Kingler Master Those are okay. N64 Luigi Raceway is the ultimate worst retro track in the game. It is very long and boring. Probably the worst Circuit track ever in MK history.
Seeing the DS ones brought so many memories back...but man I remembered it looking a lot nicer than that. Funny how your kid brain kind of smooths over the edges of crunchier-looking games/animations
Cheese Land from Super Circuit is supposed to be like a Moon made of cheese with a starry sky. They didn't get it at all for MK8. The rest is amazing tho.
It still looks a whole lot better. So what if they decided to change it? Honestly though, it's beautiful how much depth Nintendo put into these previously flat tracks for Mario Kart 8.
Some of the retro tracks based off of SNES and other older titles are a little too “new.” It just feels like they made a whole new track and gave it the old name. I like all of the retro courses in Mario Kart 7 and they’re all I pick, but in Mario Kart 8 I would likely only pick the SNES rainbow road. It feels the least changed, and no Mario kart track is bad, but I don’t like the amount of changes. It was nice to get gliders for tracks like Coconut mall, but it felt like it belonged. I don’t wanna go upside down on a retro track unless I really screw up and decide to force myself
CATSANDAXES Donut Plains can be picked. You're probably talking about Cheese Land and Ribbon Road from the GBA. Thing is, it's a good thing to remake the entire track completely, because there is absolutely no point in making half of each game the exact same tracks they already have years ago. I think it's a good thing for players of Super Circuit to be able to enjoy a completely new version of their favourite courses
As an adult gamer who has played every single Mario Kart game in the series, having played their first entry when they were just four years old, I honestly really liked the idea of the old tracks being completely remade. Nostalgia is fun and all (which I feel these tracks still deliver), but a lot of the really old tracks were clearly held back by system limitations. Yoshi Valley was my absolute favorite MK64 track, but I can't say that I would have preferred the completely flat roads of the original over the improvements made to it in MK8 that make it both feel and look more natural. Besides, I feel that it just adds more value to MK8. If I want to play the old courses exactly the way they were before with absolutely no differences, then I'll simply choose to play the older Mario Kart games (which, I still do). With them being changed in MK8, it honestly just makes the game feel that much bigger by offering what truly feels like something new, rather than the exact same thing I've already raced on countless times but with a more polished look. A nostalgia track that keeps all the flaws of the original loses its value over time, but a nostalgia track that brings the track up to the current standard never loses its value, it simply fits right in with the rest of the new tracks presented in the game. You just have to appreciate the track as a track, rather than trying to appreciate the track as merely being a trip down memory lane.
I’ve only played MarioKart DS and 8 Deluxe. I had a N64, Gameboy, Wii, and 3DS. But my mom never got me MarioKart for those ones. So the retro tracks were all I had to go off of. But looking back at what they actually looked like at their time really amazes my mind on how improved Nintendo made them. Like Cheeslabd and Ribbon Road? Those are the MOST improved imo. I love the amount of detail they have too.
you should go back and redo your Rainbow Road 64 comparison with it's Mario Kart 8. 1 lap on the Mario Kart 8 is not 1 lap on the 64 original. What they did was take 1 lap on the Rainbow Road 64 version and turned it into 3 to go completely around the Rainbow Road on the Mario Kart 8 version of Rainbow Road 64. As a result the ratio of lap on the new version is 3/1. 3 laps on Mario Kart 8 and 1 lap on the N64
Bring back wheely and funky Kong! Or any of the other racers... like seriously? Gold peach and metal Mario? Why not replace them with I don’t know bowser jr. and diddy Kong? Why do we have to have duplicates?
