- "Toranaga looked up slowly.
A baed of sweat started at blackthorne's temple as everithink Rodrigues had toled him about samurai seemed to crystalize in this one man. He felt the sweat trickle down his cheek to his chin. He willed his blue eyes firm and unblinking, his face calm.
Toranaga's gaze was equally steady.
Blackthorne felt almost overwhelming power of the man reach out to him."
Jamess Clavell
"Shogun"
Richard Chamberlain said afterwards that everyone on set was in awe of Mifune. he would sit to one side, frowning, almost growling, and no-one dared go near him !
There will never be another like him..He had great strengh and character, and persona. He truly was Samurai.
The first time we see Toranaga on screen is one of the most epic reveals ever. His casual disregard for the gaijin, and Toshiro Mifune's piercing gaze still gives me chills up the spine.
Toranaga supposed to be Tokugawa Ieysau actually. But yet Toshiro Mifune actually looked like the real thing, he played in Midway in 1976 as Yamato. I really love to watch Shogun more than the Last Samurai. Shogun look like a movie that went back in time to 1600.
Not just Toranaga. Also a tribute to Toshiro Mifune, who brought him to life.
@0:18 that pet Hawk the Shogun was carrying was the Hayabusa 隼 "Peregrine Falcon", beautiful bird for a dignified Lord. Great music too ;-)
The great actor Toshiro Mifune as Lord Toranaga. He was brilliant in this role.Mifune was brilliant in so many roles including Admiral Yamamoto in Midway and Red Sun with Charles Bronson.
Red Sun was pretty cool. Way off the rails for Mifune, although he has acted in Japanese released movies that were somewhat satirical, but in the Japanese market.
I love Toshiro Mifune in all of his wonderful movies.
Agreed. The actor and the series captured that scene pretty well. The mini series still holds up pretty well today. Anyone who loves the novel should check out the book Learning from Shogun: Japanese History and Western Fantasy which is free on the web. Also, check out the wikipedia articles on the battle of Sekigahara and the siege(s) of Osaka Castle.
Thank you so much for this Shogun montage! I just love this movie. Toshiro Mifune was a great japanese actor and he will be greatly missed. Thanks again. :)
Toranaga is same as Tokugawa Ieyasu who grabbed the power in 1600 and shut down Japan in front of outlanders. This book is amazing. It's in my top 5 books ever.
Even fearless Blackthorne is totally dominated by Toranaga. :D
This is actually a series called Shogun, based off (and totally faithful to) the book of the same name.
The series isn't silent at all - it's got full dialogue. The above video trailer has had music added and the original sound track deleted.
It's an extremely good book/series.
I am currently reading the book for this now. It's such an outstanding book. James Clavell can definitely tell one Hell of a story. I plan on finding the mini series once I finish reading Shogun and then I'm reading Tai-Pan next.
The culture of this nation of East always fascinated me. And has been through this mini series that gave me hear a little of this nation. That has never been colonized by any imperialist power in Europe. I personally think self determination of peoples. Determining a point in human coexistence
Thank you for posting this video! I've always admired and honor the culture and history of Japan, when it was published Shogun eagerly read the book and, although it was many years ago I reread it several times, is fascinating. The TV series was ideal for the book, and Yoko Shimada impeccable, Mariko-san sorry that she had a tragic destiny ... the codes of the Samurai warrior culture
Toshiro Mifune ❤️
Loved Toranga& Lady Toda.
Only one in Sho gun I, did
not like we're the priest.
I, am more holy than they.
They were greedy, self Righteous,
and murdered pp. they saw as a threat!!!!
Now Anjisan, you will see how a REAL Samurai dies.
Spoiler/fun fact:
The story of the first brittish sailor to reach the shores of Japan, was accused of being a pirat and heretic by his enemies (the portugese/spanish Jesuit priests who had been there for several years already) and who wanted him cruixified. He ended up being the Shogun's personal advisor, samurai/hatamoto and foreign minister.
