binding jig. Binding the 3 acoustics I’ve made always gives me the jitters
It is indeed, really feels like I'm getting somewhere now. I'm stressed about the binding!
What a beautiful looking top, well done. Like you say it gives the impression it will sound great. Can’t wait to see the progress
Thanks Jim, I'm really pleased with it and hopefully the top will really pop with some finish.
You must be very pleased with the great work you have achieved Patrick super build
Cheers John, I'm really happy with it so far :)
Wow, that looks great, good idea with the little nails too. This set of build videos is absolutely brilliant.
Thanks John, really glad that you are enjoying them :)
Fantastic job Patrick, it’s looking amazing!
Thanks Pete, very kind.
beautiful...just beautiful! if i were doing this build, i would be ecstatic with these results! i'm feeling like a "shed of dreams" groupie.
Thanks Rick, I should get some Shed of Dreams Groupie tee shirts done lol.
I see you're a skilled exponent with the magic finger brush getting better all the time as the fab four sang!👍😃
Thanks Bill, you can't beat a good old finger brush :)
Glorious, such a clean look to it!
Thanks Sean :)
If ever a beer had been urned, this must be one of those occasions. I might even have one or two to support your achievement!
Don't worry crossing this off the to-do list was celebrated :)
AWESOME
Cheers mate :)
Wonderful. It’s looking really fantastic. I’m a bit behind on this so I need to go back a few episodes but this is looking incredible
Thanks mate, I'm pleased with it :)
Looks bloody terrific mate!!
Thanks Andrew, I'm chuffed to say the least :)
Fantastic! It’s looking beautiful so far!!
Thanks Bryan, I'm chuffed with it :)
@@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams Properly so!!
DAAAAMN!!! Looking very good, indeed. I was wondering why you didn't just screw the top down where the pup and neck pocket will be, but as you said, splitting the top along the joint is a big worry. Very well done, sir.
Thanks mate, I had screws in the pickup areas as a backup plan but it all went together really well.
Looks great!
Thanks buddy :)
Looking good! Not that I would recommend it on something so important as this build but the sprinkle of salt on the glue really stops things slipping around during the clamping process. Looking forward to seeing your process with the binding, I have yet to try it…
Thanks buddy, the salt in the glue trick works well but I wanted to be double sure on this one. I'm dreading the binding a little bit but it has to be done!
I’ve made a couple of thinlines and that sound when you first tap the top when it is glued in place always gives me an immense feeling of satisfaction. Your tap test sounds like it's going to be amazing. Bravo.
I use very fine panel pins with the ends cut off when locating the top and fretboard , never needed to drill out the location for the tips, just firm pressure is enough to seat the pins.
I would have prefered a finer pin but couldn't find any. I only had to open the holes up a tiny bit but it worried me!!
6:34 the open time of the glue was rapidly expiring, and it was a very close caul, no pun intended.
Haha very nice, I would never have thought of that :)
we always wonder where those little pieces of nail fly when we cut them.. tend to find them years later.. excellent solution.. really looking for ward to the finish on this one.. i wonder where Jason Beam got that nice glue canister with the spout.. would be handy for this type of job.. How is the body thickness?? spec is approx 1.75".. but I understand early Gibson's in the 50's were thinner (1.06-1.65") and later they became a bit thicker.. each will be unique.. just curious where you are at currently before sanding..
Those nails could be anywhere in the inch of shaving on the floor lol. I'm at around the 1.75" mark. I've seen side by side comparisons between some years and the difference is huge!
Is episode 15 not available? I noticed the playlist skips from 14 to 16.
It was in there but for some reason it was after episode 41, I've fixed it up and it is in the right position. Thanks for letting me know there was an issue.
@@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams thanks for having such an entertaining build.
did i miss a video for the F-hole?
Hi, for some reason I can't get it to show in the playlist so here is a link....