Mr AuraGaming wheelies were removed because they made bikes overpowered. and bowser jr is in mk8d. but I do agree that characters like tanooki mario and cat peach could have just been variants of the original characters :/
The transition of the tracks from the original to 8DX shows its head when you can tell that most levels were redone to benefit the new abilities of the karts, like the usage of anti-gravity, gliding and water driving, and its amazingly arranged and much more authentic sounding OST with real instruments and decently used synth (And hot damn! The Waluigi Pinball/Wario Circuit theme has never sounded any better after the original and the countless online remixes), and don't get me wrong, the original music's great (Soyo Oka's Super Mario Kart tracks are quite charming and one of my favorite SNES OSTs ever, same can be said about other games in the saga with the quality of the tracks), but the added benefits with sound quality, the synthesis, instruments and experimentation with each arrangement are stand-out points that show the improvement And let's not forget the aesthetics of each track, they're much more polished and quite modern feeling (Like Rainbow Road, for example), or are given a complete visual overhaul to match the redone level design (Like in Ribbon Park), and in the end, it really comes to show the time and experience that they went to make each track fit mechanically and visually to show how far the series has gone as of now. And I show no nostalgic bias towards it, it's decent for every game, and I find them all good besides having their own flaws and weaknesses.
Speaking of flaws, each game has their own, and I wanted to point them out just to avoid all of the nostalgic peeps that roam around the comment sections that specialize about game comparisons... This is only the 1st part of 2 comments that highlight the problems that each portable and console MK game possess. And... *Begin!* Super Mario Kart- The odd control scheme and steering mechanics compared to the later games, the rubber-band AI (Which plague other games of this sort and the series, but to me, in this specific game, it just bites my ass) the CPU only items that are only there to hinder your single player progress and tacked-on use of the Super Feather, only there for some (In my eyes, sometimes tacked-on) shortcuts, and rare moments in where you can actually dodge attacks and go above other racers Mario Kart 64- Improved mechanics, but still problematic because of the bugs and (Easy to exploit, once accidentally found) dumbass shortcuts. Super Circut- Unique level designs and music because of having Paper Mario, Panel de Pon and Fire Emblem devs Intelligent Systems, but doesn't benefit because of the steep difficulty curve that might even throw off veterans of the series (Specially with the damn controls being tougher than most, fucking power-slides are a chore sometimes, but now I'm just nitpicking at this point of time), and how mundane it is to get to 1st AND get a lotta coins to unlock the SNES tracks, which is redundant for most (Specially when you're spoiled and used to how Mario Kart 64 worked) Double Dash- Barely as buggy as 64 and has a great team mechanic, that sadly made no kinda return, but enough gushing and memories of my days when I was a dumb 5 year-old back in 2008, the flaws are the bland settings for some levels and their music, and kinda boring battle mode levels that make the great ideas for modes, feel like trash. There may be some flaws that we can agree on, some minor nitpicks of mine that might anger some, but this is only the beginning of a load of bullshit coming out of a lazy idiot's mouth. *On the fucking Internet*
*coughcough* Wario's Gold Mine actually had cooler mine music in Wii *cough cough* But yeah, Wii's flaws are FUNKY KONG and the wheelies. Just... those two damned combos everyone sees online... 7 actually was more chaos that Wii for me. Blue and Red shells everywhere. Also Maple Treeway's nonexistent wavy bridge. 8... dang... the antigrav gimmick is used a lot. 7 didn't do that with gliders but I guess Wii did it with tricks.
@@MidnightCapricorn2696 1. warios gold mine music is better in the Mario kart 8 version than wiis 2. Would you really prefer a wavy bridge over a gliding section? 3. The anti gravity sections are good, all of the gimmicks are usually quite fun Plus it's the first (maybe only) game to have it so they're gonna wanna take the opportunity to use it.
People ignore that entry over MK8D because it was in a failure of a console. It isn't ignored because it's a bad game, it's just the inferior version in the inferior console.
I don't mean to come off as harsh. MK8 is probably my favorite entry in the series, and that's saying something. It's just that MK8D iterated on so many cool things and 200CC is absolutely nuts.
I love the retro courses and their remakes, but wish we had an option to play the original music. I grew tired of the saxophone very quickly and, well not all of the remixes use it, most of them do.