Mostly based on a true story, the life of the brittish sailor William Adams. (Google it if you want)
Yes the book is great, the movie is ok. :-)
Domo Toranaga Sama!
como hago para ver toda la serie
I love Toranaga. He is the single most magnificent bastard to have ever existed in fiction, and even though the series was very good, you really need the book to understand just how brilliant he is.
Also, who thinks the look he gives Blackthorne at 0:16 is the best "you REALLY do not want to screw with me" look you'll ever see?
Infatti Tokugawa è stato un grande shogun
" the Portuguese were indeed the first Europeans influencing Japan "
Spain soon after was in Japan, headed by Francisco Javier, and also you remembers Hasekura Tsunenaga's trip to Spain with all his retinue, to interview with the Spanish king Felipe III
Banzai, Toranaga-san!
+Rainier7777 You want to die to for Toranaga-san? That's basically what you said.
+7r3x1992 Actually, what I said was Hurrah!, Toranaga-sama!
You should have included the scene of Toranaga and Blackorne dancing a hornpipe (Sailor's dance).
Amazing video! the song sounds so good it goes well with the clips! :D Toranaga is an incredible person, not only as a samurai but anyway...
The book is fantastic, i love it very much... i woud like to watch the movie, i haven't seen it yet...
kikuchiyo was great on this show
Shogun is my favourite book of all times 📖 Can you tell me how Toranaga is written in Japanese language?
The name of the song is "The Mass", by bend Era.
WRRAMUADAMUSU🇬🇧
I like the guy in the prison scene who started to vomit. I had a friend who did a perfect impersonation of him,
Torenaga Sama!!!!
Toshiro Mifune was the best actor in this series followed by Damien Thomas
....and Yoko Shimada the most beautiful!
@@swampula Amen!
Konitiwa Toranaga Sama!
Thankyou for your comment. This is my favoutite AMV, so I'm verry glead that you like it.
congratulatios....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ::)
I might be mixing things up, but isn't there one scene in this series, where someone says something and Toranaga (Mifune) kind of smirks, then starts to laugh a little, then just let's it escalate bit by bit until he just loses his s*** and laughs out loud? I'd love to find that bit, I think it was from this show.
+brottarnacke That would be the first time they meet where they talk about victory being the one extenuating circumstance.
IamTenzin Thanks.
Carmina Burana. Nice.
@WhatzUpPeople I hear you man, im 15 and I am halfway through it
If Uou do it I would be VERRY GRATEFUL.
Uaoooo
l love richard from argentina💝😍😘💝😍😘💝😍😘💝😍😘💝😍😘💝😍😘💝😍😘❤❤❤
In the book, the war is never revealed. I mean narrated.
Thinking back on it there *was* a movie but it wasn't as good as the series in many peoples opinions.
Can someone tell me what is the song in this clip?
"The Mass" by Era
It's "The Mass" by Era
Świetny montaż z ciekawym podkładem, chociaż o ile mógłbym wyrazić swoje zdanie to mogłaś bardziej zaakcentować wątek narastającej więzi i wzajemnego szacunku pomiędzy Blackthornem a Toranagą.
what is that song if you know please message back
(mine was a replay for neuromatrix8 if it wasnt evident
Don't fuck with Toranaga.
Yoshi Torenaga, Lord of the Quanto!

Wahh... the soundtrack shamelessly copied Orff (Carmina Burana). Maybe it's done on purpose?
how does this have 70k views. how did i get here

So irritating, the stupid music. One of the key figures of Toranaga is his voice and tone, and you just cut that out for some Carmina Burana?
wow... u realy dont seem to know much about ether japanese american OR russian history... your statment had so many things wrong with it there is nit enugh space here to detail... lets just begin by the fast that you missed the time period by about 200 years or so and part as friends :) try not to comment about things you dont know much about