Donut Plains 3: A hard track made easy? Well at least it's not as boring as previous SNES retro track remakes. Rainbow Road (SNES): A track that refuses to die. Well at least in my eyes, this is the best remake. Toad's Turnpike: I like the attention to detail behind this remake. Too bad the challenge of the original is now lost. Royal Raceway: As much as it sucks that they sealed off the road to Peach's castle, what they've done with the track is absolutely stunning! Yoshi Valley: It looks like an actual valley, the alternate routes are well balanced and you can now see what position you're currently in at all times? Simply amazing! Rainbow Road (N64): This track went from long and boring, to interesting but over too quickly. Would've been better if it was a 2 lap race instead. Mario Circuit (GBA): I like the addition of an anti-gravity U-turn held up by ultra hands, but there isn't much else that makes this stand out. Still an improvement to GBA track remakes prior! Cheese Land: This track looks amazing! It's a shame they changed it from a cheese moon to a cheese desert, but it's still a blast to race on! Ribbon Road: Not sure what to think about the surf themed cover of the track's theme, but the rest of it has gone above and beyond as an imaginative remake! Dry Dry Desert: I never understood why they remove the sandstorms and added an underwater section. Isn't it supposed to be called: Dry Dry Desert? Sherbet Land: Definitely less frustrating than the original and more fun to race in. The underwater sections are a nice addition. Yoshi Circuit: Nice to see a remake that's more faithful to the original. Baby Park: Again, a more faithful remake than the DS one. Glad to see both get the treatment they deserve! Cheep Cheep Beach: In my opinion, this track isn't that bad. And its inclusion in Mario Kart 8 was rather welcome. Wario Stadium: This is actually a very enjoyable remake of the original on DS. It manages to make up for the lack of a Wario Colosseum remake! Tick-Tock Clock: Another remake that goes above and beyond. And I'm happy to see that, as it makes an already great track even better! Moo Moo Meadows: Not much different to the original, but as a starter track it'll do. Grumble Volcano: The music somehow fits this look of the track even better than it did on Wii. Wario's Gold Mine: Pretty good, even if it feels easier in comparison. It's no longer difficult to get to that shortcut in the remake however. DK Jungle: They didn't change much. But at the same time, they didn't need to. It was already a great track to begin with! Melody Motorway: It's the same, but that's not a bad thing. I actually think the orchestrated cover sounds better in my opinion. Piranha Plant Pipeway: It feels harder in this version somehow. So I guess putting it in the Lightning Cup was justified. Koopa City: An underrated track. Good to see it make it in as DLC!
No, I prefer a lot of the originals more. Ribbon Road, hm, cool, but not that great. Wario's Gold Mine, WTF DID YOU DO TO THE MUSIC? SHY GUYS??? It's not SHY GUY MINE! Tbh the only ones I kinda like are Donut Plains 3 and Grumble Volcano.
But if you've played all the games up to 8, they'd feel more like lazy filler if they were all just direct ports. The new stuff helps them feel fresh, while still being nostalgic.
I love how they had to speed up the N64 footage of Rainbow Road to keep up with the MK 8 version. Really goes to show that the N64 version was too long and the MK 8 version is too short XD
They made it anti-grav because it made sense in the context of the game's mechanics, probably not because of difficulty. I don't think making it easier makes it a worse track, it just means you have to be that much better if you can't rely/expect your opponent to be dicked by bats or carts. It's still a really good track. I'm happy they cut all the weird jumpy sections from Wii, those were almost always garbage and unnecessary.
MayhemMessiah Well yeah the bats were annoying, but the mine carts is what made the track exciting. Plus, what they did with in 8 was just unnecessary. They didn't even try to tilt it its still the same.
I'm glad they didn't tilt the track because it didn't need it at all. I always want to fight and race the other players, never fight the track. Dumb track gimmicks makes worse MK tracks, not better. Smart challenging tracks have tricky lines, tight corners, and strategic edge drops. Train Carts wizing is hardly interesting and the track is more solid without them or the bats.
@@tripleg6232 They'll possibly do that I believe although they missed a few chances of remaking some tracks in MK8 - Figure-8 Circuit from MKDS would have been perfectly fitting the "8" theme. But nevertheless, I believe we also will be blessed with the Double Mode as an option and ALL tracks per DLC or whatever.
I think they should've used an SNES Bowser Castle instead of SNES rainbow road again! 2:45 the N64 version looks bland! (same with Toad's turnpike and Yoshi Valley) 4:21 I like the N64 version a little better because it's 100% fenced! 6:30 I like how the MK8 version is inside a bedroom, the racers are toy size, and there's plenty of easter eggs! 10:16 so the MK8 version has 7 laps, not 5! 13:00 moo moo meadows is my favorite course in both games! 14:14 most of the courses with lava in Mkwii make me think of pizza! 16:38 so in MK8, the shortcut is entered on a ledge!
That fence isn't all that helpful. Sure, it keeps you from falling off the track, but that takes much of the challenge out of Rainbow Road. Instead, we get a few Chomps that inexplicably swim through the track and awful rubber banding. Baby Park only has 5 laps on the DS.
MK8/D handsdown got the most polished gameplay of any MK title in history, no competition. No other MK has ever felt as fluid as MK8/D. Anyone else saying that the older titles are better are nostalgia-blinded
VoicelessBeats maybe because the things that the other mario karts have is competition. mario kart 8 is literally so easy and they made the tracks easier for people which doesnt make it as fun as the older games. no hate towards your opinion tho
@@liatwintelle I agree. I like MKW and MK7 as a challenge. Even if people hate 7 for getting 3 of my favouite tracks, no MK game has claimed the fourth favourite track of mine. Plus, MK8 looks too easy, and they ruined Wario's Gold Mine in music. The techno part of the insice music is gone.

I've played Mario Kart 8's original Wii U version and I plan on playing the deluxe Edition and the only thing that was a letdown was Nintendo screwing with the formula by replacing a retro Bowser's Castle track with Grumble Volcano. At least they redeemed themselves by having Neo Bowser City as a DLC track.
@@SuperDupTNT I'm guessing the 3DS Bowser's castle track since even after one appearance it became a retro track but in my experience almost all Mario Kart games have always had two Bowser's Castle tracks a new one and a retro one.
Also in Smash they can die in water. Hey, Smas at least keeps most things canon (except a major flaw that got taken out because it would have hindered Dark Pit, so that makes sense)
The ones you missed: Mario Kart: Super Circuit Version of Donut Plains 3 Mario Kart: Super Circuit Version of SNES Rainbow Road Mario Kart DS Version of Baby Park Mario Kart DS Version of Yoshi Circuit Mario Kart 7 Version of SNES Rainbow Road
Omg why is everyone hating retro tracks look these days don't just complain on RUclips go to gamestop and buy. Wii simple plus those graphics are horible
N64 rainbow road was not a fair comparison 1: the n64 track is sped up 2: you cut out 2 laps, but take into consideration that when you complete the course in mk8/deluxe, you will be on lap 2 on n64 so he cut out most of the track

Cheese Land from Super Circuit is supposed to be like a Moon made of cheese with a starry sky. They didn't get it at all for MK8. The rest is amazing tho.
the course is thematically completely different, but it still looks cool (and i still suck at it)
It still looks a whole lot better. So what if they decided to change it?
Honestly though, it's beautiful how much depth Nintendo put into these previously flat tracks for Mario Kart 8.
JDen And same with Ribbon Road, they completely revamped that track.
It surprises me that they didn’t try to turn of the parts of SNES Rainbow Road into walls for antigravity though.
@@staradiablaster1737 lol
That's sad
you should go back and redo your Rainbow Road 64 comparison with it's Mario Kart 8. 1 lap on the Mario Kart 8 is not 1 lap on the 64 original.
They're not laps, but sections. They did this in 7 with the long tracks, one of which was its own Rainbow Road.

You like moo moo meadows theme right? xD
Yep🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄
N64 rainbow road got a huge overhaul.
The Waluigi Pinball/Wario Circuit theme has never sounded any better after the original and the countless online remixes), and don't get me wrong, the original music's great (Soyo Oka's Super Mario Kart tracks are quite charming and one of my favorite SNES OSTs ever, same can be said about other games in the saga with the quality of the tracks), but the added benefits with sound quality, the synthesis, instruments and experimentation with each arrangement are stand-out points that show the improvement
And let's not forget the aesthetics of each track, they're much more polished and quite modern feeling (Like Rainbow Road, for example), or are given a complete visual overhaul to match the redone level design (Like in Ribbon Park), and in the end, it really comes to show the time and experience that they went to make each track fit mechanically and visually to show how far the series has gone as of now.
And...
*Begin!*
Super Mario Kart- The odd control scheme and steering mechanics compared to the later games, the rubber-band AI (Which plague other games of this sort and the series, but to me, in this specific game, it just bites my ass) the CPU only items that are only there to hinder your single player progress and tacked-on use of the Super Feather, only there for some (In my eyes, sometimes tacked-on) shortcuts, and rare moments in where you can actually dodge attacks and go above other racers
Mario Kart 64- Improved mechanics, but still problematic because of the bugs and (Easy to exploit, once accidentally found) dumbass shortcuts.
Super Circut- Unique level designs and music because of having Paper Mario, Panel de Pon and Fire Emblem devs Intelligent Systems, but doesn't benefit because of the steep difficulty curve that might even throw off veterans of the series (Specially with the damn controls being tougher than most, fucking power-slides are a chore sometimes, but now I'm just nitpicking at this point of time), and how mundane it is to get to 1st AND get a lotta coins to unlock the SNES tracks, which is redundant for most (Specially when you're spoiled and used to how Mario Kart 64 worked)
Double Dash- Barely as buggy as 64 and has a great team mechanic, that sadly made no kinda return, but enough gushing and memories of my days when I was a dumb 5 year-old back in 2008, the flaws are the bland settings for some levels and their music, and kinda boring battle mode levels that make the great ideas for modes, feel like trash.
There may be some flaws that we can agree on, some minor nitpicks of mine that might anger some, but this is only the beginning of a load of bullshit coming out of a lazy idiot's mouth. *On the fucking Internet*
*coughcough* Wario's Gold Mine actually had cooler mine music in Wii *cough cough*
But yeah, Wii's flaws are FUNKY KONG and the wheelies. Just... those two damned combos everyone sees online...
7 actually was more chaos that Wii for me. Blue and Red shells everywhere. Also Maple Treeway's nonexistent wavy bridge.
8... dang... the antigrav gimmick is used a lot. 7 didn't do that with gliders but I guess Wii did it with tricks.
@@MidnightCapricorn2696 1. warios gold mine music is better in the Mario kart 8 version than wiis
2. Would you really prefer a wavy bridge over a gliding section?
3. The anti gravity sections are good, all of the gimmicks are usually quite fun
Plus it's the first (maybe only) game to have it so they're gonna wanna take the opportunity to use it.
i feel like everyone ignores the freacking wii u mario kart 8 edition.
Because the Wii U was a monumental failure in terms of sales, so most people never bought it.
People ignore that entry over MK8D because it was in a failure of a console. It isn't ignored because it's a bad game, it's just the inferior version in the inferior console.
I don't mean to come off as harsh. MK8 is probably my favorite entry in the series, and that's saying something. It's just that MK8D iterated on so many cool things and 200CC is absolutely nuts.
because for the DLC content
and no battle courses
I want the next mario kart game wii Retros to be
1- Moonview Highway
2- Maple Treeway
3- Toad's Factory

It is though

Still upset on how they pretty much ruined Wii Wario's Gold Mine.
Well, they didn't completely ruin the track. They just made the minecart section a lot easier, that's all.
Master Penguin That's why it's ruined. They made it anti-gravity because too many people keep whining on how it was "too hard"
